The whole part 2, especially the final episode, kind of felt like they were building up for a 5th season. It's like they remembered in the final episode, "Oh yeah, it's ending." and everything was just rushed to make the time. The series overall was just brilliant and at the very least I found the last few episodes underwhelming. Just seems like there is more to it. It just seemed like a cop out to finish it all.
The Ending was rushed , but kinda knew what was going to happen , this is what happens when you juggle Rattlesnakes in one hand and lit dynamite 🧨 in the other ( someone was definitely going to die )
I think Ruth’s death also represents the epitome of the ‘Langmore Curse’. Right when Ruth is finally working towards a new and better life…it’s taken away.
3 is the only left “the magic number” n the only langmore form what we know who is truly clean bc he was young n they never let him get involved in hardcore criminality.. he breaks the curse I hope bc he’s left w Ruth’s estate, his pivot point is one of riches
Ruth dug her own grave, she could’ve assassinated Javi in the dark without anything knowing, or could’ve left the country with three, but either way she would ALWAYS have to look over her shoulder. Ruth’s death was inevitable.
@hyperstone2100 but what happens when he starts to find out tho, later? The inquisitive, mis-adventurous nature of a Langmore, plus the gossip of close-knit community is recipe for disaster. Poor lad is gonna be messed-up for life.
The car crash has meaning. In the first car crash Wendy had a miscarriage and drove her and Marty apart but the second brings them all together. It also shows how they have become nearly invulnerable to anything.
Wendy did not deserve a happy ending ...but Ozark will go down as one of the greatest series of all time ! The acting was impeccable from an absolutely amazing cast.
She did and she didnt. She didnt from the perspective that she was a shit person, although her father had a role in her turning out that way. And she did because she was always a quick thinker and a master at getting them out of all kinds of trouble.
She didn't get no happy ending. The actions she did will haunt her until the day she dies. Only on the appearance does it seem like she won. But at what a cost
@@davemartinez4143 I don't think it will haunt her. Marty, maybe a little. They showed that they were willing to do anything in order to save 'the family'. In the end, they can justify all the bad things they did because if they didn't do it, they'd all be dead. Just my opinion. :)
I hated that Ruth died, but the way she was killed off was true to her character. Her line "Are we gonna do this or what?" Clearly communicated that not only was she not scared of Camilla but she was in fact annoyed by her rambling monologue and would rather die than to have to listen to another word. That's why her character was awesome.
@@venivediicommented4046 wasn’t bad writing. Ruth knew it was a Cartel vehicle. She was confused because nobody was in it. Ruth didn’t deserve to die though.
@@pluto2909 think back on the entire series on how almost everytime someone came to her trailer she was quick to grab a shotgun or be on edge thinking someone is out to get her even if it was Wendy sometimes coming to her house. She also told the woman that was crashing with her to shoot anyone who comes to the trailer no questions asked. Now all of a sudden her guard is down as she walks around the empty vehicle all care free. It wasn't in her nature that's why I say bad writing.... Never did nothing like that the whole show....
@@venivediicommented4046 I legit expected her to drive off as quickly as possible. But she just… walked up to the driver door? Lol what? Kind of ham fisted her death. Anything would have been better than her just accepting her death.
I would've like that Camila asks Ruth if the Byrdes knew about Javi's death, and Ruth saying "no". Then Camila kills her. Like even knowing she was gonna die, Ruth would still save Marty.
I could imagine Wendy being proud of Jonah going all Darlene Snell on Mel, but I couldn't accept Marty smirking and acting so encouraging as his son so brutally kills the only honest man on the show. And Mel is smart enough to figure out that Wendy killed her own brother but is dumb enough to confront them alone at night after breaking into their home without telling anyone what he knows? Come on!!
Right! I was like wtf is this. Maybe he didn’t think they had the balls to just off him on their own property. Least of all one of the kids. Still though, the logical and smart thing to do would be to leave with the evidence. That plot thread could have been great and potentially gotten the Byrds into some deep shit! But, no let me just sit here on the trampoline and antagonize these lunatics and tell them exactly how I’m going to ruin them.
@@hunglo9917 agreed, I admit I'm biased as I wanted to see a spin-off of his life (lol) but the smirking from him and Jonah was horrible, I think it's good that a filmmaker can make us feel unsettled but such a jump in character for them was jarring but not a good way. And another problem is some would interpret it was a happy ending, that it's good thing to kill mel
Mel is a true believer. He passed go, and ended up out of the loop like agent Miller. The Byrdes are American capitalism : evil, calculating , and mostly victorious with no guilt.
well, he did get warn bruh lol. She told him in one of the episodes to leave and start a new life. he never listen and continue to get deeper. he already was a dead man walking. the Byrdes are a cartel already, made by their own
Nope. She deserved it. Many other characters were just in the way and didn’t (Ben for example) but Ruth got her entire family dead then killed a drug lord. But she should survive? Whaaat?
She had been very reckless, remember she stole Marty's money in the very first episode. He warned her the cartel was gonna kill her. She was a hot head that never thought about the consequences of her actions.
Exactly what I thought. People acting shocked she’s dead when the Bryds begged and warned her not to kill a cartel leader lmao. People are so emotional these days 😂🤦🏾♂️
I knew Ruth was going down. I'm pissed bc it was just so much unanswered unresolved. And I hate when the screen goes black and you're supposed to just wonder???
that’s why this show was so unpredictable, it would be obvious for camila to die and be killed, tho it wouldn’t be a conclusion, just a spiral into more problems.
Jonah has been threatening strangers with a gun since buddy was alive. He finally used what he practiced all those years. It is a completion of his transformation into basically what his parents are and it goes full circle. I can’t believe Loopers didn’t mention this.
@@DamienBaka He's not a "Badass" he's become just as bad as his parents now. It's amazing character development. But I'm sad Jonah actually made the choice.
The car accident is incredibly symbolic. They think they are “untouchable” at the end, when in reality their car accident is proof that they can lose everything in an instance.
@@FU1LMOON Not unless agent Miller steps in and brings all the corruption down at this point (FBI deals with the Cartels/Brydes). She would have to bring evidence and go public with her findings and risk losing her job to do the right thing and bring the house of cards down once and for all.
That's not how the Langmores are. Ruth would rather have died than abandoned her family name. I feel like this end made the most sense. Of course, everyone would have loved it if she could live a peaceful life with three, but it really just wasn't realistic, this was the second best thing
Thank you for reminding me of this. She had a chance to get away and chose her fate. Still makes me feel some type of way seeing Marty being somewhat unfazed by her death. Ending scene really made me see them in a different light
