I really enjoyed looking at this trailer. They look so tiny on the outside that I wasn't expecting it to be such a complete package! What do you think, could you make this tiny trailer work for your camping style?
I am already a full timer but now I want something like this little scamp so I can leave my big trailer at my base and travel much easier. These little fiberglass trailers make a ton of sense especially when getting older and wanting less hassle.
Back in the 1980’s I had one just like a scamp but it was call a Burro. It had shag carpet on the walls. It was so easy to pull and I used it a lot! Camping and taking it to antiques shows. I miss my Burro. It was awesome.
I love my 13' Scamp... My dog and I spent last winter in the middle of the desert boondocking... The small tanks can have a work around with having a blueboy tank that I keep on my aluminum hitch haul...
I love Scamps and I'm glad they're still manufacturing them. They never die so there are Scamps on the used market that are decades and decades old. But we would prefer to buy new. My brother wants a camper he can tow with his Subaru. And we're from Wisconsin so we would enjoy a trip up North.
Yes, Scamp is one of the original fiberglass, lightweight trailers and they pride themselves on their quality. They are definitely one to consider! Thanks for watching!
I lived in a 16' Scamp for 2 years. I upgraded to a 23' double axle trailer, larger refrigerator/freezer, full size bed, shower, heater, 30 gallon black,Grey and fresh tanks. More storage. Much more comfortable for a full timer
I had no idea they still made those. The only ones I've seen look like they were left over from the U-haul camper days. But those look extremely well designed. I can see myself getting one some day.
We already did a Casita video…it’s an impressive trailer as well. Check it out here: Casita Spirit Deluxe Small Camper Travel Trailer: The Fibreglass Caravan From Texas! ruclips.net/video/0LlhMpQB3fE/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Love that it has one seam. Oh my goodness what's going on with the RV industry and how so many companies are putting out crap products this one holds the test of time. This style. Like Bigfoot and escape as well. Great design.
To have a bathroom included in such a small area is awesome, but what disappoints is the black tank size. Yeah, if the gray tank was smaller and black larger, it would be great. Also, 3 way for the fridge while increasing it's size. Great little camper nonetheless. Thanks.
First of all super nice video !! Although 6 gallon black tank sounds small. We had a 50 gallon on our motorhome and never used more than 10% of it for three and four day weekend events.
Scamps retain their value incredibly well. If you look up recent model years, the price won’t be much cheaper than new. The biggest drawback has always been the floor, but since they are changing to a composite flooring, that’s really great. The next level up of RV is a Casita (has a fiberglass floor). The carpet on the ceilings is marine grade and helps with the moisture. I know it’s a little weird and people call it “rat fur”, but it keeps the moisture down.
God i wish they had them in Australia 🇦🇺 😢 White is good in the summer 😊EXCELLENT PRICES. we can't get anything like this is Australia. I have a very small car. Absolutely fantastic video. Really well presented.
This is an amazing tiny trailer especially with a bathroom for overnight use for the ladies👍but it would be so much more comfortable if there was just a rear sofa bed “option” for the outdated 1950’s diner booth dinette☹️
Glad you enjoyed it 😀 It depends on your vehicle towing capacity and it's always good to check with your RV dealer for which kind of hitch suits your vehicle. Thanks for watching!
I really like these campers! Two problems for us first is I have a 6 ft 4 inch husband and I believe your standing height is 6ft 2. Also not sure this would fit into our garage. It is a good value and I especially like the new lite version. We have no need for black tanks etc. So just having a simple portable chemical toilet and a sink with a simple portable water tank or even no sink would be fine. We traveled in our small camper from east coast to Utah in our current camper that had a simple set up similar to the lite and we were very comfortable.
Yeah, I love this trailer. As a solo camper/photographer who likes to be able to stay inside when necessary, the kitchen and bathroom are great. But it’s not quite garageable in a standard garage. I’d prefer the ability to have dinette and bed set up at same time, but that’s not a deal breaker considering the benefits of 13-foot length. But garageability is.
Another good option for extended boondocking would be for them to offer a package that includes a composting toilet like the Airhead with the urine separator hooked up to the black tank and a solar hookup for keeping the batteries topped off.
I really like the lite 9-14’ Taylor Coach. The cost could use a haircut since it went up. It made sense starting under $14k. Loaded they were under 18k just a few years ago.
I live 4 miles from the factory and I’ve alway wondered what they look like inside. They seem to sell a lot and I believe I saw a winter version or was it a ice house version sitting next to the entrance. It would be neat to see you do a video on it. Thanks for the tour!
