Morrissey is so witty in his lyrics too, it's not all gloomy. He's really a funny bastard.
Yes, like in The Queen is Dead, when he sings "You should hear me play piano" 😀
@@DrStrangelove3891 i am the heir, of nothing in particular
To see them play live…I’d recommend watching the live set they did on a UK music TV show called ‘The Tube’ in 1984. They did about four songs….a great version on Barbarism Begins at Home…probably Andy Rourke’s finest moment with that amazing bass line and solo at the end. You even get to see Morrissey and Marr doing a little boogie together on stage.
Another with some dark comedic irony: Girlfriend in a Coma
For the ultimate "quit your job" tune, try "Frankly Mr. Shankly" (from The Queen is Dead)
Top 5 album of all for me
This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and I can't imagine anyone I'd rather watch react to it. Edit: No one can sing such ironic lyrics so angelically as Morrissey. He could sing about how your mother poisoned your father for having painted the living room a shade too pink, but then she died because he did it all in lead paint. Which he did on purpose, just to kill her slowly, because he hated the way she used to lick the walls when she was depressed. And that song would be gloriously beautiful.
You gotta listen to Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me, such an intense and dramatic song.
This song always makes me laugh
You're fast becoming my favourite at reacting to The Smiths as you get them. Try a solo Morrissey song, perhaps Everyday is Like Sunday.
Lullaby would have been a lovely creepy song.
Love "how soon is now" but i'm obsessed with "I know it's over"...
Cute kitty meow at the beginning
Their song “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” was the last single they released (only in America and Europe and Australia due to lyrically content) before they split up, the video is great fun and worth watching, they never got a chance to perform it live.
An excellent bass line can be found on the song Still Ill on the Hatful of Hollow compilation. Andy just kills it.
Live performance of Rusholm Rufian is astonishingly good - especially for an Andy fan. Can't remember if you've done it yet? You really should.
It's so cool you found the Smiths. I was 15 when they started and Morrissey just spoke to me. Always loved him. The Queen Is Dead is a great choice for a reaction too. Looking forwards to it.
Live in Derby is probably one of the best Smiths videos 👍
Gotta listen to well i wonder a very underrated song soooo beautiful.
The song was directly inspired by Heaven, Knows I'm Missing Him Now, by Sandie Shaw (1969)
The title was, not the song
Maybe "Cemetry Gates" would be Hallowe'en appropriate?
But this one, of course, is a true Smiths classic!
As for your "hatred" of guitarists, I have to laugh, as a bass player. YOU KNOW "where it's at" . But still, nobody can hate on Johnny Marr's guitars!!!! And, Smiths fans know that the music is often very "ironic": bright and cheery while the lyrics are... well, Morrissey-ian.
Listen to London by The Smiths. You'll get the funky bass, the punk drumming, and the crooning all in one song.
Please more The Smiths and Morrissey
Great reaction, thanks! For extra context, the title is a spoof on Sandie Shaw's "Heaven Knows I'm Missing Him Now" - Morrissey was a huge Sandie fan, and of course she did a great version Of "Hand In Glove" with the band, also worth checking out...
'Well I Wonder' if you will be reacting to another Smith's track anytime soon ?
“Life is very long when you're lonely.” (The Queen is Dead).
These things take time!!
Jesus wept. Marr had to teach Andy all of this.
I have no idea what the hell I'm talking about in this video. Beach movie? Hmmm.
Sorry about that. 😂
there's a slight Hawaiian / Calypso tone so I get it
I know exactly what you mean - but I would describe it as a lounge music feel, which again relates back to the 50s
Possibly my favourite reaction comment. Reminds me of a beach movie from the 50s,though I’ve never seen one. 😂
@@colliescameraaction8944 Understandable, with different lyrics it could easily be a jaunty song about going to a seaside town. In the summer. Not in the "Every Day is Like Sunday" sense, obvs.
For some reason my brain always segues into "On the Beach" by Chris Rea.
Love to see you try Meat Is Murder (the title track) sometime. It's beautifully haunting and mournful, a really powerful song, but once again told in Morrissey's enjoyably ecclectic style even so.
You most definitely need to hear Girl Afraid please do a reaction ♥️ you are awesome
Do "Well I Wonder" if you haven't already
Glad I found this channel for these Smiths reactions. Queen is Dead would be a great next choice. Ask, Panic, and Stop Me If You Think You Heard at his One Before, would be good choices as well.
May I suggest any live performance from the smiths at the assembly rooms Derby 83. I was a teenager when I saw this gig on tv and I have yet to see a live performance from any band that inspired me so much. Great review, thanx.
'Half A Person', from the Louder Thank Bombs LP, ranks as one of Rourke's best bass lines and Morrisey's best lyrics. Let me quote one part 'Call me morbid, call me shy..." Please react to 'Half A Person'. Love your videos!!!
The Queen is Dead isn't one of my favourite Smiths songs, but it would show you another side to the band, as it has a rather different sound compared the other songs you've heard.
Certainly worth checking out a live performance, cos they were a great live band.
Imagine identifying with this at 12.
Morrissey uses lots of (British) self-deprecating humour and wit in his lyrics. They are more complex than they may seem.
Try Johnny Marr, still the wizzard who builds the music
Wtf you username made me instantly subscribe. My life in a nutshell. This song is hella catchy
Can I suggest everyone stop suggesting Smiths songs and let the girl throw a dart in the Smiths song dartboard. Everyone's a winner.... Except those that aren't...oh oh..ohhh :)
I had to stop mid-video.
This is a light-hearted song in a way.
"Caligula would have blushed" etc.
It's also truly existential.
"Why do I give valuable time to people to don't care if I live or die".
Morrissey is a genius and Johnny, Andy and Mike brought a lot to the table.
Don't shy away from Moz's solo stuff.
Most of it is really great.
You're my type of human being.
Stay sane (or don't)...
Good to see someone "reacting" to an important and seminal band rather than playing to the masses in order to do the Mammon rag..Lots of greater Manchester stuff out there.
Interesting fact or not💀, the suicide rate increased in England due to the melancholic lyrics of The Smiths.
If you want some more Corey Taylor, he cameos in the Falling in Reverse song “Drugs” Since you don’t do reactions to videos I’m fine with you starting at part 3 of a trilogy, because the videos tell a story but the songs stand alone fine on their own.
...guitarists in general? I'm offended (!)
Live in Derby is probably one of the best Smiths videos 👍
