    To be fair, no veganaise ever tried to trick me into thinking it's the healthier option.
    It's just the option with no animal products involved.
    Making your own is definitely the best way to go, like often :)

      Mind Over Munch Decieved would suggest that Veganaise intended to fool you... I think it just needs to be shared that oils and processed sugars in Vegan labeled products will not be beneficial health wise. People choose vegan for ethics though.

      Mind Over Munch nobody is trying to decieve anyone to believe vegan processed foods are "healthy". If people come to that conclusion on their own and feel "decieved" that's on them and their obviously low IQ. Whole food/plant based is healthy which is most of what a vegan diet consists of but, vegan implies an ethical stand point, not a health one.

      Hi! I'm pretty new to it, but what I understand is that it eliminates inflammatory foods to allow your digestive system, etc. to heal. Then you can add back foods after 30, 60 or 90 days,depending on how you are feeling. It's mainly for autoimmune diseases, but I'm seeing it really help with my food allergies. I highly recommend The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook if you want more info. A fantastic program, and the best Butternut Squash Breakfast Bake I've ever had :)

    Fruit yogurts are a very big nutrition scam. In my country we have a brand called Danio and it's packed with sugar;
    a single cup provides you between 25% and 28% of your daily sugar intake!! And they really sale it as a quick healthy snack option… it's disgusting. I only consume plain, sugar free yogurts that I sweeten myself. I'm glad to see that I'm/was aware of almost everything said in this video. I'll keep on this track. It can not be wrong. Thank you Alyssia for keeping me motivated.

      I buy plain 2% greek yogurt, and it tastes just like 20% fat sour cream (I'm russian, we love sour cream), and it has 4 times more protein! Plus you can have it with fruits or sweet pastry and add cinnamon/ginger/cloves/honey etc. or you can have it with vegetables or dumplings and add any seasoning/herbs! Sooo versatile and guilt free (well except for vegans and lactose-intolerant people...)

    • @lauren8627

      Em S no. It's the sugar.

    • @lauren8627
      @lauren8627 6 лет назад +1

      Considering the WHO says that 25g is the max sugar you should eat per day. Yoplait strawberry has 22.4g if sugar in one serving and it says that it is 25% of the daily intake. So Australian food labels allow 4 times the amount of sugar (so that's like 90g or so) than the WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION SAYS IS A GOOD IDEA. Just fantastic...

    • @Lilsnukems
      @Lilsnukems 5 лет назад +3

      @@lauren8627 Keep in mind that the WHO sugar guidelines only refer to "free sugars" aka "added sugars". So the 25g recommendation does not apply to sugar that is naturally occurring in most foods, only what has been added by the processor. I believe all nutrition labels now have a "sugar" and separate "added sugar" sections. That may explain why there is a discrepancy between what is listed on the Yoplait strawberry that you're commenting on. If only 6g of the total sugar in the product is "added sugar" then that would correlate with 25% of the recommended daily intake. This is from the WHO website:
      "Free sugars refer to monosaccharides (such as glucose, fructose) and disaccharides (such as sucrose or table sugar) added to foods and drinks by the manufacturer, cook or consumer, and sugars naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates.
      The WHO guideline does not refer to the sugars in fresh fruits and vegetables, and sugars naturally present in milk, because there is no reported evidence of adverse effects of consuming these sugars."

    Gluten is not hard to digest... it's only problematic if one has a sensitivity to it. I poked around a nutrition journal for inflammatory oils and came up pretty empty handed. I am guessing that this is a fad and no one will care in ten years or so. Soy proteins also are not bad for you, I mean Asia has been eating them for how long and they haven't had any soy caused epidemics.

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  6 лет назад

      It can be inflammatory for many people even without a diagnosed sensitivity, but the problem comes when people choose "gluten free" thinking it means "healthy"

    • @jwoolman3425
      @jwoolman3425 5 лет назад +1

      Alex Noa - in Asia, they don’t eat massive quantities of soy products and often eat them in fermented form (miso, tempeh) or as small amounts of tofu. Americans undoubtedly get a lot more exposure to soy because it ends up in so many prepared foods. More exposure can mean more problems for those with a genetic predisposition to developing allergies or intolerances.

    i’ve been buying smoothies for quite a bit, and I couldn’t agree more with what you said. Even the green ones are super high in sugar and the protein ones don’t event contain that much protein (2~3 grams per 250ml serving), yet I really don’t have time in the morning to make myself a home-made one and then clean the blender after. What’s more I often don’t even drink that much of it, just a few sips and leave what’s left for later. Anyway my question is : are smoothies that healthy and a reasonable breakfast choice, because let’s take the example of a fruit smoothie like banana-mango or idk, on their one 1-2 bananas, half to a whole mango, and then sometimes protein powder, fruit juices, milks, and so on... that on their one is a lot of food that we couldn’t eat just as is, but in a smoothie it already seems normal. Thanks a lot for all you’re doing, you really are a sunshine ☀️

