Now that I’ve finally watched the series, I can say without a doubt… Holy crap, that “terrible marksmanship” bit was right on the money. Seriously, some scenes the bad guys are shooting directly AROUND the completely stationary targets. It’d be funny if it weren’t so pathetic. Oh what the heck, I’ll laugh anyway. Still though, great show.
At least they had guns they could actually shoot. Most cartoons around then had lasers they could just wave around and never actually do anything with.
I am now wondering which came first: BtAS or Darkwing Duck. Because as soon as Conroy started that line, I suddenly pictured Batman saying "I am the terror that flaps in the night!"
@@Ranjithkumar-vn1bd you should correct yourself with google. The orginal line is night not knight. He meant to bring night (darkness) to bring fear on criminals
All my childhood. I watched it on French TV, everyday after school, eating bread with chocolate spread on it. I don't think I missed any episode. Just having all these images dropped within the few minutes of this trailer brought so many emotions and memories. Thank you Screen Junkies. We didn't have Mark Hamill's voice of course, but the French overvoicing of the cartoon was excellent too.
I did the same, the hour was convenient (for once French TV did something right), PLUS I saved almost all of them on VHS tapes. Used to watch them often, until VHS went out of style. But it's ok, now I have the internet, I always know where to find them.

@@EmperorZarikar, MCU is garbage. TDK trilogy is gold. End of story. The OP was a moron, too. Because he clearly forgot that the only superhero movie to win an Oscar in a major category was a Batman movie. So clearly the character was getting good renditions after this show ended.
As a kid that grew up on The Animated Series, one of the things I loved about the Arkham games was that they felt like the series but darker. Like they knew that the the kids that had grown up on the series were now the teens and adults going to watch the Nolan movies and were inspired to update the feel of the cartoon to have an appeal that was both nostalgic and modern.
That's why they're the best! God it felt good to play those video games. he characters acted exactly as I expected but were a little more mature because they weren't locked into a kids TV show.
More importantly, they got Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill for their voice actors too. I remember my friend started playing it when I was over one time and instantly recognized Kevin Conroy's voice and was just ecstatic.

@@graciegj63 I dunno, it works on a few levels. By shooting the Joker, instead of tackling him into the electric cables or however, Tim was showing just how irreparably broken he was. Even "redeemed" he still used a gun, a deliberately lethal method on a criminal. The Joker sort of won, he made Batman's protege violate the One Rule, and thus twisted the knife to Batman one last time. The metaphorical one anyways, the literal one got jammed into ol' Brucie's knee.
It just occurred to me: this show had guns. What other cartoon from that time shows bad guys trying to riddle people with bullets? Batman TAS was more badass then I realized.
They had to fight hard to get guns in the show, but I think the fact they generally used Tommy Guns, which don't exist anymore, is why they could get away with that. Kids don't have access to Tommy Guns anymore. True, they did use handguns but mostly Tommy Guns.

@Jared Dowty It's a good film, and probably better than any of animated direct-to-video DC movies I've seen since then (Return of the Joker and Under the Red Hood probably came closest). I grew up watching this batman and never thought about the intro in this way. Those two poor guys... Wrong place, wrong time
Poor guys? They had shifty eyes; Batman obviously felt threatened; he was "standing his ground" .
My perception was almost changed...until I remembered the intro is basically a shortened version of the pilot episode.

Now that I’ve finally watched the series, I can say without a doubt…
Holy crap, that “terrible marksmanship” bit was right on the money.

I will never get over the fact that the goons literally shot AROUND bats and Montoya.
Say "I am vengeance. I am the night. I AM BATMAN!"

Wait, bread with chocolate spread??? 😯😯😯

I did the same, the hour was convenient (for once French TV did something right), PLUS I saved almost all of them on VHS tapes. Rocksteady used THIS version of Batman as the inspiration for their Batman Arkham games.
Everyone used this version of Batman for inspiration.
More importantly, they got Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill for their voice actors too. I remember my friend started playing it when I was over one time and instantly recognized Kevin Conroy's voice and was just ecstatic.
That's because they were also written by Paul Dini.
Missed that joker burn on two face when says "Get out of my face clown" and he replies "Which one?"

@@SarajevoKyoto Yea, they really screwed it up in Batman Beyond movie. The Joker getting shot is way less traumatic than getting electrocuted.
@@SarajevoKyoto Yea, you do have a point there.
The artstyle and aesthetic of this series is unrivalled
We need more people shaped like rectangles in cartoons again
It just occurred to me: this show had guns. What other cartoon from that time shows bad guys trying to riddle people with bullets? Batman TAS was more badass then I realized.
It had less successful kills with those guns than the average stormtrooper, however, so it wasn't *THAT* far ahead...
They had to fight hard to get guns in the show, but I think the fact they generally used Tommy Guns, which don't exist anymore, is why they could get away with that. Kids don't have access to Tommy Guns anymore. True, they did use handguns but mostly Tommy Guns.
The Disney Afternoon line up. Talespin had guns and Negaduck in Darkwing Duck pulled out a shotgun several times
LOL true...guns and the worst marksmen on planet earth ever.
Gargoyles not only had guns but had a gun safety episode that actually dove into how everyone is at fault and equally resonsible for safety.
