2000 4runner here. Daily driven and not gently. Love her and would absolutely get another one. Reliable as the morning sun has never once left me stranded for any reason solid and gets better mpg than the epa expectations.
Reliable as the morning sun is exactly why they don’t make them like that anymore. They want it to break down in 5 years. That generation Tacomas and 4Runners are some of the best vehicles ever made.
Love it man! I have a similarly bare bones '09 regular cab, 5 speed, 4wd 2.7 Taco. Have had it now for 7 years now and as I approach 170k miles, it has been nothing but a joy to drive. Aside from a wheel bearing, it's been nothing but routine maintenance that I do in my garage. Love the 90's graphics.. Great honest review, keep truckin!
Got a 94 2.8 diesel 4 runner. 406km It get's driven around New Zealand roads and tracks everyday. Still runs like clockwork. Wouldnt change it for anything. Best motor vehicle ever made.
I'm surprised the petrol 22RE engines are so common in the usa and not the diesel 2L and 3L engine which are what people opt for mainly here in NZ. I run a 88 LN65 with a 2.4 2L diesel almost daily, they just go and go if the body doesn't rust out first.
I have a 93 Toyota pickup 4WD 22RE engine that I only use to haul things and have owned it for 10 years, drive it just now and then. I recently had to replace the alternator, other than that I replaced the fuel pump, I thought it was bad but turned out mice chewed the wires, replaced it anyway since I already went through the process of dropping the tank. This truck has 190k miles on it and runs like a beast, as soon as I turn the key it fires right up. I love this little truck
I had to replace the fuel pump/fuel gauge unit in my 95 Toyota because the fuel line rusted out an inch from the gas tank 8 years ago. When that happens the only good repair is to replace the whole fuel pump/fuel gauge assembly.
Daily drive an 89. They are great. Mine has 264k miles on it. Just about to put a new motor in it. If you are really worried about theft get a steering hub quick release and an aftermarket wheel.
@@hunterthehondarider2189 yep. Chase down the cable from the dash to the transmixer. Remove it from transmixerator notice dick is broken off. Replace cable with new speedo dick. Vroom vroom. The miles will go up tho so you can’t lie if you sell.
92 Pickup. 245,000 miles. Had it now for 20 years. Bulletproof. Only the shocks have been replaced in the suspension and steering. Tracks straight and rides well. All the bushings are in decent shape. Converted to R134. Not the best in Summer Florida but it gets the job done.
Best cars that I ever had, I have 3 ‘87 4Runner, and one 1992 4x4 extra cab. Love each one of them. Been all over California, Baja California Mx. Mexico’s main land, Utah etc. never have and issue.
I recently bought a one owner 1990 with 158,000 22re. Been steadily replacing parts. Drug it out of a backyard where it had been sitting dead for a couple years. Now that it’s running, I took it on a 450+ mile trip last weekend and it did fine. It’s definitely not gonna break any land speed records but it’s “fun” to drive. If your spine can handle it.😂
Tbh being 21 owning this truck is pretty dope, can haul shit and save gas, easy to fix too sadly my generation will never understand buying into reliable cars
There’s still a few of us around. 27. 2000 Camry with 183,xxx. Wife drives a base model 4Runner. Recently rebuilt a 22re in a pickup that I now regret selling. You could say I’m a classic Toyota fanboy.
Brooo I do am 19 , rn I chose to buy an 89 Toyota pickup cause my uncle drives one and he says their engines are indestructible and also cause I work in construction with my dad , I still have money left and saved , am chillin don’t get me wrong, but my original goal was to get a 2018 camaro 2ss
I still have the same Toyota I bought in ‘02, “it’s a unicorn..” 4x4 Extcab, I’ve fixed all the cons, SAS, gears, a/c. An I love it.. I get just about the same amount of compliments as my vintage showchevy, You have your new car, mines paid for !!! Lol..😂
Nothing but plusses in my book! I bought an 84 Nissan Pickup 2WD, short bed and cab in 1990 to go to aviation mainenance school. I daily drove it until June 2020. With an exhaust header and a Weber carb conversion I went from 22-24 mpg to over 30 mpg! It had no A/C but I bought a parts truck that did and swapped it over. I still use it every few days, it' just too fun to not drive it.
