    The more I listen to Brett the more I realize that Eric is the smart one in the family. Joe's 100% right about this. Brent didn't even consider the cognitive dissonance that comes into play when a society gets brainwashed for generations.

    • @johnnytucker6709
      @johnnytucker6709 5 месяцев назад

      The notion that society as a whole has been brainwashed because of a belief system that they adhere to, because that belief system has stood the test of time due to its utility, is a rather myopic opinion. To right off all of religion to "brainwashing" seems to me, is far more of a stretch to believe, rather than believing or understanding that religions, regardless of whether or not they were truly "divine", had profound utility.
      And if you have to resort to an ad hominem attack (basically calling Brett Weinstein, of all people, dumb) in an attempt to discredit them (and ipso facto their opinion(s)), then you must not be very confident in your opposition. Which begs the question... Why not? Talk about cognitive dissonance...

    • @delicious_seabass
      @delicious_seabass 4 месяца назад +1

      Of course its only brainwashing when its ideas you don't approve of, right? You don't think atheists exhibit cognitive dissonance? They're all just perfectly rational people? Don't assume that you have all the answers and if everyone just followed your morals, ethics and ideas, the world would be a perfect place. Most people, even atheists, appear to be predisposed to some sort of spirituality, and if that's the case, then they will fill that void with something.

      joe is absolutely and clearly in the wrong here. "i think all ideology's are cults" is a hilariously ignorant we're all, always, all the time, subject to ideology. there are fundamental and absurd assumptions underlying all of our thought processess and actions. im not a theoretical physicist or scientist, but i do understand that our entire basis of science and knowledge is based on fundamental assumptions (i think its stuff like we assume passage of time or motion idk). at the end of the road we're all subject to ideology wether its heavens gate, catholicism, mormonism, capitalism, communism. he's stuck in semantics there is a purpose to differentiating religions and cults im an atheist too i think a great deal of catholic practices are much more reflective of a cult than a religion, but regardless its a significant and important distinction.

  • @homicidalgeorge
    @homicidalgeorge Год назад +18

    i think they’re the same thing. by definition a religion is a cult but just because it’s a cult doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. there’s a stigma to that word that if you call something a cult it automatically means people gathering around in black robes and sacrificing babies to the dark lord. a cult just means a group of people who worship something/someone it doesn’t always have to be malicious.

      It's kind of interesting, I have noticed I can have a very strong disagreement with another Republican / conservative / libertarian and we can very civilly articulate our arguments back and forth. On the other hand, trying to have a similar argument / discussion with a leftist is usually impossible. They will usually not argue facts and specific cases, but will argue only generalities and emotions. When they do use facts or figures it's very Cherry picked and misleading. A good example of this was yesterday a discussion on equal pay for women. The leftist kept arguing the statistics that annual salaries for women are less than men, but would totally ignore how this statistic does a not reflect the amount of hours of worked or the type of work being done. So the statistic they want to use compares annual pay for a part-time McDonald's worker with a 60 hour a week oilfield worker.

    When I had DMT, i definitely wasn't in a familiar place or a place I'd been in any dreams prior to the experience and haven't seen anything close since having DMT.
    It was probably the most astonishing or surprising thing I've ever experienced. I didn't know our brains had the capacity to create such experiences. I'm still debatable whether i created the illusions and conversations with these entities or whether some other force implanted them in my brain. There was definitely some type of element of leaving my physical body vulnerable, as i broke on to the other side, which would seem the only way of infiltrating my thought process.
    I've done skydiving, Bungy jumping, scuba diving etc and this experience is right up there with the best of them. We fear what we don't know or understand...i was scared shitless, as i was in a place i didn't know or understand, despite preparing myself to be entering another realm and potentially visiting little people and having conversations with them, nothing can prepare you for this experience, because when it happens...i was like "no f@#ing way, i simply can't believe it"

I find it so interesting what you are saying about the production of DMT in REM 🤯 With this new info in mind, it could explain the hypnogogic hallucinations that occurs daily ( unmedicated ) along with other strange sleep phenomenon which accompanies the condition.