The last episode embodied everything that has been going down. In Breaking Bad it was the descent of Walter into a criminal Kingpin, in Ozarks...it was the descent of family as a whole who have justified each and every one of their actions with the thought that it was "necessary" because it was all for "survival'. Wendy was the first to descend into the darkness (and consequently lose her humanity) with the hit on Ben. Marty, Jonah and Charlotte thus far, had all done things that compromised their morality but not their humanity. The descent for Marty was to give up Ruth in the final episode in DIRECT exchange for his family's well-being and guaranteed safety. In all this time, all these decisions.... we went along with them as the viewer and at times agreeing with these dark decisions with Marty and Co. The show up to that point had also forced the viewer to put themselves in their shoes and ask "would you have done the same?" and to some if not maybe all the answer would be a resounding "Yes" because it is afterall...to save your family. In the climax of the end, Ruth is killed but we knew that Ruth CHOSE that destiny by not listening to Marty. So the death can, again, be justified by thinking "She brought that on to herself". She made the ultimate plunge into the abyss by taking the life of Javi because she had lost the only thing that kept her grounded on this Earth and that was Wyatt (who had always been her emotional support/Moral compass). Jonah and Charlotte, who seemingly wanted to leave Marty and Wendy ended up reconciling with Wendy with her explanation behind the decision to sacrifice Ben, and it was for them, for the family and in her saying that "You can go if you choose to" ultimately led them to finally see that Wendy (by not forcing them to stay with her) really did love them if she was willing to let them go and make that choice...and yet they CHOSE to stay. At this point, the entire family were finally on the same page. ALL the choices was for the love of the family and they understood that in the end, which brings me to the final scene.... Mel just could not leave things alone man. And ended up grabbing the urn with Ben's ashes and show up after EVERYTHING....EVERYONE that was sacrificed to finally achieve their freedom and he was the only element threatening that. Seeing Jonah pickup the shotgun and shoot, while Marty smirked in pride and nodded in approval gave me no doubt that it was Mel who he shot at. Jonah made the final descent along with Charlotte as she watched in compliance as he put the final signature to the contract of their "freedom" with the blood of Mel but the kicker is this.... WE also... made a choice in our heads about this...some of us may have wanted Marty and fam achieve what they have fought SO HARD AND SO LONG to achieve and so we chose to believe he shot Mel. Some of us may have chosen differently, and chose to want to have Jonah shoot Wendy or Marty but that wouldn't make sense either because at any point in the series Jonah could have sabotaged the family plans and there was no time more apropos to do just that than in the Ben arc. So to me it makes perfect sense that he loses his humanity to protect has family, the same way Marty and Wendy have done all series long by shooting Mel. Camila Navarro had pointed out that Marty and Wendy were just like her....loyal to the family and willing to do everything and anything for them. After the Gala, The Byrdes were the new Navarro Cartel of The Ozark's and they have ascended to be the new Kingpins, fully endorsed by FBI and being "bulletproof" as Wendy stated with their newfound political power. I thought it would end in all their deaths but no...in exchange for their souls to the Devil they gained power only a select few achieve but...all this... at what cost?
This is everything i been thinking. Although i think charlotte made the decent in Season 3 when she basically threatened Helen's daughter to stop looking. And we see in Season 4 it worked.
Wow!!..now I see it clearly. Had a few questions about the finale and now its much clear, everything falls in to place and clicks. Thanks for the clarity.
Great summary! Do you think this brilliant series is also a morality tale about power, greed and corruption in our society? Judges easily bought, dozens of crimes committed for money, pharma company behaving just like a cartel etc etc. We even have a line at the end from Mel “Do you think you are the Kennedys?”. Appreciate your thoughts…
I have been telling reddit this over and over. they swear it it's realistic and a total 180 with the characters. I wonder if someone's world view impacts how they view the ending.
Ruth’s death was inevitable, but I wish it was done better on-screen than her just walking up to a suspicious SUV parked on her property, Camilla walking from behind the trees and eventually shooting her. I wish it would’ve been written to where Ruth has the gun in the glovebox still, takes it out when she sees the SUV. Her and Camilla both shoot at each other, Ruth gets shot in the stomach while she shoots at Camilla, maybe clipping her with a bullet; Ruth stumbles all the way to her couch that was there the entire series, sits down and then dies. It would’ve been a better ending for Ruth than what was shown in the series finale.
Nah, that’s wack. Ruth should’ve bossed the fuck up n been living in a high rise or Darlenes property with top notch security after killing Javi. I knew she was gonna die, just kinda weak how she went out. Very disappointing, imo.
I think Ruth dying is so upsetting because we’ve all known people who we felt had so much potential. It’s like they can’t get free from their past or the messaging they got from their family of origin. It’s really hard to watch someone drown in a tide pool of generational screw ups. 😞
She also killed her own uncles…but at the end many people think Wendy is a monster. At least Wendy killed her brother to save her family, Ruth did it for herself and destroyed Wyatt’s future at the same time. She basically got all her family killed and was still building a house on her family’s grave? I didn’t mind her during the first two seasons but she started to annoy me more and more after that.
in real life you dont get away by killing a cartel member bruh lol. even if you live in us they will send mercenaries to execute since they have thousands of members in usa specially in California and Texas
They begged Ruth not to go after Javi but she did anyway, against her better judgment. It came back on her just as she had finally gotten her life together.
@@johanzo88 brydes tried protecting ruth. They tried protecting Ben. They tried everything they could to protect everyone but Ben and Ruth both fucked up in their respective ways
Rewatching the second part and I feel really bad for Ruth. She finally got to be on top, build her big house, have a clean record, and never get to experience any of it :(
Yeah. Super sad. You should watch Women of the White Buffalo. That is some disturbing shit and it’s happening right in the heart of America. One woman said they found a little toddler boy wandering out of a man camp. He was kidnapped and raped and there is nothing that can be done about it. Native Americans can be killed without repercussions or justice.27 girls were missing last year in just May alone and there was no major news outlets reporting on it. Of those 27 girls are 7-16 25 were Native American. This is happening right now in SD and all over the country wherever man camps are and wherever oil pipelines are being dug
A perfect ending.. The message is clear.. Life's not always fair and justice isn't always served..Despite destroying countless life's and leaving a trail of utter destruction everywhere they go, the Byrds are now more powerful and united than ever. They are the true villains of the show by the end..Mel represented virtue.. He took the deal and got what he always wanted but the guilt was too much so he had to come back to take down the Byrds..he obviously had a gun when he confronted them but never imagined Jonah(still a kid) could blindside and kill him, signalling the entire families descent into darkness . Say goodnight to the good guy!
The lack of security measures for people doing so much dirt to me was always unbelievable. People just would roll up the Byrdes property and Ruth and thems little trailers in the cut. Just how easy Javi was able to kill her cousin and the Crazy lady. How Ruth just walks up on a car at night, abandoned without a gun .
The ending was exactly how it needed to end. The crash was like a rebirth for them for everything they had endured. Ruth had to endure her Langmore Curse and there had to be consequences for killing Javi as Marty explained to her. And Sattem trespassed and broke and entered so killing him would be justified.
No doubt a great series! Great cinematography, directing, writing - everything. But the ultimate shame of it all is that Jonah, one of the more innocent characters, fell into a deep hole of darkness in the end. The series like Breaking Bad is ultimately a representation of the world around us as it is today: a lack of empathy, moral compass, and common human decency.
The car crash was super significant. The first car crash split the family up. And the second one was the thing that finally brought the family together.
Marty didn't eerily foreshadow Omar's death to Camilla. He told her she had the green light to kill him during his transfer. Here's a question though. Camilla tried to kill Omar the first time because she believed he had killed Javi. Why did she still kill Omar after she realized that somebody else had? Also, after learning that it was Ruth Langmore why didn't she kill all of the Byrds too? She would have realized that Marty had misdirected both her and Omar about Javi's death. And it should have been implausible to her that the Byrds did not know Ruth had killed Javi, especially since she believed they were close enough too her to risk their own lives to save her. Lastly, why did Camilla accept Clare's answer as final after she had folded so easily under questioning? It was more reasonable to suspect the Byrds were somehow involved in Javi's death. Camilla could have pushed Clare with one more question as to whether anyone else was there and that would have been it for the Byrds. I liked the finale but this chain of events doesn't quite add up.
she killed Omar because she wanted the power and also if he were to find out she tried to assassinate him he would have her killed, so it was a 2 birds with 1 stone situation