@@TravisTutorial The original tailgate said Nissan in big stamped letters and had a Datsun sticker in the lower corner. It's got over 3 or 400K miles now. I rebuilt the engine about 100K ago but it really didn't need it. I went back with all standard bearings and rings using the original pistons, and it had 2 bad exhaust valves. It's quite fast with the carb and header.
@@TravisTutorial The 84 was called the 720 pickup. 720 kilograms. Better than a 3/4 ton American truck. With six lug nuts, huge wheel bearings, and huge brakes it can pretty much do anything. Safely with no body bags, no ABS, and no real comfort. Yes, a good soldier. Not likely to retire anytime soon. It's still a blast on local mountain roads. Feels like a sport car when unloaded.
I bought an 87 pup longbed a decade ago with 36k on it. It is my ready reserve if my commuter goes down. Far more spartan than the mid 90s no power steering, cable counter lever clutch and carburetor. Geared for 55mph national speed limit. I put out a wtb for an alternator, starter, distributer on a forum and paid $100 shipped. Replaced my starter and repaired the contacts on the original. The thing I get the biggest kick out of is loading 8 foot product at the hardware store while the suburbanite struggles with a five foot bed on a fifty thousand dollar truck. Story time, I went a hundred miles out for a truck cap and a caliper locked up. I manually released the caliper and screwed a bolt in the brake line to block it off and drove one hundred miles home.
I have a 92 4x4 Toyota pickup truck its my best friend, we like going off-roading and going over curbs like nothing , doing donuts, and down shifting when needed (I maintain it to be at its best fyi)
I have a '96 Taco that I've had ten years. I don't drive it daily but I do drive the hell out of it and use it for loads way heavier than it was meant for several times. Keeps coming back for more!
'94 2wd base w/5 speed and 22re. One belt for alternator, period. Rides super smooth (the shell and bed contents help a lot) and I've gotten 40 mpg on the highway. Usually 35 though. I bought it new in '93 and it's got over 300k now. Replaced the timing chain at 195k and it's still quiet. You can hear when the chain starts to touch the cover; you get plenty of warning. My truck has been super reliable and relatively cheap to maintain. I wish they still made them like this!
I make $200k a year and I’m still driving my 2007 FJ cruiser with 230k miles. I travel the nation for work with it and have a mounted RTT. All my coworkers drive gawdy pick ups and they all say “bro get something new, you can afford it, get out of the old POS” 😂 I’m happy they have new trucks but my Yota is still purring not a payment in the world! If I do get something else it probably be a right hand drive land cruiser from the 90s
Right on! I dig it, and FJ Cruiser is pretty much perfection, it's basically an investment with how much the hold their value. Share a similar dream of a RHD 80 Series Land Cruiser, maybe a Turbo Diesel variant
I can't speak personally as a buyer from them, but I bet you'd like Duncan Imoorts, they have the RHD stuff you want in the USA ready to go. Not like other websites that say they can get anything and have nothing.
I’ve been driving a 92’ 2wd for over 20 yrs. No PS no A/C, Vinyl seats. I have hauled bricks, dirt, bark, garbage , yard waste truck squatting all the way. Only problem I’ve had is with the cooling system. (Aftermarket parts)👎 and the timing chain replaced. Everything else just oil changes. Still is my old friend
It's all relative - try living with a modern Ram 2500 HD 4 door - that's long! I'm getting a 92 extra cab 4x4 sr5, it's so tiny! Like I said, it's all relative, huge compared to my Macan Turbo. I appreciate your video and thank you for posting it. All the best.
Miss my 85 tin can with a sewing machine under the hood. Drove mine at 65 below zero in Fairbanks --the little 4-banger took forever to warm up until the heat finally crawled out of the vents. Even so wish I still had it.
I have a 1988 SR5 4x4 Extra Cab 3.0 Liter 6 with 336, 000 miles on it, and it still runs great. No major issues ever with the engine, or transmission. I have owned it for so long I can't remember when I bought it ! I think I was born owning it. Best investment I ever made. You can not beat those old Toyotas !
I got rid of a low mile 98 Avalon for a 94 108K 2wd Xtracab 22re 5 spd. The truck goes down the road better than the Avalon and is the most fun to drive rig I've ever owned. Made in Japan. I've made a lot of improvements and it just gets better and better.
