- With all the dating apps to choose from and dating coaches throwing out advice on "how to get your ex back" and "3 things that will drive him crazy", it's hard to know exactly what to look for in a potential life partner. After 26 years of marriage and counseling thousands of couples over the last decade I've determined some "non-negotiables" that I would absolutely look for in a future spouse. This was a very good talk. I wasn't expecting these two traits. The first trait of serving others describes one whose focus is on doing acts of loving kindness. There should be a caution. A person like that can be so focused on serving others that he can neglect his own family. He may even pressure his spouse to do things or have guests over when it me be too much for her. It could be the second trait balances the first trait. My 1st ex did have people he was accountable to which, thank G0d, helped me get divorced. My 2nd ex manipulated the people he was supposed to be accountable to so that was more entertaining.
I think that this talk adds to the things one has to be on the lookout for in a potential spouse.

If you’re already married, I’ve heard you can’t hold a person accountable for what they don’t know!! I’m not a teach, so how can one be conditioned/reconditioned with the tools to be better when they are only willing to consult one Arsenal (their friends)? It’s hard when you realize your spouse wasn’t exposed to certain teachings and they’ve devuldged to you the awareness of that lack of knowledge/understanding is creating an issue. But they are not able/willing to be vulnerable with outsiders(professional counselors) to get what’s needed and think they’ll figure it out one day?! 🤦🏽♀️