Needs solar. Cute trailer. Photos should show being towed with the smallest vehicle that could pull it, not a pickup. Cost - 20K - 27K for this cute little guy.
Yes, pictures of smaller vehicles towing this model would have been a better representation, but unfortunately Scamp didn't have any available. Thanks for watching!
In the early 70's my boyfriend and I rented a 13' Scamp for the Summer Nationals(stock car races) in NJ. He had a 60's Impala and towed it just fine__in fact, the camper was so light I was able to maneuver the front end away from the car myself! I've loved the brand ever since. 💖😺 Apparently, the original idea behind the 13' Scamp was so a VW Beetle(old version) could go camping with a lightweight trailer! 💖🙌😺
Agree! solar panels or at least hookups for them would be a game-changer! Never camped before and wonder if my Accord could pull this...? I'll have to check the manual! Cheers!
Overall height is listed as 7'6" in the Scamp brochure, so if your garage door opening is greater than that, it will fit. My door is barely 7', so it wouldn't fit in mine! Thanks for watching.
I have always liked Scamp trailers, but when I finally pulled the trigger on a trailer I ended up purchasing an Intech Flyer Expore. It is also a 13 footer and doubles as a toy hauler which more suits my lifestyle. But with that said I still love the 13 ft Scamp and maybe one day I might get one.
I wish you could get a small camper with no bathroom but a bigger sink and bigger stovetop . There are enough public bathrooms that a camper could be made with the bathroom a choice or bigger kitchen .
I knew this comment was written by a male.... no offense. Not having a bathroom is a bigger issue for us ladies. But I agree, campgrounds do have bathrooms.
With packing cubes and using space in the tow vehicle, I think you could figure it out. But if you want a more “home-like” setup, it’s probably too small for your camping style! Thanks for watching!
Base prices were in the video...keep in mind that Scamp's are usually built to order, so pricing can vary. If you want examples, there are some pre-built trailers on their website which will give you specific prices for specific equipment levels.
I had a Casita, and think I could on a 13' Scamp. But this little trailer is not designed for people to be stuck inside. An outside propane hookup should be available for cooking outside, as well as an awning option. As for the fresh water, I'd do away with the black tank and install a compost toilet, and replace the black water tank for additional fresh water. Not designed for long boondocking, but would extend the stay.
So, the entire thing is mostly fiberglass. Why in the world would they have a cloth or carpet ceiling in the shower?! So it can get wet or damp when taking a hot shower?
Carry a couple 5-gallon buckets and lids with you and just drain your black tank to the buckets ? Put them on a rear carrier rack til you can get rid of it
I did not see it and Dayton didn’t mention it. I believe there are universal kits available, but I’m unsure if you can access all the points required to install it. I’d call and ask Scamp for a definitive answer. Thanks for watching!
I have a lifted 4Runner running 295's with soft offroad suspension and highlift bumpers and really want to get one of these because I'm very weight limited but am worried about the tow height and having a drop down hitch always scrape. Is there anyway to get one of these with higher ground clearance and some bigger beefier tires? I know it's not an overland trailer and all.
I checked factory prices on all models up to 19'. These have got to be some of the most expensive trailers for their size on the market. I kept looking for the Daimler-Benz logo somewhere and never found it. These folks have a very high opinion of their product. $25,000 standard model (above) up to $30,000 for the Layout A Deluxe. You can buy a house for the new cost of the 19'. Close to $50,000. And remember, the prices do not reflect the price of accessories, like the awning, A/C, Heat.... Keep your eyes open during the sales spiel. Add your accessories, then sales tax, the modifications on your current ride...this is not an inexpensive camper compared to many, many others.
As fiberglass, lightweight trailers go this is probably the less expensive one we have seen. Those who buy them, understand that they are paying a premium for fiberglass campers that will last them a lifetime. Thanks for watching!
@@DayHikerFromTheSix If the manufacturer feels the price is commensurate with the product then there should not be any fear of publishing the prices along with the review. Right?
I fell in love with Scamps at a 1976 camping show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. I called Bacas Minnesota to ask more information about them and they had an 800 number or the equivalent. That was a new concept in the 70s. At that point in time everything was long distance phone calls and they were picking up the tab, and the sales guy was yakking his head off, we must've talked for a half hour! I've always had the feeling that they were a great bunch of people who turned out a great product. I never had a scan because when my husband and I decided to get an RV he was 6'2" and just doesn't fit into small things like this and I really didn't want to tow with a bulky pickup truck or we would've considered the 19-foot, the mini fifth wheel. But I continue to admire Scamps almost 50 years later. What I admire the most is how little they've changed. The changes have been updated materials than flashy new products. There is a RUclips channel, Liz Amazing, and she highlights problems people have with their REALLY expensive brand new RVs. Lousy builds, indifferent dealers , indifferent manufacturers unwilling to address the many major problems in brand new vehicles that should never have made it to the showroom floor I'd be willing to bet that anyone who buys a Scamp will be happy with their purchase, treated well for any minor issues, and will never show up on her channel!