My 1992 SR5 can drive itself anywhere. It's got a very light and easy steering wheel, light accelerater and brakes. All I ever do is sit in the driver seat and the truck just takes me to my destination with no effort on my part. The design of this truck is part genius and part alive.
Looking at a 1994 with 422k miles on it this weekend. Dude is selling it for $3000 and it looks decent, kind of more interested in it simply because of how many miles it has on it lol. Hoping it drives nice and we can make a deal, been looking for a ‘23 Tacoma for a few months but there’s a crazy shortage and whatever is in stock is just too expensive. Not many SR5’s available for the average joe either.
I have an 02 Tacoma 2WD, single cab base model with the 5spd. I bought it for $4200 2 years ago. Like yours mine has been nothing short of a pleasure to own and drive. It's also funny because my truck has no intermittent wipers as well. But it's something I just got used to.
I own a 92 RWD with the 22RE. Basically, it's my forever truck. I'd like to drive it for another 25 years if I can find the parts to keep it running. It hits the perfect balance between utility, simplicity, and comfort for me.
That truck will run forever! Pops has a 2004 tundra with 350k on it and it still sounds smooth! Looks rough though because its a work truck and sits in the sun all day!! Go Toyota!
Toyotas are bulletproof, in my opinion, this one no exception. Not a comparison, but my truck is a 20 year old Ranger that is chugging strong. I dote over maintenance. The body's in great shape. It's true, *good* used vehicles are at a premium now and I get notes left on my ranger 3-4 times a year asking if I'll sell.... I'm sure you get the same on your toyota, and I hope youve resisted the urge to let her go. If you did, you'd get remorse and then go to find a replacement...very rare success.
Oh yes, I once had someone chase me across a grocery store parking lot asking me if I would sell! I also had someone knock on my door because there was a new car parked behind the truck and they wanted to know if I would sell "because I clearly bought a newer car". I know if I let it go I'd never be able to get another at a reasonable price, so I plan on keeping it!
I daily drive a 99 4runner limited I’m 20 and currently in college Every time I pull up the parking lot at school I can assure my car is the oldest one in the lot and some people always stare but i dont care. A guy a actually asked me what year it was and was surprised to know these 4runners are from the late 90s seems to think a lot of people assume they’re older just by looks which in my opinion I do enjoy it
I have owned a 1988 Toyota pick up single cab long bed 22 RE for 23 years replaced head gasket runs like a champ most reliable vehicle ever owned easy driving automatic four-speed No major issues crank and go
@@Miles-wy1zr Yes I’ve changed it three times in intervals up to almost 300,000 miles really pretty low mileage vehicle the transmission is absolutely perfect I enjoy this truck so much I’d rather drive it then the other two much newer vehicles it’s just seems personalized somehow
@@mikekelley5033 I just got a 94 but I’m nervous of changing it out. Fluid is brown and dirt but not burnt. 158k miles. Shifts okay for a 30 year old truck. Just notice is a small little jerk going from 1st to 2nd gear.
Thanks for the video! I just subscribed. Would love to hear another update. If you still have it at this point it would be 6 year update. Would also love to hear, what you would do different if you were going to buy another old truck or advising a friend !
Oh nice! Thanks for subscribing. I still have the truck it has continued to be a good friend to me. There is definitely more to talk about, I just got a quote to fix the R12 A/C system which was really expensive, there are a lot of things that have "minor wear" like the outer tire rods, mild seepage from the timing cover, etc. Nothing that is a deal breaker that keeps me from driving it, but something that you wouldn't be able to see easily if you were buying it on Marketplace/Craigslist
Very helpful. I have a 1994 SR5 4X4 with the extended cab and a V6 with 370,000 miles. About ready to rebuild. You guessed it --head gasket and loss of compression. (I think I am running on four of the six cylinder at this point!) :-) My only comment about the 6 vs the 4 cylinder is that the six is kind of tight in that engine compartment. Thank you for sharing your observations and experiences!
