Thanks Blaine for that excellent lesson. I've got the jig part down now, I broke it into several phrases and then put them down on paper in order. It's pretty much just repeating those phrases in slightly different orders. Like you, I absolutely loved that Blind Boy (Jerron) Paxton version, it's truly an incredible piece of banjo playing...
Your teaching ability is second to none. I'm just starting out on banjo and this and old blue are my two favourite banjo songs and to know that I will eventually able to play it due to your tutorials brings me so much happiness and I am forever grateful, thankyou!
My compliments for working through this song and figuring out the techniques. Jerron's playing is so fast at first glance that it is truly flabbergasting. What "style" would you consider this song to be in (minstrel, clawhammer, etc)?
The first portion, the jig, is stroke or minstrel style. That tune is actually called Bully for You. The Lorena portion, I play overhand, while jerron continues in stroke style
@@blainechappell5383 that makes sense. And it reminds me I ordered some Aquila nylgut strings a while back and haven't got them yet. I gotta look into that. Thanks
Hey Blaine any chance you would go over Jerrons version of Old Blue. He played it at the same Ark show he played No more Moon shine on Lorena. I’ve seen Clifton has an old blue video and I’ve seen a few other peoples renditions but none play it like Jerron, at least to my ears. And I’m not skilled enough on banjo to pick up exactly what he’s doing. Anyway love this video never thought I could play no more moonshine like jerron but you did it lol. Thanks!
Believe it or not, I'm working on that. I'm currently learning from the Frank Converse Banjo without a Master book from 1865, and it's giving more insight into how jerron plays these songs. I've got the very basics of Old Blue down, but it needs a lot of work. In due time, I'll have something up.
If you have a tuner it will help you out. But I can explain it this way. 1st string 5th fret should sound the same as the 5th string 2nd string 3rd fret should sound the same as the 1st strings open 3rd string 4th fret = 2nd string open 4th string 7th fret = 3rd string open
Jerrons recording of this song is why I bought a banjo. Thank you for this.

I'm quite flattered. Thanks very much
This song is so rhythmic. I love it. Thanks banjo bestie.
Found it! Many thanks ... what a resource
This is a tough one for me! Even with all the help , thanks blaine I’ll get it eventually
Thanks man this is awesome.

Just so that you know, the Irish Jig is called: Leg of Duck.
Hi Blaine thanks for this video I love this old song :-) Sorry I hadn't subscribed before now, my bad! I'll see you on Cliff's discord buddy!
Any chance for sheet music or tab in the future?
I’m not sure. If I do, I’ll let you know.
@@blainechappell5383 I just recently started to mess around in drop C tuning it's been really fun
Do you have a tab available for this?
I don't. I think clifton hicks did a tab for this, but in Double C
That was cool. Are those the normal Labella no.17 strings? They look so fat in the video.
Those are Aquila Nylgut Minstrel strings

Yes! I’m so stoked! Paxton’s version is incredible!
@@makeeverydaycinematic it's gonna be awhile. His intricacies are so far above my abilities right now, I can't even affectively fake my way through it
Hey Wyatt, I think I've finally worked out something similar to the way jerron plays it
Its time for a drop 😅@blainechappell5383
Hey, Blake. I just can’t figure out that tuning. I tried it both ways you described in the video. Could you go into more detail?
If you have a tuner it will help you out.
But I can explain it this way.
1st string 5th fret should sound the same as the 5th string
2nd string 3rd fret should sound the same as the 1st strings open
3rd string 4th fret = 2nd string open
4th string 7th fret = 3rd string open
c#7435 its standard g tuning with the 4th dropped to the 7th fret.
What's the banjo brand? Boucher?
this one is a Terry Bell reproduction Boucher. Clif now owns it
@@blainechappell5383 badass
Old dog blues!! Please my bredda
People would pay good for this instruction you know
I barely have time to put something on youtube, lol. I'm happy to share for free, online
