🤣Of all the comments to pin, this is the most.
Snugboy, you just rock...
Real
I agree

Your section at 17:08 is so well-written and full of heart. I've heard a lot of people talk about this game's tragic aspects over the years, but it's also important to acknowledge the message behind Link meticulously mending the hurt that he sees in Termina. Great job, specifically on that section. It's probably the best writing I've heard from you.
Thank you my friend. That means the absolute world to me ♥
Majora’s Mask is the ideal sequel. Doesn’t repeat the original’s success and goes in an entirely different direction despite being in continuity. Just bold as hell.
Hiya guys! It feels SO GOOD to be back talking about my favourite lil franchise ever. If you have any good memories or thoughts or whatever on Majora's Mask, PLEASE LET ME KNOW DOWN BELOW!!! ♥♥♥
Pls more zelda
I have this memory of my best friend playing skyward sword and accidentally hitting my face with the wiimote while fighting that boss which you fight while he is going up. I also have a really good memory when I finished a really tough challenge of no death with 3 blue hearts hero mode in twilight princess which took me 1 month to complete, it felt so good after beating it xD
This video makes me wish I'd been able to play this game; but the limited time mechanic just gave me too much anxiety as a kid so I gave up pretty quickly lol
@@KenderBard it's ok , you can still watch other people play it :)
@@KenderBardou ever gonna give it another try sometime? I’d say it’s worth it! :^D
If you think about the themes, the ending being in a peaceful field with the giant tree makes perfect sense. It's why majora calls you the bad guy and himself the good guy when he gives you the fierce deity's mask. Majora's Mask is, like you said, a game filled with tragedy and suffering. Majora thinks the world is not justified because of this suffering, and wants to end the world with the moon so there won't be any suffering any more. The garden in the moon with the tree is a metaphorical space representing peace and the release of strife. How the world would be without suffering.
This is what makes Link the perfect counter to Majora. He sees first hand the terrible suffering and loss in the land of Termina. But despite the terrible suffering, he says yes to life and chooses to help those in need and connect loved one's with one another.
Majora believes life and existence are evil because of suffering, so aims to end it.
Link protects life and believes existence is justified because love can help us overcome our suffering.
Never seen that interpretation before. I love it! Good stuff.
“Majora’s Mask is about grief, tragedy, sadness, and the darkness of the human experience. But most importantly, it’s about moving on from that darkness, and the important impact that love plays in that process.”
Damn. I knew the writing was great, but you really outdid yourself on this one. Combined with your narration and editing, all the elements came together so phenomenally once again. And despite how serious the game’s narrative is - tackling loneliness, tragedy, loss, grief, love, and healing - you somehow managed to sprinkle in your humour at the _perfect_ times to keep things light before going back to talk about the game’s more serious themes.
I love that you pointed out how the Happy Mask Salesman’s ending dialogue links back to the starting cutscene of the game. And how the moon is this horrifying reminder of Termina’s fate on the outside, yet peacefully serene on the inside… which somehow works in the context of the game and reminds us of how bizarre and dream-like Termina's world ultimately is.
I also loved this line: “They are the personification of the darkness found in grief and sadness, and defeating them is symbolic of how love and kindness and light can conquer even the darkest of times.” What a beautiful way to describe the healing process that we see in the game.
This was so full of heart and, as always, has left me with more than a few things to think about. You’re an incredible storyteller.
I loved this video to bits, and I think it might be your best yet. Thank you for giving me an even deeper appreciation for one of my favourite Zelda titles ❤
I havent played majora's mask sorry i cant help you
@@Snugboy that’s okay but you should go play it, it’s great

@@Snugboy no???
Nice comment
26:00 I did that a long time ago, and to answer the question, yes, you can do all the side quest (if not, the majority of them) and all 4 temples in those three days. Great video Snugboy! Majora is my favorite Zelda till this day
I really liked the Zora swimming, I feel like the worst moments of it were more from the level design that used it than the swimming itself. Swimming like that + tight corridors is admittedly eh, but with precision isn’t that bad.
12:42 There's a reason Anju and Kafei's quest is the only in-town sidequest that made it into the manga, even over the Ranch.
I think Snug got possessed by the muses writing this script, god damn got me in the feels
You actually wrote it in your sleep. I put my laptop on your sleeping corpse and then placed your hands onto the keyboard. You did a really good job, you should be proud.
@@Snugboy damn, I'll have to start collecting that sweet RUclips revenue
I had no idea that the giants could fail to catch the moon! I guess I just never thought to try it.