I'm driving a 1990 Extra Cab DLX. Manual transmission, RWD, AC was converted a few years ago and blows cold while on the highway but not at idle. It still has the original radio. There's no clock radio so when the truck is off, there is zero draw from the battery. It has 147K, as my father, who purchased it new, quit driving in 2016 or so. I'm in Missouri, so it does have some rust. It was rear ended last month so the bed is two inches shorter on the driver's side. I replaced the bezel and plan to continue driving it. Repairing or replacing the bed just isn't feasible. The tailgate won't open now, but I never haul anything anyway.
I had one of these for 7 years, petrol, oil and filters, one set of tyres. The only repair was a recon radiator for Australian $165. Daughter drove it into a tree, both of us walked away, and still drove the 300 km home. Now I have two Toyota utes/pick ups.
i have a 94 yota pick , i paid $1000 for , they thought the motor needed major work turns out it was the plastic timing chain guards that broke and was clicking around, my friend the mechanic and I replaced the guards with new metal guards for $50 plus the cost of the parts, I blew the head gasket coming from down in the valley tubing down the river but coming back up a steep mountain with some switch back curves the coolant hose came lose out of the reservoir so it wasn't circulating so after about an hour it started to really get hot , I made it to the AutoZone and bought a new hose since mine was down in the bottom of the reservoir I added coolant once it cooled down and drove home no issues, well,,, about a week later it started the overheating intermittently so I knew it was either a wrapped head or a head gasket since everything else was working fine and I had some white smoke coming from the exhaust in the heat of summer,,, did the compression test and gas leak test and yes it was the head gasket ,, I chose to just purchase a refurbed machined head instead of sending mine out , I got a deal since I gave the folks at the m,machine shop my old head ,,, replaced the gasket and the head ,,,, not a single issue out of the truck since,,, and had it not been for my mistake of loosening the hose under the res cap when checking the fluids before going on my adventure that day then I wouldn't have a story to tell ,,,needless to say it was my fault and this truck is my favorite vehicle to drive ,, if I was in a jam and had to pick a vehicle to no leave me stranded and to be guaranteed to start every single time I turn the key (even when its over heating) it would be my 1994 Toyota pickup 22re
Before I had my truck I had a isuzu trooper and I was follow from i-5 near Albany by a state trooper into Jefferson, after my dad and I came out from the mini market the trooper came over and started questioning us and said another trooper radioed to him that I had passed him going over 85 miles an hour. This Isuzu had 33's a roof rack, big bulky brush guard, and a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder, the fastest I ever got it and this is after I fixed things including upgrading the exhaust was 74 miles an hour down hill. You should delete the emissions on this truck, it would really increase your engines performance. I've completely rebuilt this engine and they're very simple to do, even the timing chain is easy to do. Just don't be mad about the situation and everything goes together smooth.
I daily drive my 1997 Toyoya Hilux and l have owned it for about 4 years firstly its a rear wheel drive single cab with an aluminum tray manual with working air conditioning non working cruuse control these were optional extras and has done 432000 kilometers l live in Australia and it is tge Australian model made in Japan as for the 22R engine it is fine the cam chain hasn't stretched at all l have replaced the whole exhaust system four new tyres major service front disc pads new radiator new valve cover gasket new fuel lines from the tank to the filter the carburetor is original has not been removed it works very well replaced the plug leads rotor button and distributor cap and l paid aud $1500 for it registered and running and my test drive was from Newcastle N,S.W to my home in the outer southwestern suburb of Sydney no problem a two and half hour drive also as a ute it has had an easy life just recently l changed all three universal joints only one was bad but to future proof it l changed all three and in Australia mine is worth aud $5000 to $6000 and the configuration it is is the most sort after buyers want them for a work vehicle with the drop side aluminum tray l am retired now was a courier and you pointed out that the harsh ride l agree with you on that especially mine with its aluminum tray my Toyota wife doesn't like riding in it we have another vehicle a four cylinder hatch back my wife prefers riding it that by the way l saw a 1997 Toyota Hilux ute sell for aud $ 10000 less kilometers than mine and resprayed red but not the engine bay and seen one sell for aud $500 it had done 980000 kilometers they are extremely reliable and us Australians reconise that
if someone removed the belt from the AC compressor usually it means that its kaput, the clutch may not be working an its seized so they took the belt off as a simple work around. if thats the case it may be worth more to try and get the compressor from an R134a model and change the rest of the system to 134
Good stuff. I own a Toyota truck too. 2003 Tacoma 4 cylinder. You’re fortunate that you have some auto tech skills. $1500.00 for 3 years of ownership = approx $1.38 a day. This why I own two Toyotas
I had someone knock on my door last fall because someone had parked behind me in my driveway and they assumed I had upgraded and would be ready to sell ! Maybe someday, but not today!
