Zen2 vs Zen3 importance for 5000 U-series seams to be hugely overstated in this review. Games run exactly the same, and many multithreaded tasks too. Only in select tasks an advantage can be measured (not felt), but honestly- 6c/12t is a lot of CPU power, Zen2 or Zen3; more than a general user will make use of, or ever think there to be a difference.

I recently bought a slightly different version of this HP model (a smooth silver case and a 1 TB SSD) for around 600 EUR.
Here in Eastern Europe it's known as HP 15s-eq2008. Overall the model is an excellent budget machine - the 5500U is a snappy and efficient processor with a lot of potential, the gaming performance is suprisingly good for an APU, the speakers are LOUD and decent sounding, the display is IPS and bright enough, the battery life is also very good. Intel based machines here for the same price locally are bad - the processors are at best an slightly worse than 5500u i5 model, the dedicated GPU (when available) is at best an MX330/MX250 which almost always lag behind the 5500U's Radeon 6 APU, when paired an adequate dual channel 16GB RAM combo, the SSDs are usually half/quarter TB and most ridiculously you always have to choose - either IPS display, either dedicated GPU, either a 1TB SSD :D
Most of the main downsides of the HP are also easily fixable:
    - The original single 8GB RAM stick I complemented with another of the same 8GB/3200MHz type by Kingston (around 45 EUR) to enable the dual channel combo;
    - The display color calibration was kinda off out of the box (somewhat greenish) which is easily fixable with the Windows color calibration tool.
The only serious donwsides, that can be offputting for some people are the ports - an additonal full-sized USB and and an Ethernet port would have been much appreciated.

Overall decent for the price. What I have found out is that you could open up the AMD Radeon software in start-up and turn on virtual super resolution. This makes the display look a lot better than it used to be.

The reviewer above stated the upgraded IPS display is not the main selling point in the 15z-ef2000. No truer words have ever been spoken. I cannot get enthusiastic with the rest of the laptop due to the incredibly poor display on the unit I just received. The speaker, however is very good. Crank up the volume, close the lid, and this laptop becomes almost bearable.

I just ordered a custom built HP 15 ef-2000 series from the HP website for $585 tax included.
      1920x1080p
      512gb m.2 nvme ssd
      16gb ram 3200mhz
      AMD Ryzen 5500u .
I also got the 3yr extended warranty with accidental damage coverage for another $100. They mail you a box with prepaid label if any repairs are needed.
I'm not very familiar with the pricing of all the different variations of processors and graphics but it seemed like a decent price. There's so many people that are loyal to only a handful of companies and hate on the rest that it's hard to get objective feedback whether or not I made a good choice. I know people don't like HP due to them throttling the performance or something like that when the wattage is too high? I believe the one I got is only 25w but possible to be changed in BIOS to 30w?
I probably should've spent a few hundred more and got the one with the same specs as above but with the gtx 1650 but Im really just dipping my toes into pc gaming at the moment. There's a lot I want to learn before making a big investment. Any feedback is welcome.

My HP model is very simillar to this one (different case texture and color + larger SSD), everything else is the same.
Originally it came with a single 8GB/3200Mhz and one additional free slot, so I added another of the same type by Kingston. It works with no problems or hiccups, but I still don't have installed very demanding game on it.
However on the good old NFS Underground 2 there were some minor slowdowns, when played on battery, which now appear to be gone with the 8+8 GB combo. If you buy RAM always check if it's the same type in order for the dual channel to work properly - DDR4, 8GB, 3200Mhz, preferably by a well-known brand - Kingston, Hyper-X, A-Data. It's like 40-50 EUR in here, no need to risk buying some unknown or incompatible crap.

Have to agree with NeblogaiLT below. I have a 5500U Lenovo and it can do just about EVERYTHING I need it to and do it FAST!
You can play that latest and greatest game forever, but you will do so at a PREMIUM cost. And, when all is said and done. The performance increases are OK but NOT as phenomenal as
most reviewers tell you they are. Meaning? You want a 100% improvement? FORGET ABOUT IT! You want a 50% improvement? Maybe if you pay TOP DOLLAR FOR THE BEST PROCESSOR.
You want a 33% improvement, well that may be the best you get for now. Is that something FANTASTIC? NO! It's really a lot of hype unless you're willing to open the machine up, UP its RAM to the MAX, and overclock the system so that you're almost frying it, lol. But by then, just BUY a regular PC box and build your own why don't you?
For normal humans an AMD six core, 12 thread 5500U with at least 8 GBs of RAM, and best at 16 GBs., will do you. I know it's going to be a few years before I'm looking for the next upgrade.
And WHY might I need one? ONLY for VIDEO, I suspect. Probably have to stream 8K or 16K by then, no?

    • @GrabLifeByDaPoosy
      @GrabLifeByDaPoosy 2 года назад

Look up videos for upgrading HP 15 ram. There's many different model numbers but are still the same internally. Once you remove the screws (some of which are under the adhesive strips on bottom of laptop) use a flat tool to separate the top of the keyboard from the bottom and the ram will be sitting right there on top. You just pop it out and pop the new ones in. Only thing necessary is a phillips head screwdriver for the screws in outer casing of laptop and a flat spudge or other flat tool to help separate the chassis/keyboard. Make sure both sticks of ram are the same size or you won't be able to make use of all of the ram. Say if you have one 8 GB and one 4 GB stick installed you will still only be getting to use 8 GB from what I've read. You won't actually be using 12 GB of RAM even though it's installed. I'm not sure why but if you want to upgrade from 8 GB you need to put in two 8 GB sticks.

All you need is a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws on the bottom of the laptop. A few of them are hiding behind the adhesive strips on the bottom. After that just take a flat tool or spudge to separate the case around where the keyboard is to lift the top part off. Once that's done the ram can be removed just using your fingers and pop the new Ram inside. The nvme SSD and the two channels of ram are right there on top. They only thing needed to be removed access them is just opening up the laptop.

I don't plan on doing anything resource intensive.
With the *HP 15z-ef2000* , I was thinking of going with a Ryzen 5500U hexacore, a 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, 16GB of RAM and WiFi 5 (2x2).
With the *HP Pavilion 15z-eh100* , I'm thinking of going with the Ryzen 5500U hexacore, a 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD ,16GB of RAM and the newer WiFi 6 (2x2) that supports gigabit data rate. The advantage here is that it comes with B&O tuned speakers.
Based on this, which configuration would you go with? I *could* also wait for the Labor Day sale and snag one then, depending on their deals.
As an aside, is it true that the HP Pavilion series of laptops are better in terms of build quality than the regular HP (no name) series of laptops?

How did your purchase turn out?

@@GrabLifeByDaPoosy That's a great deal, if you ask me. I ordered a Dell with Ryzen 5700, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB storage back in September. Other than the screen brightness being only 250 nits and having to tone down the green cast a bit, it's been fine.
