It's always the ones who take something like that well at first who struggle the most when time goes on. I was robbed at gunpoint one time working at a convince store. Had a gun shoved into my ribs, and then point blank at my face, and I've never been so scared in my life. At the time, the detective and my family told me how well I handled the situation. and I felt like I just escaped death, so I was more relieved than anything. Now, over a year and a half later, I'm still struggling with the way that moment made me feel. It almost hurts more now than it did then.
My mind continues to flash to that moment and I think "what if they shot me?" What sort of life would I have lived with a bullet in my face, or in my ribs? What would my family and friends have thought if I was killed? Was the 17$/hr job really worth losing my life over? My mind tends to drift to what reality would be like if I was killed that day. and what hurts me the most is, I dont think my death would have meant anything to anyone who didnt know me. I wouldnt have been on the news, I wouldnt have been memorialized by my former high school and college. I would have drifted away like countless others. A memory forgotten to the past, gone in an instant, and for what?
@collectibleasmr you're 100% right. I've been through various forms of therapy in my life and have had some great counseling. The most important things to me right now are having and maintaining a strong support system of family and friends and finding ways to initiate flow states for my thinking. As of August 27, there were 10 mass shootings in the United States in 2023. This is compared to one mass shooting in 1982, one in 2000, and 12 mass shootings in 2022. School shootings The United States sees the most school shootings in the world. Some motivations for school shootings included depression, seeking revenge, and bullying. As a result of the large amount of school shootings, gun control has become a central topic in U.S. politics. This widespread problem happens across the United States; however California saw the highest number of K-12 school shootings in the United States since 1970. However, the deadliest school shooting (as of August 2023) was the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007. This tragedy left 33 dead and 23 injured. Mass shooting issues Mass shootings happen when there are several injuries or deaths from a firearm-related violence. Throughout the last century, mass shootings have become an epidemic in the United States. However, despite the increase in mass shootings and number of casualties, the U.S. government has done little to prevent future shootings from happening. As a result of the lack of cooperation in politics, mass shootings have become an important issue for Generation Z living in the United States. Furthermore, having the right to bear arms is a popular belief in the U.S. and the percentage of households in the United States owning at least one firearm has remained somewhat steady since 1972.
Mass shootings happened almost every day when you were a kid, just like they do now. You just didn't hear about them. There have been over 500 mass shootings so far in 2023. I bet you didn't know that, because the national media and gun control crowd ignores 99% of mass shootings and 99.99999% of ALL shootings. Take a wild guess why...
Yes it was. It happened in mid late 90s with Columbine. I was a senior in high school back then. It also happened in the 80s at a McDonald's in California. And I'm not going to even talk about the Tylenol scare in the 80s.
Lewiston is actually a City. The 2 towns they mentioned Bowdoin and Lisbon are little towns. From where I live now it's around a 20 to 30 minute ride to my Doctors office in Lewiston. Kind of odd how since the very first news report they knew he had mental health conditions, but it takes them a day to confirm other most simple stuff. What about HIPPA? Would it be possible to make someone crazy if you had their hearing aids controlled? It is clear that the hospital that he was admitted to did not do their job and should be thoroughly investigated and charged. One of the first things that should have been done was to check the firearms register and reach out to his next of kin to see if he had access to firearms. In the military you can’t just walk in and take weapons. They are not only secure but guarded and there are various logs and personnel you have to through command chain to get them. You must be scheduled down range where there are additional range officers that you also must log in with. So that being an avenue for weapons makes absolutely no logical sense. He would have to go through several people and as I said there is monitoring at each point, you don’t just walk in and take a weapon. The elephant in the room is mental health professionals and the fact that we need to reopen mental health facilities. Not everyone is safe to be on the streets. Often when your admitted they put you on psychotropic drugs then put you back on the streets. They did this with my ex and he killed himself. This happens quite frequently and we have to start holding mental health facilities and big pharma accountable. . Over medicating people and sending the criminally insane out into the streets instead of in house treatment has become an ongoing problem. Every mass shooting was a criminally insane or heavily medicated person. Criminal do not obey the law by definition. They will use a gun, a knife, battery acid, a bow. The issue is not being addressed which is we need more mental health institutions like we had in the 50s when communities were safe.
You make excellent points here. However, I think the elephant in the room is actually our ridiculously weak gun laws. This man should have had zero access to firearms.
a handgun, battery acid, and a bow would not have been able to mow people down... assault rifles should be restricted. And ALL weapons should be removed from access if there is a mental illness.
How is this the mental health system? The mental health "authorities" can't go to somebody's house to take their guns away if they're reported to be crazy. That's the police's responsibility and they can only do that if the state allows them. We don't have a broken health care system for this, we have a broken firearm industry that's preventing any kind of restrictions whatsoever. That group would allow guns on airplanes if they could

