  • In this video I install new number plates to replace my old warn out plates, I was unable to use the old plates as a template as the holes wasn’t aligned with the proper number plate fixing points, so I show how I marked out the new plates and fix them to the car.

Hi Steve, nicely done mate it's great to see someone that takes pride in what he does keeping these classics on the road and making sure that every nut and bolt is located just where it should be, if I had a classic like that I would be doing the same👏👌
I did replace my plates (with my own reg number) on my SLK using the same method as Mercedes by using a good old piece of double sided tape😎 Blue Pete would be proud of me🧐🤓😂
    Thanks Steve👍

Hi John, many thanks mate! I think those double sided sticky pads are quite good, as long as you use a good brand like 3M they can give a cleaner look as well. Like you said though this is more what it would look like when it left the dealership.
Nothing wrong with the double sided tape though mate!
Hope you having a good weekend. Cheers mate.

Yeah those double sided tapes are ok if you get a good one😁when I did mine I got a cheap one then fixed the plates on but the next morning the front one was laying on the ground 🤦‍♂😅
Needless to say both of them were replaced with the 3M ones, lesson learnt me thinks🤠🙄😂

I wouldn't mind having my number plates remaking but plastic ones put me off as they fade and crack so went for raised metal ones. I did get them nice and straight in the end.

I like the metal ones as well, but I wanted to keep the originality as best I could, the last ones lasted nearly 40 years we will see how long these last. It’s not always as easy as you think trying to get the plates straight is it, especially when you don’t have old ones that line up with the proper holes, well done getting your plates spot on though 👏👏 all the best. Steve.

@@Cavalier_Steve I would have had my number plates remade if my car was a classic but it's only a Corolla. I didn't screw them but used sticky pads as Aluminium and steel doesn't mix .

Hi Matt, thank you ☺️ how on earth they got the logo’s and everything absolutely spot on is just amazing really, I ordered these a couple of years ago I see on the Instagram page they are doing the colours on both the front and rear so hopefully you can get some exact plates made up. The good news is that Retro plates did give me some double sided sticky strips but I know that these wouldn’t last long on the textured front bumper plus I wanted to do them properly because that’s me, saying that though the double sided tape does give you a nice clean finish. I hope you get some from them I really recommend them guys and they was quick with a 1 week turnaround if I remember rightly.
      Cheers Matt! 👍

Hi Steve, it's ok your very welcome .. i love your vauxhall video's and your channel... but yeh i can see what you mean by fixing the number plates on properly gives it a more factory look but your new plates look fantastic and make your car look fresh. Your cavalier is in brilliant condition and i will get some new plates from retroplates very soon. Keep up with the great content mate and thankyou for taking the time to reply😊

@@mattbowers8143 Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad that you enjoy the videos, that means a lot to me, I know this type of video won’t be popular but I hope that this helps others installing their number plates when they don’t have a template for reference.
I enjoy making the videos and create them as an extension to the hobby, I have what I hope would interesting video ideas over the spring/summer, I’m not an expert in any of this which I hope comes across to give someone the confidence to just have ago, it’s nice watching the subscribers come up, I’m definitely not in this to make money I doubt that I would be that successful anyway. Hopefully I will get better at presenting and giving good useful content for you to enjoy. Many thanks once again. Steve.
