- Longplay or rather play through of "Combat School" (aka "Boot Camp") from Konami - released in 1987.
I say play through because this is hardly an expert run - this is on Easy setting and sorry I messed up firing range III - was experiencing horrible lag whilst recording! However you get to see the chin-up 'last chance' section!
Video and review of the Amstrad conversion coming soon!

I like how he gets sent in to fight terrorists using his bare hands after just training with a variety of fire arms.
All he had to do was kick everyone in the balls.
"Full Metal Jacket" The Video Game!
The president has been taken hostage, let's send some who's just finished bootcamp in completely unarmed.
Better yet, hire random, unarmed bodyguards to defend the president. Surely fists will beat knives, especially since they're not trained.
They would do for Trump
No
Could be worse, if it was Universal Soldier, let's send some dead guys in
“Just run in there and kick everybody in the balls.”
Just like real life
The hurt sound for the terrorists was re-used in the Castlevania arcade game a.k.a Haunted Castle. Which gave me a clue... T-san is possibly Shinji Tasaka
Classic arcade game this one. Really a lot of nice little extra touches in this one .. like the cutscene where they are running and the hero lags behind. I had totally forgotten about the "last chance" pull ups too .. it a nice little touch as well and getting a free extra chance is something that kids with very little money appreciate (even though the pull ups is a clever way to zap away whatever strength you have left in your arm/hand).

And this was the moment Nick sent his drill sergeant back home to his mother...
Also, the army teaches you how to kick a knife mid-air.
Played this on an arcade machine back in the summer of '94 . Always remember it because of the unusual trackball controller. It would do well being revamped as a mobile game I think.
I never heard of this game and stumbled upon a Twitter post mentioning this game came out on this day. What a novel and innovative game for the time! Arcade Archives need to port this soon!
Yeah, this, Rock 'N Rage, Dark Adventure, The Main Event, Metamorphic Force and Violent Storm.
Wow, they really know how to throw their hats when thet graduate!!! (To the moon?)
For all the Commodore 64 and Specy owners. I hope you had a nice funeral for your joysticks.
I didn't mind the joysticks as much as my right arm :)
no game could destroy the suncom tac-2 ;)
Funeral...? Oh, no...we had way too many casualties...we just buried them quickly...but what we couldn't bury...are the haunting memories...the sounds of plastic breaking...and springs snapping...
This is the first time I've seen the arcade version. Goes to show what an excellent conversion the C64 version was.
No it wasn’t
C64 version sucks
@@firestriker3580 You dont seem to appreciate how much in quality the arcade motherboards had at the time. Arcade machines were made with some of the best hardware at the time.
Back in the 1980s, Jack Tramiel ran Commodore (later Atari) and Hiroshi Yamauchi ran Nintendo. Both of these CEOs ran their businesses with an iron fist, and were penny pinching at every corner they could get away with it. They both told their hardware engineers to design hardware that will cost X amount of dollars so it can be marketed for X amount of dollars. Both CEOs wanted to market their hardware for mainstream audiences to buy quickly, there werent as many hardcore gamers back then. Thats why consoles lasted 4 years back in the 1980s and 1990s (the hardware became obsolete fast and new consoles were needed), todays consoles seem to go obsolete in about 8 years and its just that consoles are made with state of the art technology unlike back in the 1990s.
This game likely had 12 bit colour, while the C64 had 4 bit colour. This arcade board had a Hitachi 6309 processor, and the MOS 6510 on the C64. The arcade port could easily process things twice as fast as a C64 (possibly triple the speed). While I admit, Martin Galway did an amazing job with the sound and didnt let the sound effect drown out the music like the arcade version did, there a huge difference between a YM2151 sound chip and the MOS6581 sound chip. Believe me, there is a huge difference in hardware, and theres limits to what a C64 can do, especially on a system near the end of its lifecycle.
"You made!" is almost as good as "You are winner!"
He says "You made it", not "You made".
First stage on the bars: Woof Woof Woof Woof! :)
When the heroes of Contra were raw recruits...
I can see the resemblance.😆
Played it in the arcades and I was one of many of the victim`s who lost the skin off the there hand due to the track ball
for real ?
I was thinking about this as I read your post. My friend had his skin trapped between the trackball and the surrounding plastic.
Don’t underestimate how much that hurts back in the 80’s!
I had to see what happened after that damn firing range. I only had 1 target left! ONE FREAKING TARGET!
Attention: Terrorists have taken over. Save the hostages.
Nick: finally. I’ll be able to put my arm wrestling skills to the test.
I renember how brutal was this game when i meet MAME for the first time, it was Mame PLUS 0.113
卒業。そして緊急事態発生!いきなりの実践投入!そして任務完了!なんて胸アツな展開!
