I read a lot of the comments before I watched the video, and I kept thinking "There's no way all these people are right about this short video!"... But then I watched it. Oh my goodness.... I am astonished with how I was never taught this after trying to learn how to do calligraphy! And I've been interested in this ever since I was in the 6th grade in the back in 1989-90!! So I definitely tip my hat to you ma'am for compressing the absolute basics of calligraphy and putting them in this short, but very comprehensive video. And to think I just got a new set of brush pens delivered yesterday... I can't wait!!!

Okay, I am hooked!! I tried calligraphy once after a visit to the Japanese Deer Park in Los Angeles when I was 12. Mom bought me a kit which includes some pens, nibs, paper, and ink. I tried for a couple of weeks and never got anywhere near as far as I just did in 5 minutes with this video, following along with paper and pencil -- thank you so much! You definitely have a new subscriber!

I watched this video plus your videos: lowercase alphabet, uppercase alphabet and how to connect the letters into words (all on modern calligraphy because I'm an absolute begginer), I've been practicing for about half an hour and it already looks like I'm using this method for about a year! I have been battling with this particular font for many, many moons. The way you broke it down was perfect. You turned it into a one & done lesson. Of course I'll play around with it as to come up with my own style, but all I can say is Thanx a ton and be safe 🤘.
Wow! I did calligraphy with a calligraphy pen to get my thick & thins by turning pen to a 45 degree angle. This is amazing, i never knew you could do this with a sharp pencil. It was the angle not the pressure that made the thick & thins.

I always love calligraphy when I arrive to a new city I had bought a calligraphy set and someone stoled it along with my painting and art books but I have always loved to make writing look beautiful in school when I would write I will make leaves and draw pictures on my printing in school and my teacher would yell a me. But thank you for making something I got in trouble for so simple and accepting in 5 minutes
Nice one! Pressure is essential part in calligraphy. Upward light and downward harder reveals balance. We can't write light both sides and vice versa. This is the beauty of this art. God bless
years ago The Kansas City Jewelry School offered courses on hand engraving. the first several months consisted of practicing lettering strokes, with a pencil, similar to this.