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  6 лет назад +8

      Your question is one I wish more people would ask! I think about this all the time for smoothies, same goes for juices. You see all the fruit that goes into it, and it seems "normal," yet we wouldn't sit down and eat all that fruit at once. So why do we drink it? I personally think smoothies aren't ideal as a meal, unless you're specifically designing them to be. Adding veggies, healthy fats through nuts or coconut milk, avocado, etc., and keeping sugar content lower is important-it can really add up with fruit, even if it is healthy. This could be an option to add protein powder, but I try to only use supplements if I really need them. Ultimately, I think smoothies CAN be healthy, but require some intention behind them. A smoothie isn't healthy just because it's a smoothie :)

      I personally like to make a green smoothie with half a banana, half a zucchini, spinach, kale, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and flax meal (and water ofc). I like it because it’s an easy way for me to load up on a lot of nutrients and is low in sugar for a smoothie, but for other stuff I find I just prefer to eat fruit normally. Fruit has such a great and varied texture!

    • @JoNat315
      @JoNat315 6 лет назад +3

      I've actually noticed this when I was journaling what I eat each day, the amount of food that goes into a single smoothie is insane, specially if you pick items that are more dense in calories or sugar. If you choose a milk base, bananas and mangos, the amount of natural sugar alone can come as a shock. I try to bulk smoothies by using more vegetables like zuchinnis, cucumbers and leafy greens. Also, I feel that freezing fruit contributes to thickness so you tend to use less pieces of fruit per smoothie.

    Best video I've seen by you! Since diagnosed with Diabetes 2 a year ago, I read labels daily. I'vechanged my diet, lost 20 kg in a year and the last three sugar tests were so good that I am off the meds. I am very very good at not buying all the crap anymore and I love cooking anyway. So nothing is easier, cheaper and better than making your own of anything. The only down side is that it is time consuming and needs planning. But with all the great recipes online it is way easier than thirty years ago. I really dislike being fooled into things, so I watch out.. Many of these these recipes on Pinterest and RUclips claiming to be healthy because they are low carb but loaded with fat make me laugh. So this video is very good and should be watched by everyone. And another one like this is always welcome! Thanks and greetings from Germany.

    Definitely in favor of cutting through nonsense health claims, especially when it comes to conflating gluten free and better for you. However, I remain skeptical about broad statements regarding inflammation-it’s a complex, heterogeneous process and the way it might relate to food seems poorly understood. But bottom line, people should eat in a way that works for them (which can vary considerably because of that good old gut biome).

      @adbreon 6 лет назад +1

      A lot of “health” foods pack in complex oligosaccharides as a way to bulk up fiber. These sound healthy because they come from plants such as chicory but will cause severe discomfort for people with IBS.

      Olivia McNeil long chain carbs are not your friend. Inulin, chicory root fiber, most of the seaweed and kelp derivatives (except actual sea vegetables which usually are okay) and sadly, a large percentage of the low Glycemic index sweeteners are all way more digestible by the bad gut bacteria than they should be.

      I personally don't! A quest bar is a protein bar, so without protein powder, it would be challenging to also get that amount of protein. D's naturals does make vegan protein bars but it uses plant based protein powders.

    Icelandic yogurt is a great alternative to Greek, too! Most of the time it’s thick and doesn’t have water and milk floating on top. Generally they will have natural ingredients and range from 3-10 grams of sugar and 5-15 grams of protein. My personal favorite brand is Siggis 😋

    I wish nutrition gurus would stop using the word "clean" to apply to food. So, what is this processed cereal someone is eating? "Dirty" food? Does that make them a "dirty" person"? Or a "bad" person? So sick of all these morality labels being applied to foods: "clean", "toxic", "bad". Just because a food is "bad for you" doesn't make the food itself "bad". It's just a piece of food! That's why Americans have so many damn emotional/psychological issues with food, eating, weight, etc. All these implied judgments.

    • @d.lawrence5670
      @d.lawrence5670 6 лет назад

      But thank you for this list, anyway.

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  6 лет назад

      In no way is calling something "clean" saying other foods are "bad," it's simply meant to imply they are not processed or artificial. There needs to be a way to designate the difference between more and less processed, so call it what works for you. Just recognize that other people using the word "clean" doesn't mean they are inherently judging your choices.

    What about Rice Cakes made from whole grains? Like from corn, spelt or millet? We have them here in Germany

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  6 лет назад +6

      totally! Rice cakes or ones made from other grains are heated to very high temperatures, so they are pretty processed, but it doesn't mean the ingredients are bad or bad for you. I think they are not offering much nutrition-wise, but not hurting much either. I don't think they should be replacing whole grains in our diets, but are fine to include if they help your healthy lifestyle and mental relationship with food :) I think of them as a food that isn't really fuel, but isn't probably going to do much damage, either.