Shit, when it comes to "Boot Camp", mine was *FUCKING CONTRA! YOU WERE THROWN IN THERE LIKE "FUCK YOU, THIS IS ALL YOU GET! DESTROY RED FALCON, OR THE EARTH DIES!"*
X-Com was a complete inversion of that trope.
Good video,, Interesting twist on the sports themed games that were being made at the time... thanks for the upload
Ah, the days when terrorist's could take over Military bases with knives and bike chains. I loved this game on my ZX Specctrum.
_"Ah, the days when terrorist's could take over Military bases with knives and bike chains"_
Well, if those terrorists could walk through fire without getting burned, they could do anything ... of course, you're able to beat them, even though you can't walk through fire.
Nice!
LOL for the "Ooooomfff!" voice at 3:44.
That groan must have come from someone in the toilet having a hard time with his... number two! :D
Nunca vi esse jogo, mas na época era o que tínhamos e nos viciamos com esses jogos
I love this game when i was a kid everytime i went to my grandfather's house i played it with my older brother in this test 1:49 he always grabs a boat and crash it into the other one and i had to swim :(
PS:Sorry if something is misspelled im from Argentina :3
Joystick wigglers were an 80s classic style of games and yet, they were so bloody frustrating and, frankly, not too subtle 😅
Wow, didn't know about this game , brings memory's from when I went thru Bootcamp.
Do you shoot tracked drones in bootcamp? WOW!
Great playthrough
Yes exactly what I was thinking and going to mention in the review of the Amstrad version coming soon!
5:17 smoking is cool kids!
This game is a crazy mixture of other Konami games of various genres. It goes from the shooting stages on Contra, to Yie Ar Kung-Fu, to Rush 'n Attack. With arm wrestling and white water rafting thrown in for good measure lol.
Never finished this game before, good job :)
One of my childhood favourites
The first time I played this game, the cabinet had a track ball instead of joystick. Game was damn near impossible.
Thanks mate!
35 seconds.. woof woof woof! Where's the dog?
They had this game in the E-club at basic training in Great Lakes.
Que bonitos gráficos de aquellos tiempos
Not bad for a laugh, pretty short game - the fight with the instructor is pretty hard, and the final 'rescue the hostages' level brutal - one hit (apart from a thrown knife which takes energy) and it's game over!
Ahhhh Combat School. What a game. I wonder why this one has been suggested for me 🤔😂😂
That final boss gives me nightmares, what with that terrible language! "Son of a g_n!" and "Get l_st!", I hope they didn't let children play this.
Spectrum 128k version was the best, C64 version was cool too.
Funny that the terrorists don't have any guns and that the last two guys look like some bar brawlers XD
and the last guy now resembles Luke Harper from the WWE
But do I still get my VA Benefits when I complete the game?
That Joe needs to show a bit of humility like Nick
5:22 Zack Mayo Vs Emil Foley
I wish I could finish boot camp at the rank of Master Sergeant, lol!
0:32 "wuwuOWwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwu" 🤣
You made it... Nick?
It's Track & Field, but in the military.
Track and Field + Vigilante
When he had to take the penalty and do the pull ups - sounded like he was straining out a great big shit?
Heh, set the dip switches to easy like I did :D
Honestly, the final mission would have worked better if you were shooting at the terrorists, then when you confronted the leader, it becomes a fighting game.
This was a game that I loved but was not very good at at the arcades.
Yeah...
ARCADE
Yeah, forget about the secret services or special forces. Let's send in an unarmed private fresh out of boot camp to take on a terrorist group all by himself to rescue the president.
The thing is it won't last long when you play very easy or easy mode.
If you fail the sarge says "you got one last chance"
That’s only if you’re so close to completing a training. If you fail too severely it’s Game Over.
Omg there are so many messed up things with this game lol.
Ya
If only a U.S.-Duterte Investigation!!!
Time for a smoke after round 6 or 7
Haha yea - theres a few dodgy SFX in this one :)
2min. ... a Ponte que levava a casa do meu tio, virou escolinha, né?Coincidência?
A recruiting tool disguised as a video game.
LOL! Yea even more dodgy SFX! :D
I don't think this game had much arcade presence back then.
ヨロッパでは流行していた、一応。Commodore 64などのマイクロコンピューターにコンバージョンされたし。いろいろなジョイスティックを壊しちゃった~!
今は見たらただのプロパガンダだと思ってしまうけど。
I want your DOR
La cantidad de monedas que me gasté en este juego!!!! 🤣😂
Llegué varias veces al final pero no pude pasarme el final
Don’t be a chicken 🐔
This is where the stole the Pilotwings formula from. Do a bunch of BS minigames then at the end there's a level out of an action game.
That Sarge has just as small hands as Donald Trump. 4.34
Poor posture
