  • @erikvaldur3334
    @erikvaldur3334 6 лет назад +38

    just my 2 cents here. if an American citizen has a child with him or her and gets arrested, the child is separated from the parent on the spot.
    I am not agreeing with it but merely pointing out the consistency.

    • @PoaTB87
      @PoaTB87 5 лет назад +2

      @Trustin Lewis Maybe because they have other family they go to during the duration of time their parents are in jail. Or, in some instance, the child are in danger from their own parents. The situation is quite hard to understand without content. But even if they were separated from their parents due to a crime their parents committed, they still have the option to see them or call them. They are never far away.
      But the situation of immigrants does not reflect this. No visitation, no phone calls, not even a letter. None of that is available because the systems misplaced them all. Parents don't know where their kids are, kids don't know where their parents are, and kids are in a strange situation. The situation of American kids being separated from their parents does not compare.

    • @PoaTB87
      @PoaTB87 5 лет назад

      @Trustin Lewis I'm not proposing anything. Just answering your questions. Why don't you propose something more humane for the illegals? Oh wait, taking kids away because orphanages are better then where they were is the better solution, right? Wow, and somehow being a liberal sounds less insulting by the second. Maybe you should take a moment to reflect your words a little long. Unless you don't mind being indecent, then by all means, continue on.

    • @PoaTB87
      @PoaTB87 5 лет назад

      @Trustin Lewis No, that is good enough. Nothing more needs to be done at the moment, thank you. That new thing that we do? Where we separated parents from their children? That was too much. I wouldn't mind a new way to stop illegal immigrants from coming in to the country, but make sure that its humane and sound.

    • @PoaTB87
      @PoaTB87 5 лет назад

      @Trustin Lewis Right. Under Obama. And Congress, with all their anti Obama rhetoric, didn't catch wind of it until Trump forced it even further. The Republicans, with all their dislikes on their former president, didn't even bother to bring this to light to show the people what a real sham he was. Right, of course.
      Either you are fishing for more excuses, or you are becoming desperate to not find common ground on a more cohesive solution for this immigration problem. Either way, I need sleep and I have wasted enough time and energy to try and reason with you. Good Night. 😚

  • @insrtcowjoke
    @insrtcowjoke 6 лет назад +28

    The issue with children being separated is pretty simple, actually:
    There are a number of people sending their children over the border, but aren't coming themselves. They literally pay someone else - sometimes an uncle, sometimes just some offering the service - to bring their children up here. To make matters even better, these people usually claim, "I'm their father/mother."
    This puts the US government in the dubious position of trying to find out just _who_ these kids are and who _their_ parents are. I mean yes, it's bad, but we're literally trying our best to make the best of a bad situation. Some of these 'couriers' aren't good people, and will set these kids up with modern slavery to gangs.
    So yeah, some kids are getting separated and not always correctly. That's the issue you face when people with no ID or with ID that you can't rely on.
    Seriously, what is the alternative?

    • @umungus518
      @umungus518 2 года назад +3

      Don't forget human trafficking is also a huge problem and part of the reason why we separate children from parents. • @MegaMapper
      @MegaMapper 4 года назад +8

      2 reasons: They take them away because it's difficult to control everybody especially in overcrowded facilities and if kids and adults are togheter you can expect pedophiles doing weird shit there.
      Remember that highly secured prisons with adults only have rapes etc. so from not-so-highly-secured ICE facility you might expect more of that stuff so that's why they are separated.
      Besides... it's parents fault. If they go through dangerous journey to get illegally to richer country it's totally their fault if their children are taken away from them. They could do it legally and learn english and get legal job in better country so their kids will be safe but nope... Instead they do criminal acts so they are criminals and criminals are taken away from children.

      I understand both of your points. Mine was that the argument for not breaking up families even though a law was broken is ludicrous because it happens every single day to actual citizens of this country. What's good for us needs to be good for them, isn't that one of the reasons for coming here? To enjoy our freedoms and prosperity? Well laws are part of coming here.

    FYI, the separation of children from parents from their kids has been going on for years, and yes even during the Obama administration. The main reason is they cannot put a child with an adult while in confinement. If we did then you would be hearing cases about children getting abused while under US care? As with the majority of these issues the solution isn't simple and an effective solution hasn't been done with any previous administration! Our politicians have never really tried to fix it and never will!

    It is not illegal to seek asylum under international law, point one. Point two the refugee convention refers to illegal manner of entry only to stipulate that such entry is not grounds for punishment. Point three therefore it is false equivalence to equate people seeking asylum with actual criminals as justifying the separation of families. A child cannot follow a criminal into jail, but a person seeking asylum has by definition not committed a crime under international or US law - it is at worst a civil violation which the refugee convention (that the US is signatory to) stipulates must not be punished.

    I work in public safety near the border. Over 1/3 of the kids are not even children of these adults. People have learned that dragging a child across the border is an E-ticket into the country.
    We even have people that live near the border that take their kids across the line to "rent" their children out people wanting to cross. It's absolutely disgusting.
    Speaking of disgusting let's not even go into the details about what happens to children that are being brought across under false pretenses. Shall we just give them all apartments and hope these kids aren't trafficked by the people posing as parents?
    On that note, are we giving the children of parents arrested bunk beds in prison because we don't want to separate them? Why not? It's because these kids are put in grave danger being put in the mix with adults.
    It's fun for Hollywood and politicians to express outrage from their gated communities, but that isn't the reality of what is happening on the ground.

When we were about to cross I was crying and the coyote told me that if I stay quiet he will buy me a bag of Lay's when we got to the other side and when my parents told me I stay quiet and when we got to the other side I got the bag of Lay's. 😂

    Fix the laws so this doesn't happen. Come through a port of entry so this doesn't happen. Don't commit crime so you keep your kids. So many criminals lose their kids but they made the choice not the government. The government absolutely needs to change the laws so this insanity can end. I think we need a faster court process and the ability to send people home if we decline their entry

      Sorry to say this but the government didn't make the parents bring/send the children to the US. The government didn't make the parents/kids walk across the border illegally. I blame the parents not the government. I didn't blame Obama's administration when he did the same thing or worse and I don't blame Trump's either. I do blame the parents. Liberals think this is a new problem. It's tragic but it's definitely not new. Personally I would like to see the borders closed until we take care of everyone here first. I lived in some of the poorest parts of this country. It's not flowers and rainbows for everyone already in the US. Go visit Chicago or Seattle and tell me we should be taking on more charity cases
