The First Issue With My YT Izzo

  • After only 3 weeks of ownership I already ran into an issue with my YT Izzo. The SRAM TwistLok remote failed, causing my rear suspension to constantly lock itself as I'm riding it. This is super annoying, to say the least.

    Just ordered my Izzo, and your content has been helpful in making the decision. As frustrating as the lockout situation is, it's not a deal breaker for me. I've dealt with Fox service in the past, and had custom fork work done, and they are pretty great.

      That's great, I'm glad the videos helped! You're going to really like it - I love the bike, despite this annoying issue with the lockout grip.

    I talked to YT, and they recognize its a common problem. They blame brand compatibility with grip and shock. YT said they plan to send out a lever lockout to all the current Izzo owners, and will install with new Izzos going forward

      That's great news. I'm still waiting on YT to ship out a replacement for my lockout. Apparently they've run into supply chain issues outside of their control. The new ETA is midway through September.

    I have an Izzo and I'm going to swap the TwistLoc out for a lever style lockout. It won't be as clean looking but I can then run the grips that I want. Also, I believe fox makes a part for the shock that reverses the remote lockout function of the shock. That would make the shock open by default and locked when you twist the grip.

    • @lost_in_the_woods
      @lost_in_the_woods  4 года назад

      Having it reversed would be nicer I guess, but I think it'd still be pretty annoying if the twistlok failed again and the bike kept reverting into the open mode haha. Still, definitely better than having the suspension lock up all the time on the descents! If I was going to get my shock converted I think I'd just go right for the 3 position lever and run without the remote. Being able to pick your own grips is a nice benefit too!

      Watching the Singletrack first look vid I'm sure they say it's twist to unlock and push the lever to lock. Is this not the case? I would imagine yanking on the grip would mean it released to open. Seems odd it's the other way. Or is it that it does open but is then under a spring loaded position, which if fails or slips jumps to locked. Really fancy this bike and good to see ride reports coming through.👍👍

      @lost_in_the_woods  4 года назад +1

      @@rickyhill5263 Yes, that is how it is set up. The issue when the grip fails is that it can rotate forwards without pressing the release button, which causes it to lock up again.

      jpoole01 I mounted next to the dropper post, but I had to move both dropper lever and breaks a bit farther from grip. So in order from outside the handlebar: grip, fox remote, dropper post, break lever. Hope that helps!

    When I first saw this lockout mechanism the first thing I thought was “ something else that can go wrong” . On a trail bike like yours I think I would like it too but if I had a option of losing it I would . Apart from that issue , you seem to be riding it like it was made for you .

    • @lost_in_the_woods
      @lost_in_the_woods  4 года назад +2

      Haha well you weren't wrong about it being able to go wrong! I mostly agree - the remote is a pretty nice little gadget to have, but in the grand scheme of things I wouldn't be all that sad to lose it. The bike would be lighter and the bars would be cleaner! Other than the lockout going wrong though I am really enjoying the bike.

      Lost In The Woods I was thinking after I commented that if it was me I would definitely persevere and get it sorted. It’s a really nice thing to be able to call on and as you said it’s handy and you use it. I see this style of geo vs travel bike being the future of mtb . Great bike mate

  • @JJ_MTB_15
    @JJ_MTB_15 4 года назад

    Thats definitely an issue where you can’t even take off the lockout if you wanted to, without getting the shock serviced and the lever added which is easily the cost of a new shock or close.

    • @lost_in_the_woods
      @lost_in_the_woods  4 года назад

      Apparently you can kinda bodge it by feeding a cable in backwards and clamping it so the shock is always pulled into the open mode, that would be a free option. But of course then you can't lock the shock out at all, even by reaching down and twisting something.

    So, has YT gotten back to you about the remote? I just ordered an Izzo and am looking around for info on a lever option.
    What would you reccommend?

    • @lost_in_the_woods
      @lost_in_the_woods  4 года назад

      They actually haven’t, but I ended up getting a cheap lever off of amazon that works pretty well! It was super easy to swap too.

      I saw your amazon remote on the one month review video. Which remote is that, if you don't mind my asking? I'll grip one preemptively to the twistloc failure.
      Seems YT Canada has some pretty bad customer service. A braj of mine has been waiting for over a week on a reply for a badly bent rotor his bike came with.

      @@rickyjojo8600 Sure thing, it's this one www.amazon.ca/dp/B07ZC1CS5L. I've only had it for a few days but it seems to be working so far. I ended up needing a new inner cable too, the existing one ended up fraying when I tried to remove it.

    I guess YTs intention was not to run the bike in a lot of shatter. 😢 Ha.
    Anyway, while I wait for the bike, I got a Zitto lockout in order to get regular grips and hopefully avoid this surprise.

    • @lost_in_the_woods
      @lost_in_the_woods  4 года назад +1

      For me it’s 29” wheels all the way. I didn’t feel any drawbacks coming from 27.5”, but I sure did feel a lot of benefits.

    • @TheIllaman
      @TheIllaman 4 года назад

      I went with the spectral because with 29ers I feel too high on the bike. However, it really depends on the trail you ride. I live close to the Alps and all the trail I do are really (i) close, so not much pavement riding, (ii) steep and (iii) tight. Smaller wheels feel more nimble and appropriate for this kind of terrain.
