I view the Ozarks as a take on corruption. In the Ozarks, you see corruption on all levels throughout the series. Even those of faith in the early seasons, even the United States government does this so as long as Marty can keep the money rolling in. I think that is my biggest takeaway on the series for me. Because we even see how money even pits family members against each other. Wendy and her brother. Wendy and her son. Omar Navarro is against his whole family really just not his sister or nephew. You could even see Navarro's own words become corrupted because he says he doesn't kill kids and then threats to do just that in the next episode. Money and power are great and all but, at what cost did Marty and their family pay for that?

I wasn't crazy about the final minutes of season four being an adequate ending after being with the Byrds for 4 years. It completely felt like a cliffhanger reserved for leading into season 5. A great, final ending for the show would have been each of the Byrds, alone, looking straight into the camera, at us, speaking to us their thoughts about the last 4 years and what they did in the future as a flashback to us. I would even include Camilla is this final farewell. For myself the ending did not seem final that if the producers wished they could return with another season next year.

Many people witness dead relatives on their death bed. Closer to the after life than earth, it’s a very common phenomenon. Even many who survive major, life saving surgery, speak of seeing dead relatives.
Ruth’s days were numbered the moment she avenged her cousins death. At first it was only Wyatt, but the full cast of family characters as she began pulling down the old to make way for the new signalled she wouldn’t be alive to see her project completed. Death was no longer one day soon, but crouching at her door…
Ruth’s dignity when her killer emerged out of the shadows was breathtaking.

A few more notes about Ruth's death- only Wyatt can see Russ before his own death and its a premonition in a sense that the day of her death she's with her dead family. Furthermore Marty can leverage Nelson's body on her property as her fault to use her as a further scapegoat post story should she need proof Nelson didn't just vanish lying in wait to get Camilla down the line. Still I wish they did Ruth better but it did wrap up well enough. Where I loved Breaking Bad for the stranger interconnected nature tied to far less realism, Ozark excelled in being more realistic but the continuity a little more subtle. BB will still be my fave but Ruth is my fave character by a long shot in this show

Aside from how whiny they made Ruth become (girl, we get that you lost your cousin and who you perceived to be your “love”, but you killed your uncles and shrugged off your own dad dying, you’ve zero room to berate others over morality or actions lol), I was largely annoyed with how Zeke went out the window when it came to the plot.
After Wyatt … nada. He was brought back to Ruth after being known as a missing child, but then it’s like the kid disappears from the plot entirely.
All that time spent where Wendy talked about getting him back and Jonah being concerned about him, everyone upset Darlene had him, the whole issue of social services trying to take him and Wyatt proposing … to then be but a lost asset in the plot like Wyatt’s guitar. Filler.
We saw that baby go from a newborn to almost a toddler. Kid grown on the show, but due to how much was happening in the last few episodes … Zeke who? lol No one cares, no one speaks of him, Ruth doesn’t have him, Wendy doesn’t bother, kids never mention him ever again.
Just annoying when so much of a show is spent on certain things to only have those certain things became forgotten background noise because they’ve introduced too many new people and plots with all new issues for the last season …

Just finished watching the whole show. I decided to watch it after seeing the trailer because Ozark reminded me of Breaking Bad. I'm not sure what the majority of the viewers' opinion of the ending is, but I'm really angry and disappointed. I feel like after all the crime and bad deeds the Byrde family committed throughout the show, they didn't deserve a happy ending. In my opinion, they should have faced consequences for what they did. All the deaths they caused and lives they ruined and they get to go off into the sunset a happy family. Overall, Ozark was a good show, with the exception for the ending. The ending just didn't make sense to me and the show would've been a great one if it had a better ending, in my opinion.

The fact the corrupt people who used strong arm tactics and threats, stepped over everyone in their way, while dealing directly with massive crime that causes so much suffering go free- that's pretty normal in the real world, to be fair.
Ozark has never really been a show of 'satisfaction' (which is where I think it differs hugely to breaking bad). I remember never being that 'pumped' or hyped by people's actions or "moments", but I was hyped by the show's overall writing of character and the world (if you get me?). In the more thematic story (the Byrder family's efforts to create a better present and future for their family and doing anything to ensure it), it makes sense to me. Just becaues we all loved Ruth, it doesn't mean she deserved the 'happy' ending. Just because the Byrdes are the definition of toxic, it doesn't mean they would pay for their sins.

@@Dilmahkana i agree with you, corrupt people make it in this world meanwhile the nice honest ones are stepped on all over…BUT even so the ending was so underwhelming to me, for such a great show I was expecting the shock factor or a big twist at the end but no…Jonah coming out and shooting Mel was so predictable. • @Dilmahkana

@@andreita002 Just thinking out loud, has the show had much shock factor or big twists? Ben's death wasn't either, because they wrote the build up and acted it so well. The shock was the slow realisation what Wendy was doing and therefore was capable of doing. The Camilla 'twist' was more a realisation that the power hunger and revenge element is everywhere. For me, again thinking out loud, it was a sad shock that Jonah came out with the gun, I thought Mel was just gonna kill them as he seemed on edge and a bit off. The Byrd's solidarity is so demented and that was *the* perfect way to show that.

I find it a bit odd that Rutgs cookie jar ended up with the Birds, when literally Ruth had it all season long.

So I was curious as to your opinion of introducing Soo much in the last season. I loved the show through it all and your analysis makes it more so, but I did feel like they were trying to trade hands too much towards the end. Just curious on your thoughts

    Unpopular Opinion-
I actually felt satisfied by the ending. I guess most fans are sad about Ruth dying and the Byrdes getting their way out. But if you ever watched the show closely Ruth's death was pretty evident from previous seasons. The Langmore curse, Brydes (birds) invading the locals and destroying them, and most importantly the way Marty would backout on Ruth. Always had an intuition that even though Ruth killed her own to save Marty, he would never do the same (which sort of makes a good betrayal plot). He did care for her on surface level but could never put anyone else above his family. So a situation where Marty gets to save Ruth but risks his own, he would never choose her like she did.

I spent nearly the whole 4 seasons hating Ruth, hoping that the cartel, Wendy or even Charlotte would do for her and yet when Ruth finally does gets offed I was a quite sad and more than a little annoyed about it.

I have only watch little clips of this show. That's all I need to get an idea of this screwed up show. These parents screwed up their kids beyond horror. It scarred them for life. If she and Marty were taken out in the last scene of the show, I wouldn't cry. The kids would finally be free.

He didnt put the hit on Omar but he was stealing money from the cartel. He was going to be killed for that crime regardless, that's why I think he confessed to the hit.
