Claudia is a friend of mine from Mexico, and you may have seen her teaching Spanish classes on iTalki as well. She has a unique experience being a Mexican living in Canada, and I was very interested to hear her takes on how the two countries are similar and different. I hope our conversation is not only entertaining, but that it can also help you get some experience listening to an intermediate conversation in Mexican Spanish.
Thank you for watching, you're awesome :) New videos every Saturday.
👋 Hola, I'm Nate. I used to not know any Spanish at all, and I had no interest in learning the language. I thought learning Spanish would be boring, a waste of time, and would provide no value to my life. Then I started taking Spanish classes in high school and everything changed for me. I struggled with learning the language a lot at first, but thanks to my teachers and my Spanish speaking friends, they helped make the learning process fun. Within a few months, I had gotten to a conversational level, but more important, I had become a more confident person. The real win for me, though, was the friendships I made and strengthened. I discovered that not only did I have higher self esteem, but being out in the real world with people, whether old friends or new ones I met, made me feel more alive and connected with the world around me. Now it's my goal to create videos that make you smile and inspire you to learn Spanish or another language!

Hola Nate!

Ever since I was little Ive admired Mexican Spanish. Most people who dont understand spanish dont know there is a big difference between Mexican spanish and other forms of spanish say from spain or other countries and I always wanted to speak Mexican spanish. From the clarity of their pronounciaton to the beauty of their words Mexicans speak beautifully and I dream of one day speaking like them. I try my best, I travel often to Mexico and I try to imitate the way they speak and this video is very helpful! Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼

I loved this! It left me with two follow up questions regarding the "Intermediate Practice" idea. First, how slow would you say were speaking compared the way you normally would? 70%? 80%? Also, let's say we could understand the majority of the conversation, but we couldn't *respond* in the same way that you two were with each other. Things like not properly using subjunctive, confusing past preterite with imperfect, or simply not being able to think of some of the words. Would those things put someone below what you consider to be an intermediate level?

When I put on closed captioning it stayed in Spanish. It would be great if you had subtitles in English...

Not sure if you know, but you can get English captions with the 'subtitles' and then 'auto translate' option by clicking the little wheel to the right of the CC symbol on the bottom of the screen.
