To see them play live…I’d recommend watching the live set they did on a UK music TV show called ‘The Tube’ in 1984. They did about four songs….a great version on Barbarism Begins at Home…probably Andy Rourke’s finest moment with that amazing bass line and solo at the end. You even get to see Morrissey and Marr doing a little boogie together on stage.

It's only the two of them because Morrissey did all the talking for the group.
What many people who deride the Smiths fail to realize is that Moz was quite funny, both in his lyrics and in interviews (of course now he's turned into your Fox watching uncle, which is sad).

Mmm, this interview feels like a piece of absurd art. And even the interview reminds me of a german band, tocotronic, who state the smiths as an important influence.

I guess it‘s only Morrissey & Marr here, because they wrote the songs. The Smiths ended, when Marr wanted a break from touring and recording, which slowly spiralled into the inevitable and rather ugly break-up and later on even a lawsuit. There are two retrospective views on the split: One camp thinks the world was deprived of loads of fantastic music; the other camp thinks that the four members got the best out of each other for as long as you could've hoped it could last - 80 or so brilliant songs in five prolific years of recording is quite a feat.
I love cats, coffee and all kinds of music, but I’m here for the Smiths and a trip down that particular memory lane and I hope I don’t offend you by saying that you strike me as a quite spooky incarnation of all the Smiths-fans I've ever had the pleasure of knowing or bumping into (I got on the bandwagon a year or two after they split, when I was in high school (or the Danish equivalent)).
The two songs in the interview that are new to you are "Reel Around the Fountain" (intro) and "Still Ill". Some personal faves of mine that you haven’t done yet: "Rubber Ring", "Cemetry Gates", "Girl Afraid", "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" … all with glorious bass, needless to say.

The song is called "Still ill," from The Smiths debut album "The Smiths." Reason why you are familiar with the songs they were playing is that this is in 1984 and they only had one or two albums at that point. Most interviews will be that of Morrissey. There's a few with Marr, but I think they left the interviews to Morrissey, as he was the clever one.

Marr and especially Morrissey did most of the interviews. I only found this interview from 1985 where Andy says exactly one line: ruclips.net/video/qhHditxX3u4/видео.html
Stereotypical introvert but brilliant bass player, I'm afraid.
They were signed to a small record company with limited marketing resources so clips of the early songs didn't have videos or the videos were recordings of TV shows they did to promote the single. Later there are some low budget clips ('Ask' and 'Panic'). By the time the signed a major label in 1987 they were essentially already split up and only Morrissey is featured in the clips ('Girlfriend in a coma' and 'Stop me if you think you heard this one before')

There were minimal ways for bands to get onto TV in Britain back in the 80s, but strangely some children's tea-time shows would get them on.

I don't agree. If you were really good you got air play from the likes of John Peel (BBC Radio), The Tube, The Old Grey Whistle Test, TOTP etc. Where do you go now?

I love almost every Smiths songs. I also bought Suedehead from Morrissey. The rest of his solo music did nothing for me. Now I am glad that I didn't support Morrissey's solo music because he has become a racist, anti-immigrant fascist.
