    please, no fan theories about Jonah and the gunshot bang. It was at Mel. Jonah had a plan to return to his old life in Chicago and that was clearly established when he asked Charlotte if she'd go get the milkshakes with him when they got back, so mentally he was already back home and couldn't wait. Mel became an abrupt, massive wrench in that plan and Jonah wasn't going to allow it. Furthermore, supporting this is what happened, he was aimed directly at Mel and Marty gave the approval to Jonah via his expression. And Jonah then shut his eyes to prepare for the kill-shot, as Buddy had taught him. Done. Boom. Mic drop. No plausibility for ANYTHING else

      The only thing better would have been if Jonah had of killed the private investigator and his mom for killing his uncle. Jonah was threw with her until she forced them to stay and even then he really wasn't to fond of his mom. That would have been a great ending. It's what fans were hoping for. To see Wendy go down and what better way than having the private investigator talking about the uncle's death over his ashes and Jonah come out and shot them both.

The last few episodes made a point to convey that they still love each other and are willing to do the most depraved things to ensure their relationship and keep the kids with them. @ramonalejandrosuare 2 года назад +5

      I agree. If anything, the ending suggests that they are partners in crime. Any sense of morality or even individual difference has been conditioned out of them by the dire necessity of their situation. They are both on the same page.

    • @TwoBs
      @TwoBs Год назад +4

      Yeah, I get people have a serious hate-boner for Wendy, but it couldn’t be any more clearer … they’re going to stick together. They’re meant for each other.
      Marty even told her after everything they’ve been through and did for each other along with their family, it basically sealed the deal that they’re going to remain with each other for their marriage and family.
      Wendy spent a big part of the show trying to show she can run things. She wanted to prove to Marty that she could do it and be useful. She did - she used her political act to help them tremendously. It took Marty a long time to come to that realization as Marty spend a big part trying to retain control. He let it weight heavy on his mind that he got the family in this mess with it being his sole responsibility to get them out.
      It’s why we hear them always arguing about being on the same page. Yes, the “same page” was in reference to their parenting, but it signified much more just as this video explained.
      In the end, they realized they both are in control and they both get things done together. They realized they need each other. Wendy doesn’t make him do things any more than Marty. They both make their own choices with their choices being for the benefit of them and their family. She doesn’t have to “make” him do anything … he does it willingly in the end.
      Hence the emphasis during the last few episodes on him actually telling Wendy out loud that he loved her and her telling it to him back with actual emotion in their voices. They’ve cemented their relationship with no turning back.

She would have kept that pistol on her and on sering the black SUV she would have turned her truck around and run. I know she faced every thing else head on. But she knew she was in deep shit this time. I do buy that Camilla would come to do it herself since it was her sons revenga. But she likely would have brought a couple of henchmen as backup. • @alleyinn1
      @alleyinn1 2 года назад +8

      Because the ability to lie to yourself about your own morality is essential ... even to immoral monsters. Once Ruth had served Wendy's self interest of reuniting her with her kids, Wendy's lie about Ruth's worthlessness became more difficult - which activated the modicum of conscience she has. (Wendy's set of ethics are selfish and broken.. She is IMmoral)
      I don't think Marty really lied to himself about their morality. He oscillates btwn a disconnected, mechanical Rainman and a simp. Marty knew what they were doing was wrong but was WILLING to do wrong to please/save his loved ones. Marty didn't have to lie to himself (he didn't have to bc he was A-moral).
      That's why I think they had their different reactions.

    • @Dilmahkana
      @Dilmahkana 2 года назад +13

      I think Marty was able to run through the scenarios a bit quicker and came to the conclusion it was impossible to save her. The way he looked at Claire when she caved was freaking stern in a 'you fucking coward' kinda way, but I didn't get a hint of desperation even at that point. I think Wendy was riding high from everything going perfectly, and now something has suddenly go wrong, someone hasn't gone with the plan, she can't control it. Add that to her recent 'reconcilliation' with Ruth in the ep, that emotion and connection is understandable. That's how I saw it :) Maybe Marty from S2 or S3 would've reacted differently?

    Great analysis. Make a part 3 focusing on the spiritual messages. Wendy tells the priest she doesn't need saving, but begs her father (in the role of God) for forgiveness, but he's just another corrupt and fallen man who judges her harshly. The priest asks Marty if he believes in a God who offers unconditional love but he too rejects God and believes in a transactional relationship. The dichotomy between the Byrds understanding of God and his unconditional love and forgiveness and their flawed human belief in earning their way to grace by (eventually) doing good works thru their foundation is a central theme to Ozarks storyline..