Unfortunately, we are starting to see more and more manufacturers switching to 12v only fridges, which we also agree, it's a deal breaker for most people, us included. Thanks for watching!
This is a Marine waterproof carpet so it should help with condensation and protect the RV walls from mold. But, just like with everything, you have to keep it clean, specially around the seams. Thanks for watching!
If you are asking if it should be winterized?! the answer is yes, specifically up in Canada or if you live in a cold winter State. Thanks for watching!
Storage is always an important part of your decision when buying a trailer because it's added cost. One of the reasons why we bought our Safari Condo Alto R1723 is because it's small enough to park in our driveway in the city. Good luck in your search. Thanks for watching!
I don’t believe we ever saw the actual price of that specific trailer, BUT it was a pretty common spec, so good chance they’d have one in the Available Now section of their website. Otherwise I’d recommend giving Scamp a call. Thanks for watching.
It just depends on what you value. I’m guessing you own a truck…you pay a premium on small campers because they are lightweight and car towable. In our case, we actually value a small footprint over size because it allows us to fit into some spectacular campsites. Glad you found something at a good price that fits your needs, and hope it serves you well for many years.
We own a Safari Condo Alto R1723 and we have the opposite problem! We camp in a lot of non electric sites and for the extra battery we purchased a 100 watts portable solar panel. For our solar panel, we installed a small solar charge controller in the battery box. A simple solution that goes a long way! Thanks for watching!
First off, the furnace should be standard, the fridge should be 3 way, and the black tank should be 12 gallons, and the gray tank should be 20 gallons, the fresh water tank should be 30 gallons minimum, 200Ah Lithium LiFePO4 batteries should be standard. At that price from $19,000 to $28,000 for that, it should be standard.
This is Marine Waterproof carpet, so it protects the walls from moisture, it provides warmth in cooler days and works as a sound barrier. Owners of both Scamp and Casita swear by it. Thanks for watching!
As Dayton mentioned in the video, Scamp customizes to order, so for those who live in less hot states or provinces (in Canada) can opt for no AC. Thanks for watching!
We have a truck camper which has much more capacity than this 13' scamp. We can run everything, carefully, for about 4 days. I can tell you that tiny black tank, 12v fridge and small battery aren't going to let you stay out long. Sounds like an overnighter or two days tops and that is using your utilities very conservatively. That fridge should be propane. Much quieter and less of a drain on battery. Those showers are useless with such a tiny water tank.
Our trailer has a 12 gallon black tank, and four of us can stretch it out to 4 or 5 days, so I figure 2 people should get about the same out of the Scamp. Fresh is definitely small but you can carry some water Jerry cans to keep you going. 21 gallons on the grey would get you 4 or 5 army showers plus washing hands and dishes for several days if you are careful. I agree on the fridge…but I think a 100 amp hour lithium battery with a solar suitcase would allow you to get by. It’s definitely not a boondocking special, but in a campground/state park environment, it should be adequate. I love truck campers, but they require a truck, which is the thing the Scamp allows you to avoid purchasing. So both have their use case, but they are different use cases. Thanks for watching!
Scamp doesn't offer the exterior colour options for the Scamp13' yet (hopefully in the future), so it might be something you would have to do yourself. Thanks for watching!
DOES IT COME WITH A CASSETTE TOILET.? BECAUSE THIS HAS A VERY SMALL BLACK TANK WHICH MEANS YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE DUMP SITE MORE OFTEN!! A CASSETTE YOU CAN DUMP AT ANY PORTA POTTY OR RESTROOM!! THEN YOU COULD EXTRA TO YOUR FRESH WATER HOLDING TANK!!
We are not sure if Scamp offers a cassette toilet and we agree that the black tank is small. You can check their website or even given them a call for more information. Thanks for watching!
He did give starting prices and typical well equipped prices. You can check the available now section on their web page for trailers that are built and for sale. Thanks for watching.
Having never owned a Scamp I can't speak to ownership experience, but I have spent time on owner forums (something I recommend any potential buyer does before making a purchase), and while there are certainly stories about issues, there are a lot of owners who love their Scamps, even among the folks who have had problems. It's never a bad idea with ANY brand to have an inspection to make sure you catch any issues while still under warranty. Thanks for watching!