There is something so charming about the old graphics of the NN64 Zelda's.
Majora's Mask is the Fallout New Vegas of Zelda. It has the best worldbuilding, best characters, and best quests. Thats why its the best zelda ever
I grew up playing Majora's Mask on my GameCube and I grew to really love the game and Zelda as a whole. Majora's Mask 3D came out my freshman year of high school and ever since I've been thoroughly in love with the game, but it always intrigued me from a story perspective. As a kid or even a teenager you can't fully grasp what the story is trying to tell or convey, and it's that air of mystery that had me fall in love with it in hopes of one day understanding it. One or two years ago it finally hit me what the story was truly about and now, as an adult I find it to be very therapeutic. Ocarina of Time concludes with Link, having been sent in the past, losing everything in his life. Ocarina of Time at a glance appears to be a story about a hero saving a corrupted world from an evil man but underneath, it's so much more. Ocarina of Time is a coming of age story of sorts told in a tragic way. Ganondorf acts as a corruptor to the world, but the tragedy of the story isn't what he does to the world and its people, but how what he does affects Link directly, revealing the harsh realities of life to him, and robbing him of his innocence and childhood. In a sense, washing that corruption onto Link's shoulders. In the beginning, he's a child in a man's body, but by the end, Ganondorf has transformed him into a man in a child's body. Link can no longer return to his past life and regain his lost time, he is now burdened with adult responsibilities as The Hero of Time, and everything and everyone he once knew is no longer there. Majora's Mask draws a lot of parallels to Buddhism, and it's in those parallels that things make a lot of sense in the story. Based on what I have researched, Buddism is based on the idea that life is a never ending cycle of suffering, death, and rebirth, and the end goal of Buddism is to end that cycle by defeating ignorance and finding peace. The 3 day cycle acts as a parallel to that, and by helping people, understanding the world, and everything in it Link is defeating his own ignorance, with his deeds acting as good karma as he ends the people's suffering. At 18:58 you make an interesting observation I've never thought of, that it may be a place for lost souls to go to. I've always interpreted the story as Termina is a place that is constructed in order to contextualize Link's grief and loss into something that he can understand, in order to confront and combat those feelings directly. Link understands killing demons and helping people, and everything you see happen throughout the story could be relatable to Link, with these people and demons being metaphorical representations of his feelings, helping him accept his loss and place in the world as well as find himself. People often talk about the darkness of the story in Majora's Mask but I think people often overlook what that darkness really means. There are real world reasons for that darkness, stress during development led to nightmares and unusual ideas being put in the game, but I think the developers masterfully put that darkness into something that makes sense within the context of the story. As I mentioned before, Link doesn't really know who he is. He asks himself things like what makes him happy, if that will make others happy too, if his real face is really a mask, and so on. There's no darker feeling than the feeling of uncertainty, and I think this game masterfully depicts that feeling with its world. By the end he is able to find peace but Twilight Princess shows that he never was able to find true peace, having died with regret, and it gives you this sense that he didn't truly get over his loss, just learned to live with it. To me, Majora's Mask is therapeutic because we've all been in dark places where we have lost things, or felt uncertain about ourselves or the future, and playing through this story, I feel can help understand and move on from those feelings in our own lives.
Man that calling the giants song is sooo atmospheric. This game has one of the best ost’s ever in my opinion
Majora's mask and twilight princess are probably my top 2 in the series. Both are just so dark and feel so personal.
Majoras Mask especially just feels so real, despite maybe even not being a real place.
i love your zelda videos so much, especially twilight princess. it feels like sitting down with a childhood friend and reminiscing about a game you played together a decade ago. this is especially impressive given the fact that zelda isn't even a nostalgia series for me, i first played botw at age 19! you balance legitimate media analysis with humor and pure childlike joy and it's so in tune with the zelda games themselves. amazing work ❤️
I absolutely loved Majora's Mask as a kid. It was my favorite for a little while there. The structure, the time-traveling gimmick and the way that the side quests were handled make it one of the most unique and memorable Zelda games. And, man, what a trippy final boss.
Gonna watch this in about a week to continue my tradition of missing the actual upload date and then remembering later on. I'll enjoy this in the gym.
lmao
You are going to make this website explode if you put out too many bangers my guy. Nah but seriously man it always feels like such a privilege to sit through a brand new Snugboy video! I’ll never not be entertained by your oh so authentic voiceover, whether it’s a joke or you conveying the story’s themes, you always give it 110%. The editing was super smooth as always, but this video found a great balance in between that signature Snugboy style, and a pace that suited the tone of Majora. Every frame felt intentional and absolutely complimented the already eloquent script. You managed to take a deep dive into such a heavy game, while still being concise and evidently having large respect for the viewer’s time and intelligence. Can’t wait to see what you cook up next! ❤️🔥
You are literally the best man. Thank you SO much for always having my back and saying the nicest things ever. Means a lot from you KING
Ayy!! It has been a bit since you last made a video on Zelda. Can’t wait to watch!