Camilla had all intention of going to see if he was alive still after the hit attempt and gaining authority before his death. Camilla and her son had this planned to take over long before Navarro's death. Wendy and Marty knew that she would continue to try to kill him that's why they told the senator that they didn't need his help anymore to get Navarro of the SDN list. Priest, or that lobbyist guy who sold his stake in the casino to Ruth and Rachel? It’s rare they let a cash cow just end instead of squeezing dry with a second rate spin off/sequel. Ex. Myans, Call Saul and El Camino. I’ve been hoping they’ll do a prequel to SOA that focuses on the life of JT(John Teller) and the beginnings area of the Sons or maybe something that lead from Gemma giving Able the Sons right before she was killed. Who is interested in a follow-up movie when they killed all the best characters. Do you enjoy watching the Byrde’s torturing people and boasting about how untouchable they are with their smarmy faces? Ruth’s death is a middle finger to the fans who loved the show and Ruth’s character. The producers knew that everyone expected Ruth to shoot Wendy, but due to them not giving a damn they decided to twist it the other way. No spin-off. What’s done is done.

      I won't lie, I was rooting against The Byrdes when Marty started to do everything Wendy told him to (such a spineless simp lol). But the end does show that the cycle of violence will never stop.
      One thing nobody is talking about is if Three will continue the cycle of violence. He'll definitely go to Rachael for explanations and Rachael who hates Wendy and is already terrified with her current situation will definitely point to the Byrde family's direction. Another question is, will Rachael be in the state of mind to run the casino alone? Remember she's the one who actually killed Nelson and is dealing with the guilt. Finding out Rachael got killed with make her lose it. What we'll never know is how she'll lose it.
      Maya, who was getting close with Mel, will also find out about Mel's disappearance and take it up with the Byrdes.

      Your "GOODNESS" is revealed thru moral decisionss or by a commitment you've displayed to proactively bring good to others beyond your immediate sphere of self interest.
      I think both stories would be harder to believe if either character were initially GOOD. Jesse in BB was a "good person" as we had lots of evidence of his character and conscience... even tho he made enormous mistakes. Not sure anyone on Ozark was "good". Wyatt probably the closest .

      @@alleyinn1 Both men found themselves in a situation they had to make some very harsh and dangerous decision because of the situations they got themselves into. It has nothing to do with them being good or bad, just means they made poor choices with very dangerous consequences. Good people do dumb things because of circumstances. Look at Marty and his wife. You can clearly see who was evil and who was power hungry in that dynamic. His wife was so evil that her kids didn't even want to be around her. Marty was in it to save his family, while his wife was in it to gain power, money and status. Huge difference and if you can't see that, then we are wasting time going back and forth.

      @@guguemichaels Our difference may be partly semantics and how I define "good". Im not arguing that either were BAD men initially. But I didn't see evidence of either being especially GOOD either.
      I see them as average people at absolute best. Both men had MANY CHANCES to get out early on (especially WW) that they didn't take... that a GOOD person who had made an isolated mistake WOULD HAVE taken.
      The prison is chock full of people who do things to protect and provide for their families. And they are doing for families who have a helluva lot less going for them than the Byrds or the Whites. What defines a person as GOOD is how they act under challenging circumstances, not ideal ones.And a GOOD person would never go along with Wendy's mess.
      Their mistakes REVEALED their character... vs shaped their character. Greedy old men with no excuse.
      Jesse is a bit different bc he was so young/not fully formed, unloved and also an addict. The others were motivated by greed, selfishness and indifference to the suffering of others.

The audience spent the majority of the last season thinking about how terrible that crash was and trying to figure out who would die. It seemed impossible that everyone could survive, and yet what happens? Everyone gets out, although there's a little fear that maybe Wendy is dead.. but nope, fine and dandy. I typed this comment on your Part 1 review... not realizing there was a Part 2. We picked up on some of the same themes but would be curious about these thoughts-
    Ozark was the first TV show I watched in years. Adore the show and despise the Byrds. Maybe bc I binged watched it within a few weeks and could remember details, but all of these points are pretty obvious. Two other things-
    How the Byrds mirror the Snows. Initially Darlene Snow appears to be an unfathomable demon but Wendy's progression shows us how Darlenes are made. Both are fueled by a ruthless righteousness and sense of entitlement to protect & defend "their people" at the expense of everyone else.
    To me the sense of tunnel vision on protecting/optimizing YOUR ppl vs ALL ppl is at the root of American greed and this is Ozarks allegory.. Most middle/upper Middle class American families turn blind eye to the impact of maintaining their financial and physical security has on the rest of the world. The true cost to the less fortunate & vulnerable (Langmores are used and expendable pawns and foot soliders). The cartels represent corporate America and international criminal/political syndicates who build the wealth and do the behind the scenes dirt needed to prop up our quality of life. And the government is complicit in all of it.
    The harm the befalls everyone EXCEPT the Bryds is acceptable collateral damage.
    The ending simply tells us that it is what it is... and will continue to be passed down for generations to protect their personal interests. I think the role of the women/moms as the fiercest protectors of their lifestyles (with a smile & a perfect blonde coiff) a is on point.
    Transient awareness and guilt only surface when forced to see the suffering in close view.
    The few who are righteous / justice warriors (FBI lady, PI, Wyatt) do not prevail. Such is life in America... perhaps everywhere.