I still drive my 1983 toy four by four I bought new in July 1983 for $8295.00. this has been a great truck. Had to replace the engine at 233,000 because a oil change place put the wrong oil in it. I put a used engine in it that had 20,000 on it. Betsy has been a great truck!!
Also, you do not have to convert your r12 system to run r134a.... Just buy the fittings for $15... I have put r134a in over a dozen different r12 systems and it works fine.
How could you tell f the leaves are bad? I was super fortunate by having my grandfather pass down his 1993 toyPU single cab to me. I would love to fix it up the leaves if they are indeed bad but am unable to determine if they are
@@pcngo1 so the only way you’re going to be able to determine if the springs are worn are to remove them and inspect them. Honestly being almost 40 years old, I’d change the shocks and the springs. It’ll ride like brand new.!!!

I don't know wtf heavy or precise mean in this context. It's not a race car. The turning radius sucks. You have to crank the wheel a ton to max out that crappy turning radius. I love it though. I'm 6'1 with a long torso and have no headroom issues.

Install the Jersey Jockstrap to it to prevent theft. 😂 Love the truck. I live on a dirt road and drive a 2008 4runner. I have a fire pit, gun range and a German Shepard, so that would be a great truck for light work. The dog loves the electric back window in the 4RUNNER. I forgot to mention, the weather strips for these beaters are a pretty cheap and easy necessity. Totally worth it. Those old Toyotas used good steel. You have to work pretty hard at getting one to rust.
He didn't mention the #1 issue with the interior on these reg cab trucks. LACK OF SPACE!!!! No room to store ANYTHING in the cab if you have a passenger. On my 1993 2wd I put a 3 piece folding tonneau cover(stupid expensive for what it was IMO) that was pretty easy to remove. Carpeted some spare plywood to make a partition that sat between the wheel wells so I could use the bed as a dry trunk and not have stuff flying around/lose something up near the cab with the cover on. Also 2wd 22-RE/5 speed trucks get excellent gas mileage. I drove mine at 80mph and beat it like a rented mule, it averaged 25mpg.
Hey, my other ride is 10 broken mopeds too! ;-) I miss my late 90s Ford Ranger XLT. It's such a shame that light duty small trucks aren't available anymore!
@@TravisTutorial Nice! Mine was a 96 or 97, manual (five speed I think) with the smallest engine. It really struggled on hills like on I-5 in southern Oregon (going up them at 35 mph was no fun), but it was a great little truck. The Maverick does look cool, but I was saddened to learn that you can't get it with a normal or even crew cab, only the huge extended one with a second row of seats.
@@bjf10 I actually did that route once years ago in a friend's Ranger of that era! Hills are certainly not your friend. Yeah the 4 door quad cab as a standard on the Maverick is a bit much, but at least you can still find the gas f150 or chevy work pickup in a single cab configuration.
I have a 1982 Chevy S10 that's 40 years old, and has a 2.8L CARBURETED engine and manual transmission. I will never get rid of it. I will never own a computerized EPA EFI vehicle. A big part of the fun of riding a 2 stroke moped is because the EPA hates them. Probably not as much as I hate the EPA though. Stended cabs suck. They waste bed space, and a truck is intended to carry stuff, not people. The biggest con to that truck is EFI, which is just plain bad any way you look at it. I would be looking for something with a carburetor. I am the original owner of my carbureted S10 (I bought it new at age 23) and have never had any problems with the carburetor. It is on it's second engine, no problems, I just wore out the first engine, and plan on putting in a third engine. Having a vehicle that originally came with a carburetor is worth it's weight in gold. My S10 certainly has no safety garbage and I love it. I hate it when the government messes with motor vehicles and your right to drive/ride what you want. Again I ride motorcycles and mopeds, so none of that is an issue. My first car was a 1961 Ford Falcon. As basic as it gets. The simpler the better. The older the "tech" the better as well. NO electronics. The carbureted 20R was a great engine. My S10 no longer has the dreaded catcon. It is registered in a free county. No missions inspections. The only problem with the era that it was made in is that it is too new. I much prefer 1970s and older vehicles. I grew up working on 1950s and 1960s vehicles, the 1970s was pretty much the end of the line for decent vehicles. I also have a 1967 Mustang and a 1972 Pinto woodgrain wagon. Both run great.