      Catholicism is a perversion of Christianity. It was a way for the government at the time to gain control of people.
      A true Christian can see the fallacies of the catholic religion. God/the bible has clear messages that never change. Under the catholic religion, it's whatever suits the powers that be. That's why people get divisive about the pope because some argue that he should stick to what the bible says, and others are ok with him changing the rules to appease the masses.
      Under Christianity, the rules are the rules, set by God/Jesus, and there's no deviating from them. Under Catholicism, the pope can change them in order to keep people going to church (for revenue).
      I've talked to priests whom purposely withhold information from their followers because they're afraid they'll stop going to church. Effectively giving them feel good-misinformation for the sake of continuing to get offerings from them. When for Christians, the truth is far more important than money/fame/status or even control.
      Christianity is about self control and having fellowship with Christ/God for our salvation, where as Catholicism is about following the church with pseudo-Christian messages.
      I used to be catholic until I read the bible and realized how far off Catholicism went from the original messages. Which is one of redemption and salvation rather than condemnation.

      @@jackburton3212 your so correct altough i think its more nefarious than that. I believe the popes to be agent of evil and their cults to be synagogues of Satan.
      One thing well agree on is their definetley NOT Christian. Christians believe in indiviuals connection the Christ. Catholics believe that the pope connects them and without his approval they cannot be saved. A literal quote from 2013 "you cannot have an individual connection to jesus christ, only i can forgive your sins" pope benedict xvi and he goes on to say more satanic and anti christian things.

      according to his line of thinking, there is no religion, that They are all cults. I think biggest difference is that in Cults, they try to control your life, make you behave with negative reinforcement, try to manipulate you into buying into their bs. With religion it is usually texts that has stories that has parallels with life and they just resonate with your own experiences and the priests of those religions want to share you their story so you'd know more than you did yesterday, so you can articulate what you've been experiencing and make those choises consciously, but otherwise leave everything up to you. There is no hell, no punishment, nothing except things we all universally agree to obey. This ofc does not change the fact that human aspect of all belief systems is as stable as the humans that are in it. It does not mean religion itself is not real, or bs, its just their human representitives have failed them.

    • @justinmartin4662

      Of course he's either right or wrong.. He's making a statement claiming that the religious institutions in place are there because they work, and only made it because they make society better, stronger, and less corrupt, including the need to keep itself from becoming corrupt. Anyone that has studied the history of the Catholic Church especially should be able to provide enough examples from a period of 19 centuries on why that is complete bullshit.
      He also talks about priests passing down their genetics through their influence over their flock and how they effect the outcome of their lives, which doesn't make any sense. Genes aren't an intellectual concept, its a part of us physically, its why we have the characteristics we have like eye and hair color, and even if we are more susceptible to various diseases and are passed down from our parents, the reason why people often look like their parents.
      The reason why Christianity is so widespread and ingrained, especially in the Western world is due to the fact that for around 1000 years or so, if you were a pagan and lived within marching distance of a Christian population large enough to put together an army there was a good chance you would be invaded, and if you didn't convert you would be executed in some of the most cruel, horrifying, and disgusting methods I've ever heard of, and I've studied war for years..
      Claiming that there have been rules and structure put in place to stop corruption, to keep priests celibate, and prevent them from getting rich are just ignorant and how he claims they have been so insightful, otherwise other groups that think the same as they do without the mistake would gain influence.. He must not ever fact check his own thoughts, or do any research. There are thousands of denominations of Christianity now, Catholics and Protestants have been warring and killing each other up until just a few decades ago and now they have to put up walls to keep each other separate. Meanwhile there ARE Catholic priests that are married, priests in Africa are disgustingly corrupt and do great harm to their own flock while the Vatican seems that they couldn't care less, Bishops are living in million dollar apartments with their art alone worth tens of millions using the church bank to hide their wealth and they don't seem to do any good for society. When they do implement change, its often long after others have done so and they join the procession at the tail end and as Mark Twain pointed out, never forget to take credit for the change in the first place. They, like the Bible were pro-slavery, until most of the world had outlawed it, they were very anti-gay and responsible for the UK especially keeping homosexuality illegal until the 1950s, but of course now like to act as if they are tolerant, and that even gays are God's children.
      I could probably fill a book just explaining how wrong this guy is when it comes to the Catholic Church, and several others with the other cults out there.
      The definition, being "a group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister." easily meets the definition that most would probably agree with.
      The main reason why the cult of Christianity survived till now is because its always been about power over belief, if they stuck to their beliefs and tried to preach and practice the religion as its supposed to be practiced as the Bible commands, and what was far closer to being actual Christianity until the enlightenment civilized it a bit there would either be far less Catholics, or the world would be a far more horrible place to live in. Society isn't doing good because of these institutions, they are thriving despite them.