Problems can happen with all trailers. It’s an unfortunate reality of RVing. Sometimes it’s due to neglect, overloading, etc., sometimes not. Thanks for watching!
When it comes to fiberglass, lightweight trailers this might be the least expensive one we've seen so far! Keep in mind that price will vary depending on the features and options you get to choose. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed looking at this trailer. They look so tiny on the outside that I wasn't expecting it to be such a complete package! What do you think, could you make this tiny trailer work for your camping style?

Right? They’re really old school simple and cool!
My aunt and uncle toured with a Scamp for years, towing with a Isuzu pickup.

I used to have one when I worked out of town. Bathroom, bed and place to cook is all you need. For one person that is hahaha.
It's a great small trailer with all the comforts of home! Thanks for watching!
I really regret getting rid of mine. I used to pull it with a Tacoma no problem.
Love that it has one seam. Oh my goodness what's going on with the RV industry and how so many companies are putting out crap products this one holds the test of time. This style. Like Bigfoot and escape as well. Great design.

Although 6 gallon black tank sounds small. We had a 50 gallon on our motorhome and never used more than 10% of it for three and four day weekend events.
Glad you enjoyed it 😀 We agree, we also think the black and grey tanks capacity could be more equally divided. Thanks for watching!
Great little trailers even greater price

Scamps retain their value incredibly well. If you look up recent model years, the price won’t be much cheaper than new. With the new composite floor, Scamp is nearly a perfect little camper. Thanks for watching!
I would be more concerned about the carpet collecting dirt and odors.

What is the wire going across the bottom under the camper at 4:33 ? Seems like it should be protected somehow.

Yes, totally agree! Thanks for watching!
Do you have any model with a cassette toilet? I would rather have a larger fresh water
tank !

What about an AC unit? It gets a little hot in the southern states.
AC is part of the options package. Scamp builds to order to meet your needs. Thanks for watching!
Can you get axles that accommodate much larger tires.
Not sure…I’d give Scamp a call to see if they offer any lift options. Thanks for watching!
With the Hot Water On Demand, do you have a circulator to use before the water temperature increases, so as not to waste water?

Our only advice is to call Scamp and ask the experts. That's a very specific question that may require some custom modifications. Thanks for watching!
It's Scamp 13' Layout 2. Layout 1 is without WC and shower.
Correct 👍 You can have the bunk beds option instead. Thanks for watching!
Does it have support legs on each corner of the trailer outside that reaches to the ground
Yes for the rear corners…I don’t believe the are offered at the front. Thanks for watching!
Right?
i am liking this!
Cheers!
I’m surprised they haven’t moved to a cassette toilet.
Thanks for watching!
Can you have a dry flush toilet?
I believe it's an option on the new Scamps. Thanks for watching!
Wonder why they’re using a fridge with no propane option. That’s a deal breaker for me. I’d also want to delete the stove.
Unfortunately, we are starting to see more and more manufacturers switching to 12v only fridges, which we also agree, it's a deal breaker for most people, us included. Thanks for watching!
Is there a Condensation problem? I was told they do. That causes mold, which many are allergic to.
This is a Marine waterproof carpet so it should help with condensation and protect the RV walls from mold. But, just like with everything, you have to keep it clean, specially around the seams. Thanks for watching!
Is it winterized..
I am wondering same thing.
If you are asking if it should be winterized?! the answer is yes, specifically up in Canada or if you live in a cold winter State. Thanks for watching!
how about a composting / dry toilet?
We don't believe they offer it but please check their website or give them a call and they will be happy to help. Thanks for watching!
Carpet on the ceiling in the shower really? I would think that would create major mold issues.
That was our first thought exactly but this is a Marine waterproof carpet so it shouldn't cause any mold issues. Thanks for watching!
i want to buy one but i need a park to put it in. like a camper site that dont cost much.
Storage is always an important part of your decision when buying a trailer because it's added cost. One of the reasons why we bought our Safari Condo Alto R1723 is because it's small enough to park in our driveway in the city. Good luck in your search. Thanks for watching!
Cassette toilet should be an option
We've had a lot of comments asking for a cassette toilet. Maybe Scamp should really consider having it as an option! Thanks for watching!
how much just the way it is in video?
I don’t believe we ever saw the actual price of that specific trailer, BUT it was a pretty common spec, so good chance they’d have one in the Available Now section of their website. Otherwise I’d recommend giving Scamp a call. Thanks for watching.