Nothing beats the simplicity and utility of these older vehicles that's for sure. It's funny, maybe it's because I started driving on newer-ish (1990s) vehicles, but I've come to appreciate the computers for diagnosis. I did the paperclip trick and counted the check engine light flashing to diagnose a bad Throttle Position Sensor on my 1989 4Runner with a 22RE, kind of neat you didn't have to buy a scan tool. OBD2 made diagnosis easy on my newer vehicles, the newest was 2000 which most people would consider pretty old, That being said, I would be very fearful of being nickel and dimed paying for the complexity of a brand new vehicle.
frugality is the way forward for sure with todays vehicle prices , great truck
Mine has over 500,000 miles on it!! Odometer quit working a year ago. Plan on running it for another 10 years
Unless you use it once a week, another 10years will not happen
@Jeremya74 why do you think that? The motor has 70k on it and pretty much the entire truck is new oem or better parts
A manual gear box is an anti theft feature in the USA.

On my 93 I opted to just unbolt the bed to get to the pump.
I had to replace the fuel pump/fuel gauge unit in my 95 Toyota because the fuel line rusted out an inch from the gas tank 8 years ago. When that happens the only good repair is to replace the whole fuel pump/fuel gauge assembly.

Very few of us do
I’d say ppl with money don’t really care, if you’re broke it’s definitely not the case haha
There’s still a few of us around. 27. 2000 Camry with 183,xxx. Wife drives a base model 4Runner. Recently rebuilt a 22re in a pickup that I now regret selling. You could say I’m a classic Toyota fanboy.
19 with a 93 4runner running great 👍🏻
Brooo I do am 19 , rn I chose to buy an 89 Toyota pickup cause my uncle drives one and he says their engines are indestructible and also cause I work in construction with my dad , I still have money left and saved , am chillin don’t get me wrong, but my original goal was to get a 2018 camaro 2ss
Just got mine 2 weeks ago. I love it so much
Upgrade suspension all around for better ride. Bushings, sway bar struts , shocks , leaf springs. It will feel new!!
I have a 94 extended cab sr5 v6 4x4 auto with all the bells and whistles absolutely love it. Also up in Oregon so no rust.
I'm from the East Coast originally so it blew my mind how easy it was to work on the truck the first couple times, it's great!
My 1995 Corolla has 260,000 miles and runs like champ! Love Toyotas
There really is something special about these small trucks! Much love for the older Nissan (that one was almost old enough to be a Datsun!) tucks.
@@TravisTutorial
The original tailgate said Nissan in big stamped letters and had a Datsun sticker in the lower corner. It's got over 3 or 400K miles now. I rebuilt the engine about 100K ago but it really didn't need it. I went back with all standard bearings and rings using the original pistons, and it had 2 bad exhaust valves. It's quite fast with the carb and header.
@@upsidedowndog1256 That's awesome you were able to rebuild it! Sounds like a very loyal solider.
@@TravisTutorial
The 84 was called the 720 pickup.
I got my 92 toyota pickup for $2,200 in 2004. I drive it every day. Big cockroach energy. Best damn truck on the planet.
I have a 92 4x4 Toyota pickup truck its my best friend, we like going off-roading and going over curbs like nothing , doing donuts, and down shifting when needed (I maintain it to be at its best fyi)
Heck yeah! It's the good life
I have a '96 Taco that I've had ten years.
Heck yeah, love to hear it!
Just bought a 1997 toyota tacoma 4x4 a week ago with 20k on the odo....flawless. Drove it back home 700 miles and no problems. Timmy C Arizona
Nice!! That's great basically a new truck
Thanks so much for this vid! Been looking at 80s-00s toyota pickups. This helped a lot to narrow in what to look for and expect.