@@lyricahm3370 I get the kill Omar first bit. He did find out and gave Marty a number to call to have her killed. But it still leaves the question of why she was so gullible on the Byrd's involvement in Javi's death and the cover up. Especially how they tried to make her think it was Omar.
@@drjohnson98 well i dont think she was really that gullible tbh, she kept asking questions about the day her son died until eventually she squeezed the true answer out of someone, i think a lot of her game was playing the semi innocent sister when Marty first got to Mexico this time around so he would let his guard down around her
I wish there was one more episode to really wrap up the story in the end to know if the family succeeded or not. But at the same time it could be trying to show it’s a non stop cycle of craziness
Agree with you about it being a non stop cycle being the theme. The murders of Ruth and Mel, respectively, would open up new problems that Marty and Wendy will have to scramble to resolve.
_Ding ding ding,_ you just described the theme of the entire season. What did you want to happen even, Wendy and Navarro have a UFC ring throwdown w/ Marty as the ref?
All the Langmores died. All the Byrds lived. It reminded me of when an invasive species comes in and destroys the existing eco system. I didn't care for the ending personally. I felt the Byrds had to pay some kind of price. To see them get off scot free didn't land well with me.
You're right. The Byrdes didn't have a single repercussion for the huge number of crimes they were involved in. Not even a separation. They ended up as one united family. What's the moral of the entire series?
@@umoizestanley2546 The moral is that the rich play by a different rule set than the rest of us. And that it's easy to find some justification for every immoral act you commit.
The finale was the logical culmination of the entirety of season 4. If you think it was rushed or unintentional… you’re blind and need to re-watch while paying attention this time
I think what really happened, is Jonah shoots Mel, but it reveals a robot underneath his skin and he starts shooting lazers at Jonah. But Marty blocks it with his suit which is made out of magical space rocks that are indestructible. Then all the Byrds join hands and say, "We call upon the ancient power of the God's of the birds!" and they all morph into bird warriors and they battle Mel out on the lake. That's clearly what happened.
Jonah shot the Goat pot and Mel is still alive. Hear me out, Ben's ashes were the only evidence Mel had against them and shooting the Goat pot would scatter it all on the Ground and they can now easily chase Mel away from their property for this time. It's easy to understand why Jonah closed his eyes before shooting Goat pot as he loved Ben... but he had the upper hand with the shotgun, it's simple, Jonah Is Not A Murderer !!! It's totally against his whole character arc.
Nope. No ashes, but Mel still knows the truth and would pursue the Byrd's along other avenues. Jonah becomes a killer, which in the end is the ultimate failure of Marty and Wendy. They corrupted their children, while all along they tried to insulate them from their evil.
Shotguns are not very accurate. Even if he hit the pot, he would have taken half of Mel’s torso with it. Mel is dead. All loose ends are tied up. The Byrds get to “fly free”…for now.
I actually like the ending. If people want more seasons badly maybe in a few years they can bring it back. Who knows but the ending is open ended and I like that.
Yeah like I’m not happy with Ruth dying but I’m ok with how it ended. They’re horrible people and they know it and have to live with it. But they got their family and millions of dollars so?
@@rachelreynolds5863 Thing is, it does not show if she is actually dead or not. Looks like a heart shot, but they could easily say it missed by a millimeter if they want her in another season.
@@rachelreynolds5863 problem is if Ruth is dead who is going to launder the money through the casino - seems like the cartel would just pull Marty right back in by threatening his family - in my ending Wendy gets killed because she causes too much trouble for the cartel after she isn’t allowed to be a big shot politician because it doesn’t serve the cartels interest, Marty is a slave to the cartel and kids leave and Jonah lives with his sister as guardian until he goes to college - happy ending except for Ruth dying - I fixed it for myself ;)
I think the ending tells you everything you need to know imo. The cycle of violence and crime continues because what other way did the Brds have out of that situation.
Marty and Wendy DID NOT want Ruth to die though they were not even given a choice! It was either they die if they try to tip off Ruth or do nothing. I love Ruth. I love, love, love Ruth and I was so sad she died but it made sense. It was very much like a Greek tragedy. Ruth was stuck, then she found herself and legitimate success. In the moment she’s cleaned her name, the choices she made lead to the moment that took her life. I was so sad! The only thing I didn’t like was the abrupt ending. It felt weird but I understand it and I’m growing to like it. The Byrds are an invasive species, like the birds Jonah wanted to hunt in season 1. Yes the Byrds are out of their obligation but at such a high cost.
I don’t blame the Byrds. At the end Ruth was playing checkers not chess. She had every opportunity to better protect her life, especially after she took Javi out, imo.
Right!! Like she was planning on leaving town when Darlene killed Frank Sr, but she decides to stay in town after she killed a cartel boss?? Like how dumb is that?? 😔
My ultimate show. Every single episode had me on the edge of my seat. My thoughts were both Marty and Wendy would meet their fate from the Cartel, Jona and Charlotte would be placed on FBI's witness protection program and Ruth and the Cartel would come to an agreement to run the Snell's operation amoung much more given to her by the Navaro Cartel. I was in total shock when Ruth was killed!
People always want good winning against evil. It doesn't always happen that way. There are people who lie and cheat their entire lives and nothing ever happens to them.
And thats what the Byrds has done throughout the series, Wendy & Marty changed their kids around, that’s why I wanted to see Marty get killed not Ruth , that would have been a good price to pay
@@jamesconklin120 Marty was never an evil bastard. He just made smart plays to stay alive in a harsh world like ozark. No different then how humans behave today when it comes to getting things they want whether it be legal or illegal.
I wasn't happy with that ending, so many unanswered questions 1. What happened to Zeke, Agent Miller and Three? 2. Why was there so many moments that seemed out of character? (Omar not realising soon enough that he was being set up, Ruth walking into Camilla's trap) 3. Why didn't they show us the exchange between Ruth and Wendy's dad after Jonah and Charlotte returned to the motel?
1. I think it's open to interpretation (you could see Agent Miller exposing the Byrdes and the FBI for doing secret dealings with a drug cartel, going public especially if her boyfriend got killed). 2. Omar was asking in prison where they were taken him and at some point he may have given up (realized he had no chance of escape and understood his fate). I'm pretty sure he knew the procedure after the gun was pulled on him. He turned around and pulled the trigger knowing it was empty before he pulled it (so they could cover it up, something he probably had done before or heard about, being the head of a cartel). That's why he didn't turn and try to run in the woods (died facing his enemy and not running like a coward). What was more out of character was Marty beating a rando in traffic, meanwhile he couldn't standup for himself when it came to much anything else. Unless they were trying to show he was changing, however, that wasn't the case and he went back to being spineless Marty. 3. Probably cut for time, didn't know exactly how they should do the reactions with the kids, may have seemed repetitive, could have worked well if done right to show that they now realize that there mom had it rough and she's not all to blame for the way she is or how she acts (got it from her father/he wasn't ever father of the year like he portrays to his grandkids).
Probably due to Netflix canceling their funding for any new seasons. They had to just quickly wrap it all up and finish the character’s storylines but getting rid of them or killing them off. I was unsatisfied with the ending personally. Felt rushed. I know Jason Bateman had more plans for the show. I personally think he would’ve ended up running the cartel without the intention of doing so. Kinda like his whole situation already. But we’ll never know I suppose. Just a lot of time cut keeping a lot of questions unanswered.
@@tristansigert9420 Netflix canceled the funding?? Is that actually true? If so holy shit they are stupid. Probably the best Netflix show ever made and will be for a while
