"Simple human truth. Uncompromising scholarly standards. They're connected." Yes, they are. We work so hard to get the good grades, homes, cars, titles at work, etc. without fully understanding what it's all about. We are to learn and grow and help others learn so that they may grow.
I love that her teacher cared enough about the material, and about her and her knowledge and education, to give this huge and elaborate explanation, to make sure she understood. ❤️
My my most recent tattoo is a nod to this & wish this platform would allow me to share it. It is a comma slashed to also represent the number 10… the actual number of the holy Sonnet that is referenced in this scene. I’d had thought of it for years, but it took the deaths of my Stepmother & Father in law to cement in my psyche that it was an important reminder and message that I needed to hear daily. The only thing that separates us from life & life everlasting is a breath, a comma.
TryptRS I know this reply is 6years, but I saw this play 17 times with Judith Light playing the title character. I was breathless at the end. This movie does this play justice!
My absolutely favourite film and the absolutely favourite clip.

what a genius Donne and what a great two actresses!!!
One of the greatest scenes ever
Because of this scene I now look at any rendition of Donne's 10th sonnet through the eyes of a comma.
Donne's
Perfectly said (about the comma)
