We were sorry to say goodbye to he Land Rover Defender but thanks to the JLR works department we now have the Land Rover Defender Works V8 and it is gloriously silly.

It's such a pitty that jaguar Landover doesn't use the defender to compete against the g wagon.
And bring it to the US.

It's to do with 'heritage'! Mercedes realised the G-Wagen has it. Jeep knows the Wrangler has it. JLR knows it has it - but has stopped production of the Defender - they could have continued like Merc and Jeep - but Land Rovers are virtually hand built with hammers, so it wasn't easy for them to continue (nothing to do with safety or airbags or ESP or stuff...!). The 'new defender' will not have 'heritage'!

If I really felt compelled to have a V8 Defender I'd probably go for one made by Twisted.
I was overtaken by one on the M4 early one morning, I was traveling above the speed limit & this all black 110 Twisted Defender passed me like I was stood still.

Almost crazy as the latest Defender V8... has 500+ horsepower, 2 doors, and I think it might be a bit smaller too.
This car is ridiculously good. And wth a price limiting there numbers, the best ones with low milage will certainly be a huge value in 2035. Huge. A lot more than the G amg. The LAST real defender than looks just like the original before the u turn of the new defender. And if it is a mess, as I am anticipating, these defenders V8 will become classics. And cost a lot.

Thing is,in 30 years time these will probably be worth more than that,whereas a current same price range rover will likely be ten grand at best for a good one.nostalgia...It's why the G63 still exists.but where merc build as many as they can sell,this run is limited.In a world where people spend millions on fast volkswagens with a bugatti badge stuck on them the price isn't bad considering.

Limited, or not 150 k is a fucking joke, considering when you're cornering a little bit hard - everything rattles and squeks. But I get it, if you're British, it must be nice to finally have very fast&potent Defender..

In 1992 you could buy a Defender brand new with a V8 and 4 speed manual for £700 less than a TDI diesel. My dealer talked me out of picking it over the TDI saying it would have no second hand value! The TDI was so unreliable the V8 would have proved cheaper to run even at 15 mpg!

there actually is it has a brand new AJ133 engine and ZF 8 speed gearbox that works perfectly with all the other functions of the car, it has bespoke suspension developed in conjunction with Bilstein and an Alcon braking system, slight;y different to putting an old Rover V8 in one!
However irrational it may be I still *love* it.

I've owned 2 v8 discos. I want a rangie. So here goes............... This is stupid and shit! Yes rover run Ford motors, I get it, woopty fucking do! It's not worth an extra $100k! We pimp the fuck out of forbies here in Oz. I pimped my last 3.9L ES disco. Headers, twin 2.5" exhaust, 3" lift kit, ranch 9000 adjustable shocks, diff locks, snorkel etc. Soooooo, chucking in a v8 here in Oz is nothing new or hard. Plenty of guys here running LS1s(+) in defenders, hiluxs, cruisers etc. There is(was) even a company that specialises in this, turning out Bush Rangers. No where near the cost.
I'd buy a defender, get a crate motor, new gearbox and get it privately done. A fraction of the cost. Chuck some ranchos in and at one end you'll be drifting rock solid at the other end you'll have so much travel you'll be rolling over cars. I thrashed mine sideways around corners in the city and monstered rediculous washouts and ruts off road camping. It's not hard to build. Rover are seriously taking the piss with this thing, big time. Especially with a Ford donk and a zf box. Rediculous mark up🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