Miss my 85 tin can with a sewing machine under the hood. Drove mine at 65 below zero in Fairbanks --the little 4-banger took forever to warm up until the heat finally crawled out of the vents. Even so wish I still had it.
Fairbanks is the best cold weather testing grounds on earth. Makes a toyota heater look like junk. 50 years from north pole
That's the dream!
That's the way to be heck yeah!
Bro I have one too. If you have any updates on what you did. To keep it at a 100 percent daily drive let me know
My 1992 SR5 can drive itself anywhere.
Heck yeah!
That truck will run forever! Pops has a 2004 tundra with 350k on it and it still sounds smooth! Looks rough though because its a work truck and sits in the sun all day!! Go Toyota!
How often to have valve adjustment done and has he had it done on that truck?

Every time I pull up the parking lot at school I can assure my car is the oldest one in the lot and some people always stare but i dont care. A guy a actually asked me what year it was and was surprised to know these 4runners are from the late 90s seems to think a lot of people assume they’re older just by looks which in my opinion I do enjoy it
Heck yeah! I had a 2000 4Runner when I was in college, enjoy it!
It would be nice to have a older truck , but living in California I wonder if mandatory smog check would be an issue. Great video
Nice one.. we love this kind of Cars ..from Yemen
Just picked up a 94 with 45k miles. Clean as a whistle. 1 owner. Kept indoors its whole life.
Wow that is a heck of a find!
@TravisTutorial I have an in with the previous owner, he's my grandpa. I'll be driving it across the country this spring. Then the real work starts.

@@TravisTutorialnot expensive, but the labor costs.... Being it to México, it Will beba Lot cheaper todo here.
Thank you for your comment! 370k is still super impressive, and it's absolutely worth it to rebuild!
I drive my 2002 Tacoma everyday. 205K and going strong,,,,,,so what if it rides hard. Keep on driving it!
Amazing! Glad to hear you are keeping it going
I had one of these for 7 years, petrol, oil and filters, one set of tyres. The only repair was a recon radiator for Australian $165. Daughter drove it into a tree, both of us walked away, and still drove the 300 km home. Now I have two Toyota utes/pick ups.
Owning one will make a brand loyalist out of anyone!

i have a 94 yota pick , i paid $1000 for , they thought the motor needed major work turns out it was the plastic timing chain guards that broke and was clicking around, my friend the mechanic and I replaced the guards with new metal guards for $50 plus the cost of the parts, I blew the head gasket coming from down in the valley tubing down the river but coming back up a steep mountain with some switch back curves the coolant hose came lose out of the reservoir so it wasn't circulating so after about an hour it started to really get hot , I made it to the AutoZone and bought a new hose since mine was down in the bottom of the reservoir I added coolant once it cooled down and drove home no issues, well,,, about a week later it started the overheating intermittently so I knew it was either a wrapped head or a head gasket since everything else was working fine and I had some white smoke coming from the exhaust in the heat of summer,,, did the compression test and gas leak test and yes it was the head gasket ,, I chose to just purchase a refurbed machined head instead of sending mine out , I got a deal since I gave the folks at the m,machine shop my old head ,,, replaced the gasket and the head ,,,, not a single issue out of the truck since,,, and had it not been for my mistake of loosening the hose under the res cap when checking the fluids before going on my adventure that day then I wouldn't have a story to tell ,,,needless to say it was my fault and this truck is my favorite vehicle to drive ,, if I was in a jam and had to pick a vehicle to no leave me stranded and to be guaranteed to start every single time I turn the key (even when its over heating) it would be my 1994 Toyota pickup 22re

I forgot to mention, the weather strips for these beaters are a pretty cheap and easy necessity. Totally worth it. Those old Toyotas used good steel. You have to work pretty hard at getting one to rust.
I bought mine 22 years ago. rarely need to fix anything.
My 91 pickup ext. Cab has intermittent wipers, an adjustable steering column, and the auto clutch start button. No AC though.

OBD2 made diagnosis easy on my newer vehicles, the newest was 2000 which most people would consider pretty old,
That being said, I would be very fearful of being nickel and dimed paying for the complexity of a brand new vehicle.
Loved the video!
