I just got a 97 t100 and was really curious about the vacuum operated 4wd. Your video was the first one I clicked on and I’ll say how informational it was. You made it extremely simple to understand thank you.

So simple but no one ever mentioned just dropping the drive shaft to make that CV assembly looser to get out. 👍

Great video! My '90 4Runner was recently not engaging in 4WD after I had installed the manual locking hubs. Turns out I had the vacuum lines criss crossed by accident! Once I switched the lines, the 4WD worked perfect as it should! This video helped me see and understand how the vacuum line system engages the 4WD on an auto locking hub vehicle. Thanks for sharing!

Ummmmm....... The vacuum li es are to engage the AUTO locking. Why would you need them if you do manuals? (Huge mistake IMO. Auto lockers for LIFE!!!)

@@Syrus54 Because I don't want the constant wear and tear of my CV Axles spinning non-stop when I don't need 4WD.

my vacum accuator was busted so i made it manual with a rod going tru the floor in the passenger under the dash location,. a small plate with a couple of pivot points at the accuator location and a lever ( conected to the rod inside the cab) ,.. so when i twist the rod it pushs or pull on the shaft whitch the vacum diafram is hooked on too.

I'm about to watch the video. I plan on swapping one tons soon. So I didn't want to spend money on locking hubs. But I recently installed Chevy engine and driveline. I thought about wiring up the vacuum system from switch inside cab for now to activate front diff. Right now all vacuum stuff is removed. But I still have the servos... Does anyone have a good diagram showing how it works so I can hotwire it. Theres only two tubes that come from the actual diff but there was also a canister under the wheel well etc...

you must have figured out front is 7.5" rear is 8" so you can not put rear gears in front? not seen any replies to this to tell that:)other then that, good video

Very good video, I own a 1991 Toyota pickup V6 4x4. Stumbled upon your videos when searching about 3vze turbo stuff. Pretty cool that you actually did it, even if it didn't last. I do all sorts of work on mine, 315,00 miles and counting! Love those trucks and I was just wondering about the front axle vacuum stuff. Keep the content coming! Any plans for the engine in that truck?

    • @Syrus54
      @Syrus54  7 лет назад +1

You mean, Any plans for the 3VZE? not really. It's been a great engine, and I'm gonna run it until it finally quits.
Then I'll probably do a Rebuild video, and run it for another 1/2 million miles.
But if you mean Horsepower-wise... No. Nothing for atleast the next few years.

my 4x4 '94 22RE 5-speed pickup bucks when I put it in 4wd. makes me wonder if one of the previous owners swapped the gear ratio on the front or the rear and left them mismatched. according to the vin sticker axle code, it says it's supposed to be a 4.10 ratio. guess it's time to count some wheel & driveshaft rotations then throw down some simple division.

If you had to remove the driveline to turn the axle 4wd is engaged is it not? Liking your video so far I too couldn't find any info on this system.

    HELP
    !!!! I just got a 98 4Runner with only
140K. Can someone point me in the right direction in
resolving my 98 4Runner issue? When I engage 4H it goes in silent but when it
goes back to 2H (disengage) there is a loud bang (like a sled hammer bang). After
depressing the 4WD (4H to 2H) there is a delay for about 30 second before it disengages
as I drive down the road below 25mph. The 4wd light indicator goes on when I
press the button and it goes off with a bang returning to 2H, the light never
blinks. Can anyone help me troubleshoot what to look at to solve the hard
disengagement with my 4WD? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