I was 10 when Ocarina of Time came out, and my brothers and I pooled our money together to rent it for Christmas break. We loved it to pieces, and my younger brother and I spent most of the break trying to figure out how to get into Dodongo’s Cavern. Fast forward to the release of Majora’s Mask and my oldest brother mistakenly got my younger brother and I Majora instead of OoT, since none of us knew there was a new Zelda for the N64. We were disappointed that it wasn’t OoT, but we still played, because it was Zelda. This game confused, and beat the snot out of me, so it’s the only main-line 3D Zelda I’ve never beaten. I’m intimidated by it, but your review makes me want to give it a try.
I’ve always been a casual gamer, so I’m not very good at games, so that’s kept me from returning to finally beat Majora, but maybe this year, thanks to this review. I’ll finally give it another go. Maybe.
Majora's Mask is good and Snugboy videos are good so if we put them together its peak content
Average Aero video >>>>>> Peak Snugboy video
something I really like about majora's mask is that there's a constant feeling of dread throughout the entire game. Makes me anxious but in a good way, almost like a horror movie. I never actually completed the Romani Ranch side quest, I'm not very good at using the bow and arrow, and Cremia getting so devastated by what happens to Romani upset me so much I had to stop playing it for a while, it feels so real.
I really like listening to the Theophany remix of the majora's mask soundtrack. I would especially recommend their clocktown remix.
Great video as always man!! You've made me really want to replay the game!
I've only ever watched you play this game as it scared the *** out of me as a kid so I love hearing you talk about it. This video is like nostalgic memories I never made. I love it, so good, thank you ❤
16:45 is comedy gold lmao 🤣
Finally, Snugboy has covered my favorite Zelda!
just for you ❤️
Just magnificent, Snugboy. Another masterful blend of spoofy humor, unabashed fandom, and deeper analysis.
The Twilight Princess shoutouts were adorably fun, especially for me since I'm a sucker for that game too... though, to be straight with you, you arguably crossed a couple spoiler lines there, which made me wince for Twilight newbs... Maybe a warning?
But again, this stuff is just gold. I really appreciate the way you demonstrate the strength of Majora Mask's structural and literary profundity (while being honest about how the gameplay itself compares).
Eh. She's in Smash, and Page 2 of the Manga, and all over Rule 34 😏
Dude it 2am. I need sleep but I also need your vibes
Majoras Mask means so much to me. It really tells the story of the whole town and not just the main characters. Every single character feels alive and unique. I’ve never played a game that had better npcs than Majoras Mask
This WAS my favourite gane of all time, until Bloodborne, i guess still favorite childhood game. Its incredible
I just found you because of the Twilight princess (
Oh my god that is so lovely and nice thank you so much!!
loved this game so much i named myself after one of the characters. i had always loved it when i was little but i finally played it myself at a formative time and it changed my brain chemistry
I played this game for the first time on the 3ds and I immediately fell in love. I might just have to play restoration in order to fall in love all over again.
Thanks for creating another banger analysis about a game I thought I heard every interpretation of before. Cremia may be one of my favorite Zelda NPCs. Like, every aspect of her life is so tragic. Most tragic of all is how Kafei fleeing after being turned into a child makes Anju’s family think he ran off with Cremia because she had a crush on Kafei; making every time she goes into town even more painful than realizing the man she loves is essentially destined to be with someone else. That, and think of how isolated she is ALL the time. She has Romani, but she can hardly vent to her about any actual adult problems. The Gormon Bros. are breaking milk bottles and terrorizing her cows and are the closest thing she has to neighbors (aside from the dog racing lady and grog but to my knowledge they never mention Cremia). It’s so horribly sad… More than any other character I just want to know that she finds someone to confide in after the events of the game.
A-anyways, sorry for the ramble, and thanks for the quality video🙏
WOAH I didn't know any of that. That is so tragic and I wish I knew it beforehand I totally would've included it. WOW!! Thank you for adding depth to my favourite character.