God, this was a good show. The ending was disappointing to me, but very fitting to the series. I wanted Navarro to survive strangely. I wanted so badly for Ruth to survive, But she messed up so majorly by killing Javi, so it was inevitable. She went down like a boss, anyway. I wanted Wendy to lose. I was rooting for their family as a whole but ugh, I wanted so bad to see Marty stick it to Wendy just _once_ . Their relationship frustrated me but it was strangely sweet. I was thinking throughout the entire show why Marty always just did what Wendy said even if he found it crazy or disagreed, I thought it was probably because he loved her, or he was just a pushover, but deep down he likes her strength and the chaos she brings. It was the same thing with Darlene's husband. Anyway, I weirdly like how it ended with the whole family becoming corrupted. Of course, it's a heartbreaking thing but it shows a sad reality, that the ruthless and the rich always come out on top in this world, and it sucks. I mean, Ruth was not the most moral person in the entire show, but she was sort of the heart of it. Marty stopped being the heart when he threatened her. She was just about to get her life right, and right as she's about to get all she wanted she dies. It was like they extinguished the last bit of light left in the entire show, and solidified the notion that the good don't win. Ugh, this is me rambling and all over the place because I literally just finished it, what a messed up masterpiece of a show
I really want someone to make a video of just Sam's scenes and story arks together in order - it would be such a wholesome story of a man who was manipulated and driven to a gambling addiction but then got baptised and had a new wholesome life 🤣
Just finished watching the whole show. I decided to watch it after seeing the trailer because Ozark reminded me of Breaking Bad. I'm not sure what the majority of the viewers' opinion of the ending is, but I'm really angry and disappointed. I feel like after all the crime and bad deeds the Byrde family committed throughout the show, they didn't deserve a happy ending. In my opinion, they should have faced consequences for what they did. All the deaths they caused and lives they ruined and they get to go off into the sunset a happy family. Overall, Ozark was a good show, with the exception for the ending. The ending just didn't make sense to me and the show would've been a great one if it had a better ending, in my opinion.
They will never be happy or free. They have to cover up Sattem's murder and u know Maya in the FBI is going to be suspicious bc she and Sattem had a thing. Rachel is another loose end. So is Frank with the KC mob. They are going to be on guard gir the rest of their lives. I feel sorry for Jonah and Charlotte. Three Langmore was the only real innocent.
Watched the last episodes. Thoroughly enjoyed this Series. Have been watching a half of episode each day to prolong the end. Now what do I watch in comparison. I feel lost tonight. So thankful for 4 Series. Best ever. Thanks
I myself was initially asking, why would Ruth be so stupid and walk into that obvious trap (approaching the parked car)? She’s smarter than that. Honestly I don’t think that was her being dumb, but her accepting her fate. She immediately knew Camilla knew the truth once she saw the car and was well aware that she would never escape the cartel. This is evident by the fact that she never bothers to try and fight or run. Ironically, by killing Javi, Ruth insured the Byrds’ survival but doomed herself.
If your reading it right, then maybe her telling the new sheriff that she killed Javi was more than just getting an innocent man out of jail. Perhaps she wanted to point him in the right direction if anything should happen to her.
It was kind of a nice touch that right before killing Ruth, Camila felt some respect for her defiance in the face of certain death, the part of me would have liked to have seen Ruth being saved in the last minute by say... Rachel or Tree, killing Camila and in doing so screwing the Byrdes once and for all with the FBI, but life sometimes just isn't fair, and I guess that was the point.
It would’ve been even more earth-shattering if Three had tried to shoot Camila and missed. Camila would shoot him, making Ruth watch her last relative die, and then be killed herself.
Jonah closed his eyes but Marty & Wendy both decide to look at Mel as hes killed. Maybe theyre really starting to enjoy the violence. Marty looks almost proud of Jonah. Wild...
It was a proud parent moment several times. Marty was proud when Wendy flagged Jonah and he saw the work Jonah was doing at the hotel too. Make no mistake they had embraced the criminal lifestyle by the 4th season. It’s funny the only thing that was beyond them was election tampering. That’s where Wendy drew the line. Not murder, not heroin dealing, but voting fraud.
This was probably the best ending we could have hoped for. All the actors and crew have done an amazing job this last season and I'm glad it's finally come to a somewhat 'bittersweet' ending.
It fit with the entire show to be honest! It’s as if people forgot what show they were watching - Ruth coming out alive, with no consequences for Javi would not have been consistent with the tone of the show which has always been about class dynamics.
That final scene was just so abrupt. Felt like maybe it should’ve had one extra episode to show how the partnerships between Byrds, cartel, and FBI played out
Tbh i didn't even realize i was watching the last episode until it was over. but that's just proff of how good this show is at hooking you. If they had five more episodes i'd been watching lol
No, that’s not what’s important. That’s fluff, the FAMILY is what’s always been thematically important. They had a perfect ending, no need for garbage fan service.
There are quite a few Easter eggs in the last 14 episodes, so I’m assuming it ended like this: - Camila gets “hit” by the Chicago asset; bodyguard as well. - Marty goes to Mexico (as ordered by Navarro in episode 14); - Marty secures himself as the Cartel boss (he showed his intelligence and cold blood the last time he was there and secures it with the FBI; - Marty and Wendy get divorced to protect the kids; daughter helps Wendy with the foundation and son with the money-laundering. THE END 😂
there was another hint too. I feel Camila told the priest to order that hit, that wasn't a coincidence. that truck was sent to kill them but they never die lol. that's why in episode 14 i could hint they were being a target i listen closely and got the hint when he said this: Priest: "Its not healthy to be around so much death". Wendy: "You're overreaching... AGAIN" Priest: How many times does God have to point at you before you take notice? I believe that accident was your LAST WARNING" He literally telling them they want them death!! but the Byrdes are super smart
Eh I kinda liked the anti-climatic bad prevailing over good story arch. Kind of mimic's real life happenings and honestly was done well. All ends were tidied up and very little room left for interpretation. Fit the show well and overall it was a great series.
Of course Jonah shot the PI. The network just did not want to show it due to the mass shootings by kids his age in the USA. If this were a series about Liberia, they'd happily show 8 year-olds toting AKs. But this is how it ended. Jonah was in this position once, forced to protect his family, and could not shoot. Back then, he was still coming to grips with the family's business. This ending scene proves several things. Jonah is now firmly entrenched and committed. At the gala, he said he would go legit "at least until I graduate". He will follow in Marty's footsteps. The look he gave at the end before ti went black, was to assure his parents that, "I got this". The tux, the slicked back hair...even Ruth saying he was all grown up...all foreshadowed this moment. By shooting the PI, he is a man now. In the Byrde family, you don't get a car as a rite of passage. You get a kill.
Amazing way to end the show, in my opinion. No possible ending could've made everything feel right, and I think that's the point. It leaves you with a strange feeling that it wasn't a proper conclusion, but the show itself felt like a string of never ending consequences. Even after freeing themselves from their obligations to the cartel/FBI, the birds will most likely always have to deal with the psychological consequences now. Brilliant.
The concluding message I hear at the end is that - 'only wrong can succeed' - along with the flip-side - guilt -and all it's associated "charities" and "do-gooding". In the end, the under-class (Ruth) with the immense struggle for a better life, succeeds, only to be brought down by the same forces that provided the lift. Such is reflected in the times we live.
Maaaan I FINALLY finished the second half & Im upset....imma miss that show. Jonah finally stepped up. I didn't see Ruth's death coming that was my girl smh but she made her choices