And I as an agnostic, believe that religion in an individualistic sense is extremely powerful and in most cases positive, but in a collective sense it is very dangerous. When a person is able to grieve with the thought that their loved one will ascend to heaven and their soul continues to live on is an extremely powerful and positive belief, but when her congregation becomes a popularity contest and every little thing anyone in the congregation does gets talked about (mostly in a negative sense) and possibly get ostracized by your so called family because of how tight knit they are. You're all wrong!!! I've experienced enlightenment multiple times in my life. Agnostic is also a cult so do not be misguided in the logic that because the belief set in the worship on sience is void of a magic god or alien lifeform. It functions exactly as the so called cult does, you must except the belief set or Darwin and other theoretical insights including the big bang theory. So always remember and remain open minded to the concept that DMT slowly trying to guide us along. The methods do change and all cognitive mind's are not wired the same, some people need a structure based way of life, other's thrive on structuring the lives of others. As long as the ladder man in the last sentence is providing a DMT based interpretation that benefits the person adhering to the structure it's ok. It's true that the ladder can be occupied by an unwholesome person who exploit, manipulate and so on. It's difficult to convince people to believe they are involved in something proven to be a lie when every night you lay down, you have the ability to be subjected to DMT brain activity wether it be mild in nature or non eventful hense easily disregarded or extremely potent either pleasant or in the form of an intense nightmare. When you're subjected to that brain function from birth it's difficult to know what waking interpretation of this existence really is. We are all just hallucinating together during the day trying to make sense of biological life and resource management, yet at night we all drift into a singular realm of DMT and experience vividly mind bending perceptions that no other human had other then you. We should be vary carful with common sense and alter all belief set's over time to adopt what sience has shown us. Yet like I say my fellow human friends, sience is a cult, wether good or bad we all need to agree no belief set is void of insanity. It's a core function of are brain.

But when religion is in a collective sense I have problems with it. That's all I'm really saying. I'm not putting down any one religion, I'm not saying me being agnostic is right, I don't know what is right, and nobody else does either, all we have is beliefs, and I believe if I don't know for sure then I can't act as if a God exists. Vincent Serafini he is highly open minded and thoughtful about the topic where as joe is not. Joes mind is made up so it’s black and white for him. The other man is looking to fully understand these systems and sees many colors.

      @@brandonguthrie8122 Thats because Weinstein is a wishy washy little bitch that is always afraid of offending anyone. He's been that way since Evergreen. He went with that whole mentality there until it finally impacted him directly and he was threatened. Then he decided he didn't want to go along anymore. The guy is 100% a weasel.

      It's not that Weinstein is wishy washy, he's an academic, Joe is a comedian. Joe can say whatever he wants with hardly any backlash, in this case, since he was raised Catholic, he can get away with it entirely. Weinstein can't.

      What degrees has he earned? What professional research, blind studies, neutral sided essay was submitted to earn a doctorate? Did Joe Rogan have a thesis that was published? If the established medical journals are wrong what did he write that disproves them?

      @@1984Brandon why does he need a degree to tell people how DMT changed his life? he's never claimed he was any kind of professional. i'm not sure why you need to be a doctor or a published author to tell people your life experiences, or why you can't learn something valuable from them as a watcher/listener.

    I was able to experience discussions like this with a coworker a long time ago. He was from Canada. We shared an office space and periodically we would have political discussions. We would always present the devil's advocate to each other on different stories. We were always able to present our points of view in a mature way, and at the end of the discussion we would agree to disagree in a friendly manner, and that was always the end of that particular topic. We never once got in a heated argument, and always recognized each others point of view in a mature way.

      I had to do that with a very close friend in college who I met on day 1 & became fast friends… a year & a half goes by when I learn his political beliefs which I genuinely believed was a joke, esp given his sense of humor, but no he was serious. At first I was flustered acting on impulse, and it didn’t go well. This bothered me, I actually felt guilty & I broached the topic later on at a different angle, mature, respectful, open minded, researched, and conversing to let a person finish listening to what they really said, to drastically different result. That’s when I learned how to agree to disagree because I had a personally vested interest.
