I hope you're back on social media! I just discovered your channel, and your tutorials are very helpful for a beginner like me. I would love to see a video that shows which basic stroke make which letter. Love your calm voice and tips!
Thank you, Kelly, for your sage advice and sharing this video with us. Sometimes it’s hard to slow down and practice to get the muscle memory you speak of because we want to speed the process up. However, beautiful writing, with the correct and consistent spacing, only comes from practice, practice, practice. You ALWAYS make it look so easy! 😸
I'm so happy I stumbled across your channel, I've wanted to learn Calligraphy for years!!! This sounds so easygoing and self paced, plus I Love your store, so convenient and to get started is a lot easier than going to a craftstore and trying to find the diff between Beginner and Pros, thank you 😊
Really useful and helpful. Easy for beginners like me. Got to know which kind of practice paper to use .. How to approach with strokes and which alphabet to go with for particular stroke.
Great tips, I am beginning and it’s easy to be overwhelmed, you’ve inspired me to keep trying and use all my tools., colored pens I am going to start my drills of the day with this tip, thanks!!!
Great video... consistency is my current struggle and I have been practicing the alphabet and random words and sayings....this more concentrated practice should really help me improve!! Can you make more videos with how to practice other strokes... please!!
Thank you very much for this video! It really helped me understand how I should practise my lettering. I have done what you said and by the end of the second page my "ns" and "ms" were much better. What letter should I practise next? Can you give me an idea of what letters or order I should follow? I would appreciate your help. Thank you and be safe!
Very helpful, Kelly, and it makes a lot of sense to achieve consistency. I have one question though, and it has to do with letter spacing and "inter-letter" spacing. When writing in a line, particularly one that needs to "fit" in a given horizontal space, how do you deal with assuring consistent letter spacing within a constrained line width and do you normally take the "inter-letter" spacing into account as part of the "cell" each letter needs to fit in to make sure the line comes out right (from left to right)?
Hi - I have a Lamy Joy Calligraphy pen and am struggling to work out how to use it to get different thickness of strokes? Do you have any suggestions of how to use it properly for calligraphy strokes? Thanks so much!
Hi, I looked up the Lamy Joy calligraphy pen and it is a 'broad nib' not a brush tip like I use so it is not flexible. That pen is used for an entirely different calligraphy called 'uncial' or 'italic' or black letter etc.
Do you have any advice for drawing the compound curve with the underturn? I struggle to move my wrist to go far enough for the underturn. And I lose pressure control due to my pen changing it's angle.
Brandon, if you're right handed, move your hand further to the right when writing the compound curve or wider stroke and when you begin writing it you stretch your hand to the left. If you're left handed then do the opposite. Does this make sense?
@@kellycreates Yes that makes sense. Thank you, it helps me . I noticed that I mainly use my fingers when I’m writing. I take it I need to use my wrist more? I get better circles when I use my fingers only.
Calligraphy with a brush pen isn't 'handwriting' and we pick up our pens for the separate strokes. You can do a continuous upstroke into the loop with the h but best practice is to do a separate entrance. Also, if you don't want to see a line crossing over the downstroke, we pick up our pens too. We also pick up our pens to create a nice shape and angle of loop. If it's continuous the loop might look funny.
I’m loving these short videos covering a specific topic!
I like short videos too lol
The n's and m's are surely giving me hard time in practicing. Excellent practicing tips, thank you very much! 💓✒👍🏻🙏🏻
Just dedicate a few days or a week to only writing n and m :)

Hi, quick question tho,
What if my hands are shaking while doing the compound curve?
Shaky hands, especially on upstrokes, are very common for beginners. Over time, confidence will build and your upstrokes will improve.

Why shouldn't we do 'h' as a continuous thin stroke followed by a thick down stroke. Why do we need to break the initial thin stroke?