I really enjoyed the ending of Ozark and thought it to be one that honored the series, and its characters. Typically, in fiction, whether it be a novel, play or film, there is/are protagonist(s) (sometimes known as the ‘good’ person) whose struggles throughout the story (whether they survive or not) somehow and in some way sets the moral universe right. For instance, the protagonist in Breaking Bad (though flawed as he might be), in the end, though he does not survive, he does in essence, set the moral universe right again. Poetic justice is another literary device very common in most literature where ultimately virtue is rewarded, and vice punished. In other words, characters are living in a structured universe where ultimately character’s fates are determined by adherence to a universal moral code. Ozark does not embrace these fictional troupes. The writers of Ozark appeared less interested in honoring this usual fictional construct but rather set about dismantling it altogether. The two protagonists (Marty and Wendy) as flawed as they may be, go about surviving not because they do good or evil but rather because of their stern application of what is most practical. And in this world, it is not doing evil or doing good that is rewarded, but rather an adherence to the pragmatic. There is no structured universe to set things right or to punish evil or to reward the good. There appears to be no moral universe whatsoever in Ozark that is set to reward or punish any character. The universe in which the characters of Ozark operate is a chaotic one without moral structure. Choices matter, but not because of any adherence to right or wrong but rather their level of practicality. The Byrdes survive not because they were evil or because they were good but rather because no matter how difficult the decision, they remained practical. They never allowed any illusions regarding a moral universe to cloud their judgement. Ozark is not an indictment of any characters but rather of our world. A world, the one we live in, is not like fiction. There is no moral universe that rewards the good and punishes the evil. Unfortunately, in our chaotic world, we know that the innocent suffer and that evil can be rewarded. That is the world we live in. And Ozark shuffled off the usual fictional troupes to bring that to life. The car accident scene that was repeated in the series is an important one. It contributed nothing whatsoever to the plot or to character development. So why was it included and not only included but repeated? I think it was included as to demonstrate the randomness and chaos of life. To demonstrate that at any point anything can happen without warning and without adherence to some ordered universe that dispels justice. “Buy all of the people.” If anything is the controlling agent in Ozark, it is money. From the very beginning monologue in the series, to the very last moments, we see that money is the center and controlling agent in this world. Ozark presented an uncompromising look at a world where money and the power it grants as the only measure of things. And it and not the moral universe was instrumental in determining who was rewarded and who was not. “Patience. Frugality. Sacrifice. When you boil it down, what do those three things have in common? Those are choices. Money is not peace of mind. Money's not happiness. Money is, at its essence...that measure of a man's choices.”
The car accident represents the family getting passed (emotionally) every trial and tribulation that occurred between the four members. It’s the moment when they understand everything between them was/is trivial in the face of death. Surviving the accident as a family unit manifests itself as the underlying focus needed for Wendy and Marty to allow Ruth to die and also manifests as the conviction required for Jonahs to not hesitate when shooting Mel at the end to protect the entire family….Incredible writing and acting.
The writing was a let down this last season. Similar to Wendy’s ambitions, the writers bit off more than they could chew with too many story arcs and characters. The resolutions felt hastily done, like a band aid covering a gash. One thing that they did well, however, was in using dress symbolism to signify that bad wins in the end. Ruth, in white dress, killed in the end, while Marty, Wendy, Jonah and Camila all wearing black came out out on top.
Loved the show, hated the last part. It was terrible. And the car crash that was shown/teased... Lol. Had 0 effect on the story, was just a boring metaphor. The introduction of the father, Mel (boring character) having so much screen time, Nelson/Javi dying like it was nothing. The priest and sister were also tedious and way less threatening. They could have just given Marty more episodes of leading the cartel in Mexico rather than opening that many storylines.
Navarro's sister is unconvincing. She's in no way half as threatening as Darlene Snell or even Helen the lawyer. And the new FBI Agent replacing Miller does pretty much nothing. Mel and Wendy's dad are unnecessary characters as well. Marty and Ruth are sadly somehow underutilized in the FINALE. Wendy is just the perfect amount.
Well, we don't know that Jonah killed Mel for sure... Also, the Byrdes could have had Clare's goon neutralize Camila's goon at the gala and then still warned Ruth...?
after watching the ending. You think back to the moment where everyone came out in their outfits for the event. The dad and son were standing across each other as the mom and daughter stood across each other foreshadowing the ending. The apple dosnt fall too far from the tree. Also that ending made me crave some cookies.
@@cato451 in the context of who it was seeking the revenge Ruth got off light. Had Camilla had one of her people do it instead of her you would’ve thought the murder was way over the top when in reality sometimes the Cartel makes examples such as dismembering peoples entire body and sending pieces to their loved ones. Camilla just wanted revenge for her son’s death and wanted to be the one to do it. It would look that simple in real life.
better ending right here… Ruth gut feelings keeps her alive and obviously knows that car was danger and figures a way to kill Carmella. The FBI now has no choice and puts Marty in charge of the cartel. Private eye still gets killed by the son. The End. Fyi Ruth getting killed after letting the audience get invested in her really sucked. Good show with a terrible ending.
Ruth called in a double homicide and disappeared with the couples baby for 24 hours doesn't sound sus..... They even said it was all over the news. Not like they would have kept her in a room and integrated her for hours (especially about the inheritance) or anything..... Plus, the car crash everyone walked away like nothing. Wendy took a second to get out, but was fine and dandy walking around later in the day. Seemed out of character for Ruth (street smart) to just give up like that instead of doing a U turn out of there
She new they new when she saw the SUV no use in running it was already over. Camilla was in charge of the cartel and the only thing keeping her alive was Camilla not knowing who killed Javi.....
Ruth deserved what she got. If it wasn't for Marty threatening her with telling Javi's mother what really happened, she would've never helped them get their kids back. She did things without thinking and thought she could just live happily ever after
This ending was great. The bad guys (the Byrdes) win. The few remaining moral characters (Ruth and Mel) get murdered. Because in life sometimes (probably more often than we'd like to admit) the bad guys win and the good guys lose. The last line of the show sums it up brilliantly. "You don't get to win... The world doesn't work like that" "...Since when". The Byrdes won but at a major cost. They're completely corrupt and have no conscience left whatsoever. Their kids have spent their teenage years laundering money for a drug cartel and covering up murder after murder. Jona kills an innocent man for threatening his family. Jona and Charlotte are gunna grow up just as unscrupulous as their parents. But they'll be rich and powerful (Albiet without a soul). Very well done
Navarro was a person of honor, He would never hurt kids unlike Camilla. Byrdes should've never taken sides with her. They should've gotten Navarro off of the SDN list and transfer him.
I don't think Jonah killed that man. He probably shot the jar of ashes. Why in the world would the parents and sister let him take a human life. If anything the father could have asked for thr shotgun so he could do it.
What did you think of the ending?
The whole part 2, especially the final episode, kind of felt like they were building up for a 5th season. It's like they remembered in the final episode, "Oh yeah, it's ending." and everything was just rushed to make the time. The series overall was just brilliant and at the very least I found the last few episodes underwhelming. Just seems like there is more to it. It just seemed like a cop out to finish it all.
The Ending was rushed , but kinda knew what was going to happen , this is what happens when you juggle Rattlesnakes in one hand and lit dynamite 🧨 in the other ( someone was definitely going to die )
Was hoping it was Wendy instead of Ruth - Wendy is irredeemable - now I need to go cancel my Netflix lol