This is my favorite Zelda and favorite game

The balance you struck with this video was really great! It’s awesome to see you try a slightly different tone
The dynamic range being smaller, the more serious tone, the occasional jokes thrown in, it was wonderful!

This video hits every single reason of why I love Majora's Mask so absolutely. It is such an amazing experience from front to back, and when I hear someone talk about what it gave them, and what they took from it, it makes my day every time. Excellent video as always!!
thank you for another fantastic and well written video, snug :) i never played majora’s mask as a kid because the moon scared the shit out of me, but i’m happy i got to in my late teens, and you summarized everything i loved about it and way more

"There's no Triforce," when clearly showing the Triforce on Link's shield.
Such a beautiful and impactful video my friend.
You really went all the way to explain what makes Majora’s Mask so special and the ways the player makes them learn about the strong senses of love and grief, to help those around you that felt in the despair of the end of everything.
Pretty amazing job.
Finally another snugboy video
Loved the video dude, keep up the amazing work
Oh Snugdaddy, your videos bring all the joy!

Amazing video! Keep going
One time skull kid downloaded Twitter and became obsessed with it, renamed the game to Majoras Musk and now you had to stop his evil plans by going into the dungeons to tank the value of Dogecoin and stop the self-driving teslas that have been hitting people in Termina all week.
Link paid his $8 leave him alone
I've tried to save everyone. I thought I'd just do all of the dungeons first and that would make everything better. Then I went to get the seahorse and the fisherman wasn't there. Had to do that BEFORE the Great Bay Temple.
A new Snug video? About Majora's Mask? Staaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhp.
So, tell me if you heard this one before, but I'm baffled that you don't have more subscribers because your scripts are so full of passion, your jokes and editing are top notch and every single video you make is so charming in their own way! Thanks for your work, super happy that RUclips recommended me your channel. I'll be here for the long haul for sure!
This is the sweetest thing ever thank you 😭❤️
Let's not forget that this game also served as the basis for the best Creepypasta there ever has been: 'Ben Drowned.'
Great video overall I just finished it I can tell you poured your heart in soul into it. I will say I always stand on the boat that Majora's mask looks better with the old graphics. I just think that the remake makes the game way too colorful and makes all creepiness and sadness go away imo. But anyway idk why I broke off into that lol. Loved the video and I hope you continue to make videos on whatever you are passionate about. I'll be here to see what you do next have an amazing day 💚
You are a real one thanks man ❤
I feel like we definitely need a 3rd game in the hero of time timeline. Just to see him at his peak at an older age than he is in OOT. I always thought it was odd how link fell helplessly in between song of time cutscenes & how crazy it would look to see him calmly transitioning through time because he’s been doing it for so long. A Zelda game where your main form of advancing area to area is time traveling would be so good
Haha i luv this video :D
Thx for time on your discord
Cu in Hyrule :)
Great video. Majora's Mask is easily one of the best games ever made. I hope that we're going to get a proper remake which respects the original one day. The 3DS version sadly was a clownfiesta. In that regard, I have to disagree with you on Zora Link. Swimming as Zora Link - especially with infinite Magic thanks to Chateau Romani - was amazing. Movement in general was amazing in Majora's Mask and certainly a major evolution from Ocarina of Time. In fact, I actually prefer this over movement a la Breath of the Wild.
Like I've said: I do hope we'll get a proper remake sometime. I'm growing tired of giant open worlds and would much rather prefer a semi open world title which is as close as possible to the older Zelda games (especially the "Hero of Time" trilogy).
I had that same thought about the cuckoo sweetheart in kakariko village when I first played
this needs more views
Hey snugboy u probably wouldn't do a video on it but why not tell us a comparison of your favorite two games. My two favorite zelda games are finish cap and twilight princess I guess finish cap because nostalgia it being my first game ever
majoras mask is my favorite game of all time, i was 10 wen i started playing it and took me 2 years to beat it, you may think thats too much but the thing is that the game was in english and im from argentina 😅... and once again i was 10, so i play it with a english to spanish dictionary by my side, stuck as a deku for months until i finally got knoledge enough on the lenguage to beat the game, but i play it so hard that i kinda tear up a little hearing you talk cuz i remember all that, every single interaction, every single schedule (BTW you cant help everyone cuz the hand in the toilet needs a paper and you need those to get the deku flowers)... anyways rou remind me of some old friends i use to have wen i was a nerd kid that didnt go to the playgrounds on recess and prefer to stay and read, thanks for that
This video is spot on lol
One of your shorts brought me here!
It's funny, I have the complete opposite opinion regarding the visuals between the original and the 3DS.