9:45 what is that wiring, looks like Scotchlok connectors, which are truly awful?
Note sure. Thanks for watching!
I'm going to look at the 16 foot.
Let us know which model is your favourite 👍 Thanks for watching!
Those prices are absolutely ridiculous, I bought a brand new 22 ft toy hauler for 21, jayco
Why not a composting toilet with no black tank???
That could be an option. Thanks for watching!
There's no solar -- some of us are allergic to gas -- propane , and we are very used to electric !!
You make all good points, but this is a pretty basic and minimalist trailer. The price reflects those features. Thanks for watching!
@DayHikerFromTheSix That's a SCAMp
I rode my bicycle across the country 3 years ago with everything I had in 4 bags. Didn't need any gasoline. That's a nice little trailer, though.
If you are thinking of upgrading to a camper, check out our walkthrough of the new Scamp Lite 😀 Thanks for watching!
@@DayHikerFromTheSix sorry. I haven't driven a vehicle in 13 years.
Why the carpet on the walls? It seems it would hold onto musty smells, dirt, etc.
This is Marine Waterproof carpet, so it protects the walls from moisture, it provides warmth in cooler days and works as a sound barrier. Owners of both Scamp and Casita swear by it. Thanks for watching!
@@DayHikerFromTheSixMarine grade carpet dries out and airs out by being in the open air on a boat or back porch, not a closed up camper.
Option for AC?
As Dayton mentioned in the video, Scamp customizes to order, so for those who live in less hot states or provinces (in Canada) can opt for no AC. Thanks for watching!
One year warranty??
Very common in this industry.
Needs a a/c unit in Florida
The Scamp13' has a wall mounted AC, as shown in the video. Thanks for watching!
@@DayHikerFromTheSix where at I don't see it going outside
Ditch the black tank and get a composting toilet. Much better.
A lot of viewers seems to agree on this point 👍 Thanks for watching!
Can you paint the exterior?
Scamp doesn't offer the exterior colour options for the Scamp13' yet (hopefully in the future), so it might be something you would have to do yourself. Thanks for watching!
Optional furnace ?
You can keep it.
With Scamp you can custom order to your needs. If you live in Florida, why would you need a furnace!? Thanks for watching!
DOES IT COME WITH A CASSETTE TOILET.?
BECAUSE THIS HAS A VERY SMALL BLACK TANK
WHICH MEANS YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE DUMP SITE
MORE OFTEN!! A CASSETTE YOU CAN DUMP AT ANY
PORTA POTTY OR RESTROOM!! THEN YOU COULD
EXTRA TO YOUR FRESH WATER HOLDING TANK!!
We are not sure if Scamp offers a cassette toilet and we agree that the black tank is small. You can check their website or even given them a call for more information. Thanks for watching!
Sanity.
Thanks for watching!
Who wants the price
He did give starting prices and typical well equipped prices. You can check the available now section on their web page for trailers that are built and for sale. Thanks for watching.
How much does it weigh?
Scamp13' weighs 1500 Lbs (without a bathroom) with a tongue weight of 200 Lbs. Thanks for watching!
:( too expensive for me.... really cute though
Thanks for watching!
last a lifetime.........1 year coverage........not good.....lots of poor reviews on Scamps.......there nice looking though!....Great Video!
Casita trailers have a fully enclosed fiberglass bottom. The scamp I believe is wood.
For 2024 the composite floor was optional on the Scamp models. As of 2025 the composite floor will be standard on all of their models 👍
@@DayHikerFromTheSix nice upgrade.
That's ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!
A lot of problems with the frames cracking and scamp pretends they know nothing about it, fyi
Problems can happen with all trailers. It’s an unfortunate reality of RVing. Sometimes it’s due to neglect, overloading, etc., sometimes not. Thanks for watching!
how much is the Weight?
1500 Lbs (without the washroom) with a tongue weight of 200 Lbs. Thanks for watching!
No insulation?
Scamp uses a Marine waterproof carpet on its walls for insulation, moisture control and noise reduction. Thanks for watching!
The only thing I don’t like is the exposed plywood on the bottom. Oh well maybe not anymore with the exposed plywood.
Scamp offers a composite floor which soon will be standard on all their trailers. Thanks for watching!
standing height trailer for whom ? I'm 6' 6" .
Very true...standing height for us short people. Thanks for watching!
Yep, 20k to 27k dollars is quite a lot for something that small.
When it comes to fiberglass, lightweight trailers this might be the least expensive one we've seen so far! Keep in mind that price will vary depending on the features and options you get to choose. Thanks for watching!