For anybody who has ever been a victim or lost somebody to this there is no answers. Millions of questions. And not 1 reasonable answer......😔
Reasonable answer is God wanted you to live a little while longer, so stop thinking about it and continue your life
No, that actually isn't a reasonable answer because that would then mean that God didn't want the other persons that died to live. It's an extremely money-driven society down here unfortunately. The only way any change actually occurs is when it affects the people at the top. It is what it is 🤷♂️
To be fair, your mentally ill can ask the government to kill them while Turdeau took your right to self defense away. So you technically _do_ still have mass killings, they just come with a federal stamp of approval. It's all so complicated, isn't it?

Crazy times we live in. I’m only 24 years old but when I was a kid this was almost un heard of 😢
Nope it was happening this all started in 1949. It's more frequent now because more people have access to guns.
As of August 27, there were 10 mass shootings in the United States in 2023. This is compared to one mass shooting in 1982, one in 2000, and 12 mass shootings in 2022.
School shootings
The United States sees the most school shootings in the world.
Mass shooting issues
Mass shootings happen when there are several injuries or deaths from a firearm-related violence. Furthermore, having the right to bear arms is a popular belief in the U.S. and the percentage of households in the United States owning at least one firearm has remained somewhat steady since 1972.
you think the access to guns was somehow more restricted in 1949?? @@KC-cb7ov

Forced meds? 🤣🤣 in the 50s you could send you're wife to get help because she yapped too much. Good job.
a handgun, battery acid, and a bow would not have been able to mow people down... assault rifles should be restricted. And ALL weapons should be removed from access if there is a mental illness.

It’s so sorry for all your losses. 💔
Just move out of the U.S. people... just do it for the safety of your children.. we, the rest of the world, are shaking our heads because we can not understand how someone would choose to stay in a country, were its not safe to step a foot out of the building. You see, people in warzones leaving the country for the safety of their children.. I honestly don't get it. Why would I choose a gun or a assault rifle over my own child? I couldn't care less about that piece of metal. My child would be the world to me
What country should people move to? I'm curious what nation you're from for you to say this
@robotraptor7332 I don't know what countries . Some nearby, that are statistically safer idk, Canada or something like that. For example, I'm from Germany, as you ask. Yeah, stabbing stabbing, but I feel safe in general. I'm not scared about some random dude who sits in the same train. I'm just saying, I see you only respond to comments that are not "100% pro America supportive" . I was just genuinely talking
@@onurji4311I am not moving from America to Germany…that’s dumb as hell..Y’all only get sun 3 months out the year..Hell naw lol
@Rob_uno if you read right, I made an example like Canada. As I said, the word "nearby." Moving to another continent would be dumb as hell, correct. And 3 months of sun? I'd be happy if it could get really cold because we already have almost November. It's way too warm and sunny recently. So I can tell you, there is enough good weather in Germany.
@@onurji4311It happens in Germany 🇩🇪 too
My heart goes out to those have passed. Rest in peace. 🙏🏻
“There is nothing so likely to produce peace as to be well prepared to meet an enemy.”

Uh huh…
Sure, there’s more deaths by handguns, but is that really the best argument some of y’all got to try to justify why civilians should be able to own any weapon like the one he had that can kill masses of people at such speed? If they banned such weapons, handguns should be more than enough to protect yourself, if you wanna use the “but I need to protect myself” argument.
Obviously you have zero professional training, knowledge, experience, or skills in this area. And yet here you are, flapping your lips...

