I've always started my calligraphy with pencil... And it's just so very interesting and easy... I would say... I don't really know about specific calligraphy pencils .. but yes.. i do it with just normal 2 b pencil... It still gives me a satisfying effect as a result😃🔥🔥❤️
@@kamnak3077 I don't think there are specific calligraphy pencils out there. Perhaps some with a flat tip that could be used for broad-edged calligraphy styles. The cool thing is that you can use pretty much any type of pencil to do pointed nib calligraphy styles :)

This video is SO good!!! Made me so fascinated to learn calligraphy and didn’t realize I could use a pencil. I am learning modern calligraphy and love it, even the drills. Now I want to download your sheets right away and get practicing. Thanks for all your free resources and making such a comprehensive video!!! :))
I'm so glad! Thank you, Kira for the kind comment. I just published a new video on how to create the whole brush calligraphy alphabet. If you're still trying to learn modern calligraphy i think that will be interesting for you as well :)
3:25 I am in love with this.... Can you please make a separate video on this.... It's just amazing.... Your content is always interesting Max!! Hope you are doing well!
Please make a video on how to make guidelines... I specially need it for Copperplate and italics.. both are more of familiar... But with so many differences after all .. Please help me out Max!!!
Thanks a lot! I started with brush lettering but wanted to try the „minimalistic lead pencil lettering“. Your video is very helpful! Sadly I struggle with getting thin lines. I use a FC jumbo in 2B and the upstrokes are not thinner, they are just lighter (with less pressure) than the downstrokes. Do you turn your pencil in between a letter so the lines vary from thick dark to thin light (I‘m sorry if you mentioned it somewhere else before)?
I can’t get my pencil drew like the calligraphy strokes. I sharpened the pencil and dulled one side of the lead as described but didn’t get that think & Thin effects when drawing. Both up and down strokes ended up the same thinkness. Its trickier when actually doing it than watching it if you are a beginner.
That's a great question actually. I should have addressed that in the video. Yes, they do. Especially the ones with a softer lead such as a 2B pencil. However, this shouldn't be a problem if you use a paper sheet under your writing arm. It will prevent the sweat and oils from your palm to smudge the pencil marks.
A very good explanation. Thank you so much. But: for me as non native English speaker you speak sometimes too fast ;) But in a video I can stop and repeat :)
@@letteringdaily most letters can be done with the basic forms of calligraphy " cefkqrsz" are the ones that need a specific stroke to complete its form :) at least for the miniscule alphabet :)
@@MissMarilynDarling Ohh yes now I understand. Yeah, you're right, but the difference is so small for some of them so i made the exception only those which are totally different. But thank you for pointing that out! :)

I genuinely appreciated this tutorial. The pencil was an easier way to learn than with a brush pen or markers.
Thank you, glad you liked it :)

You mean a video for minuscules and capitals using a pencil? Thank you for the kind words! :)
@@letteringdailyYes!!!... It's truly beautiful and i love it .. !!!
Yes. Whatever lettering was done at 3:26 was beautiful. It looks like it was a font. And it looks like it was about varying pressure.

Excellent episode -I'd love to get more training in this

No, i dont turn it. It's mostly based on pressure. I dont get super thin lines either, but i make it up by making the downstrokes thicker.
@@letteringdaily thank you for your answer

Thanks for the video. Does using pencils cause a lot of smudging?

That does not look like letters are on 55° slant?
It doesn't look because it's not :) Copperplate is usually written at 55. This is a modern alternation that has it's basis in the Copperplate script.
