I learned "Cuckoo" (Coo Coo) from George R. Gibson of Knott County, Kentucky. My instrument is an 1880s Lyon & Healy #banjo tuned ~ gDGCD. This video was filmed, by me, in my father's living room in South Carolina during 2010 or 2011.

young clifton damn
I love how this young man creates the mood and scene before singing his heart out. True classic musician! Makes me travel to another time and place...MT
I saw the thumbnail and knew it was a younger Clifton!
This one sure does jog the memory muscle.
The recording of this on your New York album, definitely a strong rendition. I definitely nominate this song to be one of your next lessons if you haven't done it already. How you manage to play it for 6 to 7 I think maybe even 8 minutes depending on how you round things up is amazing for a banjo player especially with no accompiment on the side.
Not use to hearing you play steel strings. I've gotten use to hearing the fuller deeper tone of your nylon strings which I definitely prefer. Can't get enough of that classic tone.
What a rare treat!!! Ear candy that refreshes the soul.
Tapping your foot so hard it's bouncing the camera. Rhythm baby, rhythm!
Heck yeah!
100% Excellent!!!
LIKE A TRAIN ROLLING DOWN THE TRACKS. EXCELLENT
Big Love from Avery co NC.
My grandfather loved bluegrass. I miss him
Bluegrass is okay, this is better. This is more like old timey. Bluegrass is like hopped up old timey. I prefer this, bluegrass is just too fast for me.
Love it.
Thanks Clif.
Some say Craw Daddy.
I say Coor Daddy!
😃
Sick! The video of you playing this outside in KGB shirt is my favorite version of you playing this. Definitely a banger
Love this rhythm !! Just slapping the sh*t out out of my knee, young lad !! My Lord ,young man ,that's some f*cking good rhythm !!!!
Such an exceptional performance! I sure did enjoy this superb playing! Peace, Charles
Worth a million manufactured,voice-coded,overproduced, saccharine rubbish that gets played on the radio these days!
Tearing it up!
I've always sawmill tuning and this song.
Man, I wanna learn to play like that.
I love this. Glad you popped up. I subscribed. 😍
Wow 🤩. Fantastic thanks 🙏🏻
Love love love it!! Tomorrow’s tune for sure
Big breakup energy. Angry blues.
Truly wonderful Clif.
sweet job
Great, excellent job! I love your version of it!
What’s up with the guitar right next to you?
Austrian parlor guitar circa 1900. I traded it many years ago.
@@CliftonHicksbanjo thank you for the info.
🙂💖
Great job man! 👏
BTW, listen to the version done by Kaleidoscope on their third album The Incredible Kaleidoscope. 🎶👍
One of my favourites, and done as it should be 💪🤔🗣️🆘🇬🇧🧐✌️
Yes mate the real feel is a real deal😏🤩🤑
Cheers from LONDON 💯🇬🇧
I agree ,also listen to Rory Gallaghers version , he takes it to another level .
@@christospollakis7358 Got a link? Whats he call his version?
One of the best version of this song . Also check Rory Gallaghers version
I always think indian war hoop would make a good follow up song after this one, or holcombs moonshiner with banjo, not accapella.
Christ almighty, sounds like 3 different instruments
Isn't that wagoners lad? Or has billy strings confused us all?
What are the lyrics my man it kills me not to sing along
Meant to say thank you it came out wrong
@@fasted8468well, they are pretty easy to hear. They used to learn all the songs without googling the lyrics, it can be done.
Bang on !! Right on !! Let's get it on !! Jumping Jesus Christ, this will get ya feeling fine !!!