I was really hoping Ruth would make it in the end. I feel really bad for Three. He literally lost his entire family and doesn't even know why
Ruth dug her own grave, she could’ve assassinated Javi in the dark without anything knowing, or could’ve left the country with three, but either way she would ALWAYS have to look over her shoulder. Ruth’s death was inevitable.
“Mini Darlene”
Three made it through 4 whole seasons without knowing a thing. He'll be fine lol
@hyperstone2100 but what happens when he starts to find out tho, later? The inquisitive, mis-adventurous nature of a Langmore, plus the gossip of close-knit community is recipe for disaster. Poor lad is gonna be messed-up for life.
They ought to make a spin off movie focused on Three...something like El Camino lol

Absolutely! A serious runner up to great series like Breaking Bad & The Soprano's! Loved it from beginning to end!
She didn't get no happy ending. The actions she did will haunt her until the day she dies. Only on the appearance does it seem like she won. But at what a cost
It was hardly a happy ending, though. Their hands are so dirty it will haunt them for the rest of their lives.

I legit expected her to drive off as quickly as possible.
This!!!!
Me too!
good point
She did ask how she find out therefore indirectly asking was it the byrdes ...
Yep but with her not begging or bargaining she kinda did this
I could imagine Wendy being proud of Jonah going all Darlene Snell on Mel, but I couldn't accept Marty smirking and acting so encouraging as his son so brutally kills the only honest man on the show.
He defo told his fbi gf tho coz he knew he would get her locked if he chose his morals over his old job.

