  • Surprisingly healthy processed snacks - is there such a thing?! I’ve got a haul of unexpectedly CLEAN snacks from the grocery store, and you’ll be surprised by how few ingredients they have…
    What are processed foods anyway? And why are processed foods bad for you? Of course, “healthy” and “clean” are broad terms that’re open to interpretation, but not ALL processed foods are “bad” or “junk” or “unhealthy.” These labels tend to be more harmful than helpful, when in reality some processed snacks are cleaner and less processed than others.
    So today, I’ve got a surprisingly healthy snack haul featuring over 20 healthy processed snacks with only A FEW ingredients each - from healthy chips to healthy crackers to cleaner candies, even with some classics like Fritos and Tostitos in the mix!
    Let’s rethink our labels for processed food and junk food, let’s READ the ingredients lists on food packaging, and let’s practice making peace with the snacks that bring us joy. You never know - some of your favorite processed snacks might be surprisingly healthy and clean!

    I subscribed to you a while back in hopes you'd show me recipes on how to lose weight, but quickly realized that you've helped me in a much deeper way; you've changed how I view food. I did not know the extent of how bad my relationship with food was, but now that I'm aware and I practice mindful eating or intuitive eating, I'm so much better off.
    I might have lost weight, but ultimately that doesn't matter as much as the relationship to food and my body.

      What's also needed is understanding, not all natural flavours are good for us, and not all artificial ones are from the devil. For instance, msg is a natural thing in foods we all love, including tomatoes and mushrooms. Glutamate is a common amino acid. We have a tastebud for it alone, because as a part of whole foods, it screamed to our ancestors, "Eat me! I'm nutritious!" Perhaps a video on MSG alone might be helpful to many? "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome," for instance, was actually originally a racist idea, formed after the Chineae Exclusion Act made it illegal for Chinese to own businesses beyond restaurants and laundries.

Being someone who has dealt with disordered eating, hearing you talk about removing those stigmas of “good” vs “bad” foods hits home so much! i find it so weird how in the US they only give calorie info per 'serving size'. like its so much simpler to give the nutritional info for 100g like we do in england. then you can decide your own serving and calculate the calories kind of easily

      yeah, calorie density is a huge one. that's why i pick cakes over biscuits. considering it should already be portion controlled, i would prefer more of that item over less. Of course, preference also comes into play. Someone with a salt craving should go for chips.

      "Clean" and "dirty" are not labels but an assessment of a food's nutritional value and or inclusion of potentially dangerous ingredients. A label is something that describes what something is like the wrapper on a chocolate bar saying "chocolate bar".

    Its all about habit! By eating all those foods all the time obv you will constantly crave them. One need to rewire the brain and break the habit of eating those Snacks and find better alternatives. Like when i Was a child we always had baked goods at home. So obv i sometimes crave them. Instead of buying sugary baked goods wirh thousand ingredients i bake on sunday something for the week and eat it whenever my cravings Struck again! This rly helps :)

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  3 года назад +1

      Yes, habit is a huge part of our cravings! And we can absolutely learn to be mindful with our food choices, gradually rewire those neural pathways. It helps to take an active role in our shopping and read the ingredients lists on what we're buying! These are all great strategies you're using 😊 glad you found the video helpful! 💗

    Finn Crisp Original. Don't know if you can get them in northern America, but if you do, I recommend trying them. Whole grain rye, sourdough and yeast. they are quite narrow, a bit like a wasa crispbread cut in half lengthways. Perfect size for dipping. But the thing I love most about them is that they are super thin, which makes them super crispy. Some might think of them as healthy food, but I just really enjoy them which is great. :-)

    I have always wanted to know. When a person goes a "diet" does this cause someone to binge when they suddenly try something nice. An example...The household had burgers and chips last night. It was airfried so no oil involved. I made baby marrow chips and had lettuce in place of buns but hated every minute of it. How do I work around this?

  • @brittanylutz7742

    I would love to see your thoughts on “diet” ice creams like Halo vs real ice cream. I don’t know if the fake sugar alcohols in Halo are better than real sugar.

    • @lydiajacobs3974
      @lydiajacobs3974 2 года назад

      They are not. Take soda for an example. 1 can of regular soda once in a while, not daily, is better for you than a diet soda everyday. The chemicals used to make artificial sweetner are very bad long term. If at all possible try cutting some of those foods/drinks out of your normal eating routine and find an alternative replacement with fewer ingredients. Also you can make your own ice cream easily at home and control the amount of and types of sugar/ sweetner you want to use. You don't need fancy equipment. A blender and an airtight container to freeze will work.

      Lol of course "healthy" is subjective, but it's certainly helpful to rethink the negative labels we put on chips like "bad" or "junk." So glad you enjoy the videos! 🤗

    • @FleurPillager
      @FleurPillager 3 года назад

      @@MindOverMunch "Bad" or "junk" isn't a label it's an assessment of nutritional value. A label identifies what something is, like a wrapper on a head of broccoli stating "broccoli".
