This is what I have been trying to find. It's so difficult to find videos where people actually show the skill, rather than just describing the equipment required for it. After searching for 12 hrs, this one is what should be the top result in search, when I search "calligraphy hand lettering using nib pens". Thanks mate! I am a programmer, and I wanted to learn this as it is so calming and meditative and beautiful. Something which we programmers are in dire need of ALL THE TIME!
Thank you for the very kind comment! I'm a electrical technologist myself and it's my go to relaxing activity. I'm glad the video could help you learn :)
I am just learning and I loved your writing.....very much! I did not buy the correct pen so I'm a little frustrated.....back to the drawing board. But, I won't give up!
Thanks so much for the video and the links!!!! I am just finishing dental school and I have nothing to study for right now!!! I have been wanting to learn modern calligraphy, I am so excited!!!!
Beautiful! It's like magic! I can't wait to get started. No helpful suggestions - it was a great video. Oh, you might tell how to keep your letters the same size and straight once you get off the lined practice sheets.
It's going to sound cliche but its true.... Practice. That's it. More you practice the more consistent your letterforms will be, with or without guidelines.
Which time? LOL... The first time, I found the supply list to be extremely helpful (especially the nib - I love that nib!). The practice sheets gave me more ideas about my form but I do love having them because they are really handy for remembering styles. It's hard to say what's the "most" helpful because all of it seems to have impact. The way to hold the pen, the supplies as well as the dos and don'ts. I think the most impressive thing I saw once was when you made a pen from a coke can and actually made fantastic lettering with it. THAT was awesome! :) Also the pencil calligraphy was impressive. Your resourcefulness is remarkable. I've just purchased pilot parallel pens so I'm looking to learn more Gothic styles, or Old English.
+Fabrizio Very good point. This is purely a stylistic choice. Modern calligraphy isn't required to be all connected like cursive. So you would take your pen off the page start a new letter. That being said I stead of the downstroke you could continue the thin upstroke into the next letter. Hope this is clear! Good question
here I am again... I want to ask that while drawing my upstroke (form right to left) its formed thick, is it normal? (like those in "a") again, thank you for the tutorial!
No that's.not supposed to happen. Upstrokes should be minimal pressure which should be a thin line. A few things could be happening, your nib could be new and need some cleaning with soap and water. If it is not new, it may be bent and the tip does not work correctly. Or the tool you are using is for monoline calligraphy. What writing tool are you using?
Rhyza and Rhian Hey! I made a modern calligraphy video tutorial with Crayola markers here: ruclips.net/video/v0vk6kTM4jE/видео.html Brush pen video in the future :)
A screw top ink container I found is better than the Tupperware type lids, because of the inky mess, but your modern script is great , well your f needs work 😆 thank you so much ✨✨✨❣👍🏼
i scrape the paper a lot. like the paper kinda rips when i do my upstroke. do you think its the paper? if so, can you recommend a paper good for practicing? thank you!~
thank u so much for the practice sheets bro . I am truly using them already printed . Also i love your tutorial . ;] in case if i will make a vedio i will send it to u ;]

Plz reply. I saw in many videos that we have to wash the nib bcz at the beginning, it contains oil,bcz of that we can not write. How do i wash it? Is there any specific way? bcz I've seen in many videos that they flame the nib a little bit.plz tell me what to do????
Hi! There's no one way, I recommend having a little bowl with water and dish soap and to scrub an old toothbrush to scrub it. Then dry it with a paper towel or cloth
Thanks for you best way to teach this topic. I am requesting you that plz. can you give me whole information about the pen (and tools also) which are used in this video including the manufacturer and link to buy them (if possible). Thank You!
Nope! Letters stay the same, however, the oblique pen will have to be specifically for lefties (that or just get a straight dip pen). I have heard it is a little more challenging because your hand may smudge the letters, but I am sure you are well aware of that.
Hi Dorothy, just tested it and it's working. There should be an email called "Confirm request for information" and you must click confirm my subscription to have your consent to email you further.
Calligrascape just started doing calligraphy yesterday and didn’t go all too bad haha wasn’t from your video but going to give the font you did a go today:)
I love your video! Its very informative!!!!! I am using Parker ink pot for Calligraphy... but it bloats sometime on certain papers... now I don't know whose at the fault, paper or ink? Can you pleas e tell me if all ink bloats on certain papers or is the quality of ink is not appropriate...
+Twinkle Kabutarwala paper usually has a measure of g/cm^2 for density. It is usually a good metric of howuch it will bleed/bloat. Minimum 90g/cm^2. I say usually because too high and the paper is too dense to absorb ink (think cardstock). Just try some different parts and see what works with your specific ink.
+Twinkle Kabutarwala Both lol (I know right) below 90 will bleed for sure (normal printer paper) and heavier paper is totally a toss up. I've had 140 bleed and a different brand not. Absorbency is unfortunately not a measure on paper package and each company is different. If I had to make a sweeping statement, 90 and above should be fine but check art stores for paper specifically for ink applications. But it's case by case basis and my plan is to make a post of acceptable papers at some point.
I loved the video! However, I did get bothered every time the paper itself shifted with the nib! It made me cringe a little every time that happened. :)
Hope you don't mind me being honest. I find the background music distracting. I just took a copperplate class - I think your video would be more helpful if you explained pressure used to form letters and also what makes it modern calligraphy vs say copperplate. Is it just not writing on the lines??
Hey! Don't mind you being honest at all, I encourage it. Sorry the music distracts you, it looks like you'll have to mute it. This videos was meant to get someone started from square one if they had the tools. It seems you have more experience than the video it was meant for, which is great! My full written post on modern calligraphy is in the description if you want more information! But short and sweet version is Copperplate is a traditional script that follows very strict rules of spacing/height/size/shape and modern varies all those things whenever you want. Cheers!
Didn't think about mute lol - I consider myself a beginner and trying to wrap my brain around all this calligraphy stuff. I'll have to check out the description - thanks

This helped me a while back but I do love watching, so I watched again. Thanks for all the tips!

Very nice ,
Cannot these nibs be used as a conventional nibs in normal pens ? Instead of being used as a nib in dip pens ?
adore your calm voice while writing!

Hi calligrascape can I ask for a tutorial of calligraphy using markers? Thankie!
Rhyza and Rhian Hey! I made a modern calligraphy video tutorial with Crayola markers here: ruclips.net/video/v0vk6kTM4jE/видео.html
Brush pen video in the future :)
Does it need more practice to do it?
Rhyza and Rhian personally I find markers easier to learn than pointed pen (this video). so it'll take less practice if you're anything like me
Yours Truly Thanks for telling me
I want to learn it with markers, too. Thank you for the hint.
Thank you for the guide sheets! I have a question, though, what's the difference between Copperplate and Spencerian?
Well there is not a big difference it is just how you like it
This is so easy and useful!!! Keep up please!! You're awesome!!💙💙💣💥

A screw top ink container I found is better than the Tupperware type lids, because of the inky mess, but your modern script is great , well your f needs work 😆 thank you so much ✨✨✨❣👍🏼
Haha yeah, I'm relatively new to pointed pen in the scheme of things. My first love will always be blackletter.
oh and thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely need to get a screw top :)
Yeah, tupperware lids can splatter as you open them, screw top makes that less likely
Thank you so much for this excellent video.

Modern calligraphy has no standard angle. You can add one of you want but I suggest when you're starting out you hold the pen just like any other pen

What kind of pen/tool are you using? The nib should be flexible. Often fountain pens do not flex and cannot write like this.