People who let this mans mental issues slide/him have guns should be charged or at least lose their positions of authority. The fact the man threatened to shoot up the military base he worked at and still kept his guns is insane and one of the issues that must be addressed. Maybe if people start losing their jobs or getting charged with negligence we will see these issues get addressed.
All the individuals who knew this guy was nuts and did nothing? No laws to stop this? Keep them institutionalized and away from society. This is common sense
I'm not buying it
You are a perspicacious person
It's total crap. People will believe anything the TV tells them.
Every person should own a weapon to feel empowered and safe to defend themselves!

Very helpful and insightful. I bet you're super smart. lol 🤡
@@jeepninja1Smarter than you guys for sure. It's comical how dumb people are over there.
@@jeepninja1 nope not at all. Just logic!! I really don't understand why Americans don't get it. They have a perfect example in the name of Australia. How Australia disarmed themselves and put an end to gun violence in their country. Once again, Logic.

Is Maine paying for funeral charges and medical bills of the wounded? Their gunlaws didn't exist to stop this murderer
Why wasnt anyone armed in there?! Americans have a 2nd Amendment right but no one was using it! Carry everywhere you go! Cops are minutes away when seconds count! You are your own first response!
There was a sign on the bowling alley door “gun free zone”
Speaks volumes how tragic my heart goes out to victim in this heartbreaking
Maine has more armed citizens than any other state yet it is one of the most peaceful. This shooting is unheard of here in Maine. Democrats will try and use this to pass more gun laws, when it is the shooter that is the issue. We pray for the families of the victims. This guy needed help but didnt get it. He must be held accountable for his actions. Maine does not have the death penalty, but he can get natural life. May God comfort and bless these poor families.
If that's the case, then why didn't one person engage this Manchurian candidate? There's more that meets the eye here. There is already an agenda in this tragic event. And it's already clear. Ban all assault weapons. I hate the interpretation, because a rock can be an assault weapon. My prayers go to all involved in this tragedy.
And what are republicans going to do? Prayers? Clearly an armed society doesn’t fix the problem
"If that's the case, then why didn't one person engage this Manchurian candidate?"- Don't think too hard on this when the answer is staring at you. In these situations, people can be armed to the teeth but are too afraid to act despite the male bravado that "it won't happen on my watch". Look at the Uvalde shooting, and all those cowards doing nothing while children were dying.....
A rock cant kill 18 in seconds. You'd have to put a lot of effort for a rock to do the same damage.
Maine doesn’t even have close to the most armed citizens, that would be Texas. We don’t need to do anything about the gun laws or background checks but God will help the families. 🤦♂️
I dislike how they interview people that just had a traumatic experience
For all the anti gunners that inevitably show up, the problem is not the guns, the problem is that this man who threatened to shoot up a national guard base didnt have his guns taken from him. Its crazy how the atf can walk up to your house because you gun has something they dont like but someone who threatens violence and is actually a threat to public safety doesent even make them bat an eye, its a little crazy how that works.
Not crazy..it's inside job..no other way
I can understand a shotgun or handgun for home protection , but let's be real , do you need a Military Type Assault Weapon to protect your home ????.....let's try using some " common sense ", when making our GunControl Laws !!...🤔🤔🤔
@@kuangtien3980the 2nd Ammendment isn't just about protecting your home. You 1st need common sense before you can use it.
@@kuangtien3980 Calling a firearm a "Military style assault weapon" is asinine because the military uses every firearm imaginable from handguns to shotguns to rifles and every weapon ever conceived is an assault weapon, it's what a weapon does it is a tool to assault whoever the user uses it on. Also no matter what class or size a gun is a gun no matter what, I'm sure if the madman had a handgun in place of a rifle he would have caused as much or 95% of the damage he would have with the rifle. Another thing is that if the government can't trust responsible citizens with firearms that means that the government doesn't have the people's benefit in mind and wants to disarm them to make resistance difficult
"The problem is not the guns", says man in the only country not actively at war where this happens.

@@janetgood6332 yea, real safe with 18 dead, id rather one innocent bystander down vs a mass of people, but i understand your logic. im pretty sure no one had a gun or they would have used if if their life depended on it, several people had ran for a knife to defend themselves, im pretty sure those people would have rather used a gun.
