- / @youcartv Land Rover announces a limited-edition high-performance version of the iconic Defender, with up to 150 V8-powered examples re-engineered to celebrate the Land Rover marque’s 70th anniversary in 2018.
The 2018 Land Rover Defender Works V8 pays homage to the early high-powered engines in both the Series III Stage 1 V8 from 1979 and subsequent Defenders including the 50th Anniversary Edition, which are highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors today.
Defender Works V8 is the most powerful and fastest version that Land Rover has ever created. The 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V8 powertrain produces 405 horsepower and 515 Nm of torque (the standard Defender delivered 122 HP and 360 Nm). The Defender Works V8 will accelerate from 0-60mph (0-96 kph) in 5.6sec, while top speed is increased to 106mph (170 kph).
The V8 powertrain will be fitted to 150 specially-selected and re-engineered Defenders for the 70th Edition, complemented by an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with sport mode, uprated brakes and handling kit (springs, dampers and anti-roll bars), plus exclusive 18-inch diamond-turned Sawtooth alloy wheels and 265/65 R18 all-terrain tyres.
Both 90 and 110 wheelbase Defender Works V8 derivatives will be available to purchase direct from Land Rover Classic, with prices starting from £150,000 for a 90 in the UK.

Yeah, at first I thought it was a hoax; the fact that it's real blows my mind. There is obviously a LOT of re-engineering to the old Landy to prepare it for approx. 3x the power !!

This is a perfect adaptation of the Defender. I would take one of these over the new JL Wrangler any day of the week. Everything about it down to the small infotainment screen that manages to be inoffensive in the center stack of this classic is perfect. I'm also very thrilled to see this 5.0 V8 available here in NA format, which retains the purity of this build. I bet with this being a body on frame construction, simple 4 wheel drive system, solid axles and limited electrical components that it'd be as reliable as a toyota pickup! I know that unibody offroaders are both the reason and bane of land rovers existence when it comes to reliability and this lacks that complicated element.

I doubt you'll ever get one over there. Import a 25 year old one and modify it yourself. Find someone to stick a new galvonised chassis under it and paint it and then just don't tell anybody.

I have a 1987 90" defender in phoenix orange. Extremely clean for its age and will probably still be running when i'm long gone, i'm only 26. There not expensive when you think about the cost of buying a new car ever few years.

Many many thanks to Almighty God iam very happy LAND ROVER still belongs to England as forever it should be in its rightful country. As at present iam 63 years old an in my entire life I have used Land rover all over in Tanzania East Africa. More over I have my loved one of 1953 model. Series 1. Still OK with engine/gearbox and diff of series 3 petrol.

This is THE REAL NEW Defender
This version is expensive but worth a second look. I like the Jaguar auto stick and cool Discovery dash. When I test drove a stock Defender 90, I was put off by its abysmal ergonomics. I urge anyone to look at the many dedicated rebuilders of the Defender 90 and 110, like this one, who endow the truck with more modern drivetrains.
Nice but can you get it with a soft top or a 4 door model? wish the jeep Wrangler came with a V8 model
This is actually so much better looking then new concepts, they should've just redesign it saving the outside look, every single other LR is aerodynamic and modern as of today, LR could've kept one in retro looks giving it en edge of technology insides. MB Gelendvagen sort of style, could made it out of aluminum as well but saving the styling. Something does not get old as it is timeless.
