  • Unfortunately the Draconic Bloodline was not enough to give us a passing grade so we now are going to fix it. Let me know what you think of the changes below.

    I like these fixes.
    1st - More dragon ancestry & Res
    6th - free flight
    14th - free pseudo-MM: Transmuted Spell
    18th - free pseuso-MM: Subtle Spell in a pseudo-Beast Spell THP-Wildshape: Dragon Form
Thus allowing for another MM: Option, before MM: Seeking/Empowered Spell.
I would've had their AC Calculation from 1st level based on CON, while their 18th level feature, CON + CHA, exemplified by their scales & then their inner Dragon Form.

A fix I always include with with Sorcerers is giving each subclass an expanded spell list like clockwork soul and abberant mind. For the draconic soul in particular, I let them switch out for abjuration and evocation spells, and when they spend sorcery points to cast spells, the damage dealt by the spell is Transmuted to deal damage associated with thier draconic ancestry. Not the strongest but thematic. Also I think a cool 18th level feature would be simply allowing them to once a day cast the shape change spell on themselves, but can only take the form of a dragon of thier ancestry

That's a great idea, but which spells should they have? Already one DND is giving out free spells where you can choose any damage you want

This subclass is really hard to give a list to without making it too complicated. That and the fact that there aren't enough spells to support all of the different types of dragons.

Honestly I really wanted to rework this subclass because it seems to be a little outdated the players handbook version isn't "bad" but it still needs to be reworked and i was really glad to see gem dragon as an option i think these changes are well needed in my opinion especially since the gem dragons are being added i personally don't think the bludgeoning slashing and piercing damage is necessary but it could be interesting

    Dragonic bloodline fix:
    Draconic Spells
Starting at 1st level, you learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Dragonic Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.
Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be an evocation or a transmutation spell from the sorcerer, Druid, or wizard spell list.
REASONS: I choose evocation to represent the elemental nature of the dragon with powerful elemental breath and it will synergize nicely with the level 6 affinity power of the dragon sorcerer.
I took transmutation as the 2nd school, since dragon in the lore are known to transform into humanoid form, the dragon breath spell is a transmutation spell.
The default spell list I would fill it with various shape of elemental spell attack (burning hand, lighting bolt, fireball, cone of cold, dragon breath etc...) including some defensive one (armore of agathys, fire shield), summon dragonic spirit (from Fizban) and polymorph since dragon often polymorph in humanoid to spy/blend in civilization.
I took the sorcerer, wizard and druid (instead of warlock) spell list, to gain acces to the druidic elemental spell that do not appears on the wizard spell list. Other then armor of aghatys, the warlock do not offer much in the elemental department.
    Dragonic resilience remain untouched.
Dragonic ancestry I would simply allow a character who already know Dragonic to choose a different language. Maybe add the gem dragon and shadow dragon within the possible ancestry? More option are always fun. But the gem option are WAY more powerful. I mean a lot less creature are resistance and immune to force then to poison....
    Elemental Affinity
Starting at 6th level, when you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with your draconic ancestry, add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll of that spell.
You gain resistance to your dragon ancestry damage type.
In addition when you cast any spell of 1st level or higher from your Dragonic Spells feature, you can cast it by expending a spell slot as normal or by spending a number of sorcery points equal to the spell's level. If you cast the spell using sorcery points, the damage type of the spell change to your ancestry damage type.
Creatures immune to your dragonic ancestry, loose the immunity and gain resistance instead only against your dragonic spell.
REASON: permanent damage resistance is fine at level 6, I'm still bothered that my tiefling-red dragon sorcerer still cannot benefit from double resistance, allowing it to upgrade to immunity (like the dragon mask allows to do) would be way too powerful, but it seem like it take away from some race/class combo.
I added the excellent abberant mind feature to cast your dragonic spell using sorcerer point and I solve the green dragon sorcerer problem of having no acid spell options, but letting him transmute for free fireball into acidball. Make perfect sense that my green dragon ancestry sorcerer should be able to cast an acidball. And the immunity/resistance switch only applies to the sorcerer spell. If he a multiclass and cast a cleric spell the creature do not loose it's immunity. If the allied divine soul sorcerer cast a sorcerer spell the creature do no loose it's immunity. This feature will also help bridging the gap between the damage type with more or less creature immune to them. Sorcerer who take elemental adept, the feat do not stack with this, so a creature immune and become resistance, you do not get to ignore that resistance. But elemental adept remain a good option in order to ignore the monster naturally resistant to your dragon ancestry
No need to touch dragon wing. Maybe clarify a little bit what "you can't manifest your wings while wearing armor unless the armor is made to accommodate them, and clothing not made to accommodate your wings might be destroyed when you manifest them." means. if my sorcerer wear of robe of the archmagi, can I cut 2 hole for my wing without destroying my robe? if I have a full plate+3 can I cut 2 holes for my wing without loosing AC? Can I wear my robe of the archmagi like a skirt and remain shirtless so my wing can sprout but still benefit from the robe magical property? What does accommodate means and how does it interact with the game? or maybe just make them spectral dragon wing and here we go.
Dragonic presence,I really like your idea of changing into a dragon but make it simpler:: You learn shapechange as a sorcerer spell and it doesn't count against the number of sorcerer known spell. But you are limited to only dragon type creature and you are considered as having seen all dragon type creatures for teh purpose of this spell. If the choosen dragon have elemental damage type, that type is changed to your dragon ancestry (meaning if your white dragon sorcerer transform into a dragon turtle, the steam breath will deal cold damage). The DC of your new form become that DC of your spell (so if your Sorcerer have a 19 DC for it's spell, the dragon turtle steam breath DC also become 19.) You cannot milk any type of poison, acid saliva or other material from the shapechange dragon. (so no you cannot milk your DC 19 pseudo dragon sting poison or wyvern stinger poison in a jar and give it to the rogue to coat his blade)
If the equipment is magic, as specified in the DMG the equipment size will adapt to the new form (so yes you'll be a red dragon wearing a robe of the archmagi if you want.
You can cast this spell once for free per long rest or use your 9th level slot to cast it again.

Great video really loved it. I always felt like the only thing that draconic Sorcerer really needed to give that extra boost was just take all the fizzband dragon spells and just make that their extended spell list and it'd be set

And maybe one of the fizzband feats added somewhere to 1 of there levels

The first draft was that but the more that I looked at that route, the more I felt that it needed a little more flavor

I thought extended spell lists always only had PHB spells on them?

I mean if we are doing a modern rework then we can do whatever we want lol. It's homebrew

@@DapperSnapperGaming I guess WotC only uses PHB spells so that people don't "have to" buy an unrelated book just to use their subclass properly.

As written, in dragon form at 18th level with 20 CHA, would Magic Missile do:
    A) (1d4+10)x3
    Or
    B) (1d4x3)+10
I feel like it’s B but just checking. WotC has been super careful of this interaction to not enable option A. Like Transmuted Spell not including force damage, so the PHB DB Sorcerers 6th level Elemental Affinity couldn’t apply. Or making sure Artillerists could never get Magic Missile as an Artificer spell to use with Arcane Firearm.

Good ideas; however, it didn't solve the dragonborn draconic ancestry sorcerer issue entirely. I mean, thematically, I play a brass dragonborn and wish to embrace my draconic potential fully, thus, choose draconic sorcerer - with brass obviously. Thus I gain resistance to fire, again, what a great early choice 😅 at least write a little "optional class feature" box like in the Tasha classes for dragonborn draconic sorcerers - I mean, I'd be happy if I get another cantrip that deals my type of damage instead of resistance twice 😊
