- THE RED RUN HAS STARTED! Fishing Bolivar/Galveston East Bay for big redfish.
Took a new fishing buddy out that I met from the Salt Strong community. He was going through a dry streak, so I invited him out on my boat over the weekend. We were going to fish Saturday morning, but decided to try a quick Friday evening trip. Glad we did. Fished a nearshore reef and hooked up quick on some nice big bull reds. Fished the following morning and picked up a nice slot red in the marsh. Missed quite a few other nice fish, but the weekend was action packed. The fishing is just going to get better and better as the water temp gets lower!

Those redfish put up a great fight! My favorite fish to catch in the bay. Starting to see more bull reds in the bay lately. Hope to have some new content up soon after these high winds lay down a bit.

@@SaltyDogTexasFishing Yes and I heard the wind has been blowing all summer. I am headed there in a couple weeks to do some fishing.
Strong SW winds muddy up the water and make it tough to hit nearshore reefs and the jetties. Luckily we've had some north winds that have laid the water down and increased water clarity. Lower water temperatures have also triggered the red bull run and flounder are also returning in good numbers.

It's a method of reeling in a big fish. You reel down, then pull use the fishing rod to pull up and keep tension on the line, then reel back down and repeat until you land the fish.
What size rod? 7’6?
When popping corks, I use 7’ and 7’6” medium powered rods. 7’6” definitely casts further and is great for fishing from the boat or from shore. Not do great for wade fishing.

I was hoping to get more videos up today, but I wasn't able to fish through the strong East winds we were getting this weekend. Caught a whole bunch of small sand trout, some undersize specks and one slot speck. Then my trolling motor went out and I couldn't fish the marsh. I should have a lot more content by next weekend!