Jonah has been threatening strangers with a gun since buddy was alive. He finally used what he practiced all those years. It is a completion of his transformation into basically what his parents are and it goes full circle. I can’t believe Loopers didn’t mention this.

The car accident is incredibly symbolic. They think they are “untouchable” at the end, when in reality their car accident is proof that they can lose everything in an instance.
The car accident also represented a family bonding moment.

Not according to Wendy.
It was just proof they deserved to win.

The fact Marty offered Ruth a new life and new name/start and she denied it, is so sad.
That's not how the Langmores are. Ruth would rather have died than abandoned her family name. I feel like this end made the most sense. Of course, everyone would have loved it if she could live a peaceful life with three, but it really just wasn't realistic, this was the second best thing
Also another parallel between characters. His family rejected a new life with new names too.
Thank you for reminding me of this. She had a chance to get away and chose her fate. Still makes me feel some type of way seeing Marty being somewhat unfazed by her death. Ending scene really made me see them in a different light
Even though they told her not to kill Javi, in the end Ruth at least knew Marty and Wendy still didn’t give her up to Camilla.

Three will inherits all of it, that’s one good thing.
Maybe I’m wrong but how many times when Ruth was in trouble did she have a gun?
The ending was exactly how it needed to end. The crash was like a rebirth for them for everything they had endured. Ruth had to endure her Langmore Curse and there had to be consequences for killing Javi as Marty explained to her. And Sattem trespassed and broke and entered so killing him would be justified.
No Ruth died
Bro killing Sattem is not justified at all lol. Wendy is getting to ur head
Yea the commentator doesn’t know what foreshadow means. It wasn’t a good season. It lost gravity. Felt like I was watching b movie.
she killed Omar because she wanted the power and also if he were to find out she tried to assassinate him he would have her killed, so it was a 2 birds with 1 stone situation
@@lyricahm3370 I get the kill Omar first bit. He did find out and gave Marty a number to call to have her killed. But it still leaves the question of why she was so gullible on the Byrd's involvement in Javi's death and the cover up. Especially how they tried to make her think it was Omar.
@@drjohnson98 well i dont think she was really that gullible tbh, she kept asking questions about the day her son died until eventually she squeezed the true answer out of someone, i think a lot of her game was playing the semi innocent sister when Marty first got to Mexico this time around so he would let his guard down around her
The Byrd’s were liaison to the FBI, with them she has immunity to run the cartel
Navarro death will never be known to the cartel
I wish there was one more episode to really wrap up the story in the end to know if the family succeeded or not. But at the same time it could be trying to show it’s a non stop cycle of craziness
Agree with you about it being a non stop cycle being the theme. The murders of Ruth and Mel, respectively, would open up new problems that Marty and Wendy will have to scramble to resolve.
Ruth should’ve gotten on her knees and told Camila “More shoreline than the coast of California.” 😂
The dialogue with Camila at the Gala before the end is something powerful and very close to BB finale as intensity
Wendy didn’t face ANY consequences for her reckless actions. She actually got everything SHE wanted. Most disappointing character arcs ever.