How does this only have 20k views???
I will die on this hill, but the starting shield in MM is the best designed and best looking shield in the series...
Also also, it makes me sad when you get the *spoilers*!!
Mirror shield in ikanna canyon, and it permanently replaces the starting shield. Sad days.
Another banger (haven't watched yet)
Noice!
thank you ab b
Way to build off of the Game Theorists video for a more complex breakdown. Really good stuff!
I've never been able to beat this game, I look forward to trying again on the switch soon, but, honeslty... like most zelda games, I found the actual gameplay sorta boring, it was the actual story that captivated me, and the characters
I have fond memories of playing this game as a child, leading the dogs around and being scared of the great fountain fairy, who, is still pretty scary, in both this game, and breath of the wild... they're all scary
But Majora's mask is just such an interesting game to look back on, as frustrating as it was with its three day time limit, it's not like a lot of other games I've played before... the central plot focuses on saving everyone, yes, but the STORY is focused around grief, and loss, and the weight of those feelings we carry with us.
It's a very special game for me because of that, I've played quite a few games in my time, although I'm sure others have played many more than I ever have, but most games... They focus on the plot only, the stories are action based and fast paced gameplay, but Majora's mask didn't do that. I mean, it did, but it held something more over its players, something heavier, something a lot of people could probably relate to. The music was also fantastic, only rivaled by Windwaker's soundtrack in my honest opinion
When the remake just released my friend and I worked together to beat it (Although he did most of the work) but there is so much about the game I missed (A lot of that because I didn't do much) I have revisited it a few times since then but I keep having my playthroughs end because of difficulty, technical issues, and loss of interest. I'll definitely have to get serious about beating it and perhaps 100% sometime in the future. If I go with 100% I wonder if it would be unenjoyable to use a guide for some parts.
I played this game with a guide
The Zelda Dungeon guide is fantastic. Highly recommended, goes over everything.
@@SaberRexZealot Thank you for the recommendation
It isn't possible to do every side quest and every dungeon in one cycle, some side quests affect others or at least happen at the same time.
Yeah this game is an absolute masterpiece. Its insane that they really only made this in less than two years. Hope to see the 3ds version on switch someday. Actually looks pretty good when you upscale it
I have to admit, I never liked MM as a child.
Now as a 31 yo adult, I've watched many walkthroughs and praise videos and........ still don't like it 😅🙈 I'm really sorry.
But I enjoyed your video a lot. Btw, your Twilight Princess video (which is my favourite Zelda game) is one of my all time favourite Zelda videos on this platform. I come back to it often.
It's a boy! A Snug Boi
I agree that some changes with the 3ds were dumb (like the ice arrows wtf is up with that). But I would say most of them were for the better. Great Bay temple is a highlight of the game for me, because with the new zora controls it is so much more easy and fun to navigate (although I would have made it a toggle between fast and slow swimming instead of draining magic). Also, the inverted song of time provides a bit more challenge without being too punishing (there were times where I just barely finished a dungeon with an hour on the clock and had to go back to Clock Town super quickly to save the ruppees or go see the great fairy, the adrenaline was pumping. Not so much with the original, more relaxed time constraint). The eyeballs I really don't care, if anything it gives more lore to the bosses, they are corrupted by majora so they have this charactetistic majora eyeball, gameplay-wise it doesn't really change much. The new boss phases, bomber notebook, FISHING MINIGAME and QoL improvements in general make the 3ds the definitive version for me, and I'm dying on this hill! Project restoration is an amazing project tho, just I don't think that is needed if you don't want to emulate/mod your console
Also amazing video ❤
Never understood the hate for the 3ds remake.
You like time travel? Do you like Sonic '06 right? It's still my favorite story in the series.
What if I can't feel love? What then?
Ocarineer of time
Where is the scene from 22:26 from???
You are the FIRST person to ask!!! It’s the ganon beast pig fight in the castle at the end but I used cheats on Dolphin to fly above the barrier and be next to Zelda :)
Wow cool. I knew I had never seen Zelda sitting on the throne like that. Thanks for answering! 😅
I literally just traded my copy of Majora’s mask on 3ds, and I think my phone was listening and is trying to make me feel bad. But Ion have a 3ds anymore, so……..
1:32 I know I am 😔
I agree with you so much I love everything in this game besides the gaming part if that makes sense. I don’t like the dungeons and bosses, the gameplay is average and having a treasure hunt while having a limited time is so frustrating ( I had to redo an entire dungeon because I lacked a single fairy and my time had run out. But everything else was so good.
