Matt Hughes was why I watched UFC for several years. He is MY guy and I loved every fight he had. Everything Matt said about UFC parties to watch with your friends to stop watching because they sold out with too frequent fights is 100% true. He did fight in the golden age of the UFC and he was an amazing champion. What an incredible guy. I wish Matt & his family the very best and to continue staying blessed.
After watching this video/interview, I now have a new found respect for Matt Hughes. This is one incredible man with an abominable spirit! Matt is a first class individual that is very humble. Now, it's his time to shine as a father and husband! Much respect
Illinois born and raised. My first job was working on a neighbors farm. Walked over every day at 6 in the morning and fed all the animals. Hard work but id do it all over again. Matt makes me proud to be from Illinois.
I’ve always loved Matt Hughes and can remember watching his fights back when you had to wait quite a while for a pay per view and just loved his way he went about it and how he carried himself, wasn’t a cocky fighter or a talker.. that man always came to work with one goal in mind your will is not going to outdo my will and he’s such a smart guy and can tell that from this interview on the mindset and how he was brought up like that of the old days an old soul.. love his story
Damn I thought he got better ...my hero I was a wrestler in highschool this guy along with my team mar vista wrestling 2002-2006 love my team thank you matt
The accident was not part of the interview. And Matt sounds great. I believe this interview must have been taped just prior to the trainwreck back in 2017. One of the best welterweights of all time.
I was hopeful that this was recent, and Matt made a complete recovery.. Unfortunately, this was from 2017 before his accident. Now, I'm just happy that he is still alive.
Matt Hughes was an absolute beast!! I hope all is well with him after his near fatal accident😢I had the privilege to watch Matt inside the octagon! The man was/is a true warrior
I became a huge Matt Hughes fan when I was in the Navy. This is back when the UFC was only in the 30’s. I have followed his career ever since. It’s great to see him make such an amazing recovery.
Interesting video on Matt Hughes. Thank you. This interviewer obviously is unfamiliar with actual work. Farmwork can exhaust a newbie in 15 minutes. Hard working men and boys do it day in day out for decades. God bless our farmworkers and their families. 👍🏽
It’s great to see Matt’s recovery from the accident. He looks great and the medical science he has available to him hopefully will be available to more regular people sooner rather than later
Even with the darkness that lives in the shadow of Matt Hughes, he had some unbelievable moments within that octagon, that will always live on. Definitely breaks your heart to learn how he may or may not actually be as a man in general. Staying within his career, I’m grateful to have witnessed many of these moments as they happened. Wish Matt the best and he as an athlete will always be one of my hero’s and on my Mount Rushmore of fighters from what I call the second coming of the UFC. During the era of prime Chuck Liddell, Randy Courture, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Matt Serra and the beginning of GSP, Anderson Silva Karo Parisyan
Unbelievable! He has progressed so so much. This is the same man that got hit by a train and suffered a severe brain injury. He had had to learn how to do everything all over again. Truly amazing! Happy to see matt back to himself
Thanks Matt!! A time in my life when going to a neighboring small town and throwing down was common. The best years of UFC were when you were the champ! Never been so happy when you overcame the Trigg cheap shot and took him out…just wish you could have been on top giving him even more of what he needed!!
The farm boys i wrestled in high school were the toughest men i have wrestled. In fact, there were 2 men in high school, the same weight and age as my brother and I. We never won a match between these 2 fellas and we met them had lunch and discussed our childhood wrestling practices. The only differences we all agreed on, and is, the reason these guys were tougher than us, was, we ate fast food, shopped at the groceries store, and we had no animals to wrestle with, really, these guys would wrestle the baby cows. Loved my time in this sport.
The mans an inspiration. I grew up in western Kentucky in the 80s doing that farm work. Tobacco. Hay. Farm work made me into a hardworking and mentally tough and strong as f for my size. Matt used this to achieve greatness. The kinda work does breed a kinda hatred for the people who has it all give to them. The funny thing is theat we were actual the lucky ones having to work and learn. Builds strong men. Getting hit by a train. To come back to this. What a triumph. Well done hughes. I would love to train with you. Couple old farm boys
Ohhh yes!!!!!Matt sounds like his old self again!!!God can heal any wounds 🙏..Great job Matt,I'm 43,I remember when I was younger,me and the boys would order ppvs to watch Matt.
Matt sounds so much better! Put an instant smile on my face to see he’s recovered to the point he’s at! Matt’s a UFC legend I loved watching fight! Best wishes to Matt! Happy to see you in a better place!
I've watched so many of these interviews and haven't seen a bad one. The only thing that would make them better would be to let the guests wear their own style - show their personalities.
Grew up w farm kids and wrestlers just in different state. Matt is from same cloth, only better. I understand his work ethic and it’s a great way to raise your sons.
Respect to Matt Huges one of the best welterweights in UFC history. He’s a hard working farm guy. Watching Matt fight in the early days helped make me become a big MMA fan. He trained at the Milatich camp with a bunch of killers at the time they were the top camp in mma for having a bunch of top level fighters. The heavy weight champ Tim Silva, guys like a young Robbie Lawler. Pat militich, list goes on. Matt was a clean fighter never did steroids but he fought guys juiced to the gills this was pre usada no real drug testing. He still had a very successful run in the ufc multiple defending welterweight champ. He had some of the most entertaining fights I have ever seen. He fight prime BJ penn, Carlos Newton, GSP, frank trigg a juicedto the gills Thiago Alves. Matt helped put UFC on the Map it’s guys like him that got the sport to the level it is today. Without guys like Matt UFC would of went bank rupt and died that’s a fact.
One of my favorite fighters to live. Matt was a weapon, I’ll never forget when he slammed and knocked out Carlos Newton when he himself was basically out from the triangle.
So wonderful that Matt is speaking just as good as he did many years ago! It saddened me that he said his dad never said 'i love you' even though he did.
@@Quaerite_VerumYeah they conveniently left that out in the description. For whatever reason this interview is being reposted on social media & forums..majority of ppl think he's made a full recovery, fooled me at first as well

Matt Hughes is one of my favourite fighters of all time; along with Georges St Pierre. But how old is this? It's certainly over six years old as Matt had a truck crossing accident in 2017. I really wish the titles would say when it was originally recorded.
One of my favorite ufc fighters sad later in life he would get hit by a train hope to see him back to this someday even if he never steps back into the octagon
I agree those were great times, not so commercial ( understanding is a business) But I often remember the times of Rich Franklin, Matt Hughes and Chuck Lidell.
This guy is tough as nails. Not too long ago he couldn’t walk or talk due to the injuries he sustained from the train accident. My favorite UFC fighter by far. We are the same age and both from Illinois and I’m glad I’ve never came across him at a bar. I used to get in fights but this guy would have tore me apart. I would have liked to see him fight Connor or Khabib.
That guy in the day was our "country", all American Hero. He made the UFC worth watching for alot of us. Not taking anything from any other fighter, he was our favorite.
After hearing Matt speak after the accident and knowing an injury of that magnitude and how he would probably never speak the same…. How many people think this is from after the accident is bizarre.

You might have a different perspective if you read his autobiography. A great fighter; a terrible human being.
Same. Him and Rich Franklin.
I literally could not believe how incredible Matt sounds!