But it’s not like they live happily ever after, we don’t get to see that. Jonah killed a cop and that can mean more trouble in the future
Its a symbolims of life...the rich always survive
You're right. The Byrdes didn't have a single repercussion for the huge number of crimes they were involved in. Not even a separation. They ended up as one united family. What's the moral of the entire series?
@@umoizestanley2546 The moral is that the rich play by a different rule set than the rest of us. And that it's easy to find some justification for every immoral act you commit.
The Langmores were garbage people too. If the Byrds never showed up…they’d be dead or in jail. It’s who they were. They would find away to mess up
The finale was the logical culmination of the entirety of season 4. If you think it was rushed or unintentional… you’re blind and need to re-watch while paying attention this time
I think the ending was great! Showing powerful people always run over other for their benefit and eventually win!
This is the world we live in
Exactly! Wendy says it herself when Mel says you guys don't get to win.. the ending was perfect i loved it.. its the world we all live in.
This is EXACTLY what I was thinking
How about he shoots his Mom....she deserved it....and you actually never see who he does shoot
I appreciate you writing all of that for this joke 😂
Wtf
Can confirm. I was one of the trees there.
@@michaelgurnick8422 the whole thing they was try to avoid

I actually like the ending. If people want more seasons badly maybe in a few years they can bring it back. Who knows but the ending is open ended and I like that.

Same
Marty and Wendy DID NOT want Ruth to die though they were not even given a choice!
Ruth got her pound of Flesh. Against an organization that does that for their existence
I think it was a great ending but it also left the door open for an Ozark movie if they decided to do that.
i hope they do a movie instead

I wasn't happy with that ending, so many unanswered questions
1. What happened to Zeke, Agent Miller and Three?
2. Why was there so many moments that seemed out of character? (Omar not realising soon enough that he was being set up, Ruth walking into Camilla's trap)
We said the same thing after finishing it last night. Too many dumb, out of character moves by everyone.
So many scenes in the final episodes that were skipped that I really wish they showed. Very frustrating
@@tristansigert9420 Netflix canceled the funding?? Is that actually true? If so holy shit they are stupid. Probably the best Netflix show ever made and will be for a while
The worst ending to one of the best shows. The writers just got lazy!

That look from Marty in the last scene is eveything!
Thank you why didn’t she just reverse I’m still sad that she’s dead but cmon
She did the noble thing at that point. The cartel was never going to stop they would have ended up killing three.
Ensured
She was kind of drunk
What are you smoking?
It fit with the entire show to be honest! It’s as if people forgot what show they were watching - Ruth coming out alive, with no consequences for Javi would not have been consistent with the tone of the show which has always been about class dynamics.
Yup agreed
Yea...the first was just gonna keep putting a new person in charge and making the family help...story would had never ended
@@williamhilton6270 You expecting a happy ending? Bro, every character is f*cked in this show. Even the Byrd kids are screwed out of a normal life.

I was happy it came back on but also bittersweet 🥺
🥺🥺🥺
There are quite a few Easter eggs in the last 14 episodes, so I’m assuming it ended like this:
- Camila gets “hit” by the Chicago asset; bodyguard as well.
- Marty goes to Mexico (as ordered by Navarro in episode 14);
- Marty secures himself as the Cartel boss (he showed his intelligence and cold blood the last time he was there and secures it with the FBI;
- Marty and Wendy get divorced to protect the kids; daughter helps Wendy with the foundation and son with the money-laundering.
THE END 😂
there was another hint too. I feel Camila told the priest to order that hit, that wasn't a coincidence. that truck was sent to kill them but they never die lol. that's why in episode 14 i could hint they were being a target i listen closely and got the hint when he said this:
Priest: "Its not healthy to be around so much death".
Wendy: "You're overreaching... AGAIN"
Priest: How many times does God have to point at you before you take notice? I believe that accident was your LAST WARNING"
He literally telling them they want them death!! but the Byrdes are super smart
I haven't been this disappointed with a series finale since The Sopranos.
My boy joahna in the end was like " you came to the wrong house Foo "
Eh I kinda liked the anti-climatic bad prevailing over good story arch. Kind of mimic's real life happenings and honestly was done well. All ends were tidied up and very little room left for interpretation. Fit the show well and overall it was a great series.
Agree
This show honestly should have been a documentary. Shit like this actually happens lol. FBI/CIA sanctioned crimes and what not.
I hate Camilla. At least with Omar you kinda liked him because he was kind of charming.
Still don't understand why ruth just walked up to the cartel SUV without a gun, they could have at least made it a shootout at the end or something
happy with the ending. sad that ruth had to go but she brought it on herself.
Ruth knew better. She should've tried to get her hands on gun as fast as her feet could carry her.
She never even got to use her new pool with Nelson buried under it.
SPECTACULAR FINAL SEASON!! ❤️ Ozark writers delivered even in the last season. Stellar!!
Disappointing season 4 part 2 episodes and even worst ending.
100% agreed the way it ended angers me and makes me want season 5
Amazing way to end the show, in my opinion. No possible ending could've made everything feel right, and I think that's the point. It leaves you with a strange feeling that it wasn't a proper conclusion, but the show itself felt like a string of never ending consequences. Even after freeing themselves from their obligations to the cartel/FBI, the birds will most likely always have to deal with the psychological consequences now. Brilliant.
This was a great season dawg I can’t lie I like everything. Ruth had to go , you can’t fuck with the cartel
This ending rivaled The Sopranos in the fact that it was a let down. It almost seemed rushed and was very sloppy.
Damn the byrds moved to the Ozarks and 2 family names disappear, Snells & Langmores. The American dream
They could have just given Marty more anything, hate what they did to his character in the last two seasons. Being a bitch boy pawn for his wife.
Big fan of this series , but not the ending. For about 20seconds I thought Ruth might actually make it out alive

She did things without thinking and thought she could just live happily ever after
Kinda weird that Camila was in Queen of the South and in Ozark playing basically the same character with the same name 🤔
I caught that too. I think it's some type of Cartelverse lol
Silly final episode. I want a conclusive ending that confirmed Wendy was 6 feet under ground.
This was an accurate depiction of what happens irl. Scummy pieces of shit commit atrocities and get away with it because they are rich and powerful.
He definitely shoots the jar of ashes no more evidence just word against word against a cop who stole coke
Yeah or he shoots the guy but doesn't kill him to tell him they mean business
Ruth was never pronounced dead.. she sustain a critical wound and in coma still recovering
You didn’t explain anything…
From the initial encounter of
The Langmores taking the Byrdes money to the Byrdes eventually sacrificing the Langmore’s for their freedom…what a ride
Zeke was "legally" adopted by the Snell's shouldn't he be the sole heir to the estate?
I thought they were foster parents.
