I saw a horrible comment on here where someone said everyone and their dog is singing at the Met Now. That is the most stuck up comment to say about the people who work hard to get to sing at the Met. I gather it hasn't been easy for them. Who ever made that comment obviously has nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all. If anything we should be more encouraging and supportive. That's why many people have this perception that opera is only for stuck up people. Opera is for everyone. And if people are encouragedthen it will allow spaces for people to come forward and share their skill and develop it. Not bring them down and making them feel less than.
Mrs Slack made her Met debut in 2006 with singing the title role in Luisa Miller. She is now doing a bunch of Serenas, Toscas, Wagner etc. Mrs Arwady debuted at the Met with singing Pasqualita in Doctor Atomic in 2008. She also sang a few Erdas in the ring cycle and Marquise in Le Fille du Regiment. Ms Wilson made her debut at the Met in 2014 as Aida and she recently reprised the role at the Met. Other singers do similar things as well.
Sorry, but that title will always belong to La Scala, followed closely (or tied) with La Fenice. The Met (used) to fall in line then around # 3 or 4. Of course each house has had major artistic decline - so you basically must remove present bais and use historical ranking
THE MET, ALAS, IS NOT THE CLASS IT ONCE WAS DURING THE GOLDEN ERA. SINGING is NO LONGER in EVIDENCE, LISTEN to KIRSTEN FLAGSTAD / ELIZABETH RETHBERG / LINA PAGLIUGHI / ELEANOR STEBER / BENIAMINO GIGLI / JUSSI BJORLING / SERGEI LEMESHEV / GEORGES THILL / HANS HOTTER / DOROTHY MAYNOR / HINA SPANI / APOLLO GRANFORTE / PACETTI / LISTEN TO THEM!
Their voices are exceedingly beautiful. However, singing pupils should be taught how to take better care of their physical shape. Diet, exercise and routine should be included in their formation as a whole artist.
Very wrong! For all the reasons in the world they should loose weight. It's about their health in the first place, not their physical appearance. Loosing weight does not affect the voice or affects it but positively (better breathing, lower blood pressure, stronger immune system to fight/prevent the infections etc). It's a stupid myth this with loosing weight=loosing voice. A totally wrong concept, not proven scientifically, and an excuse for the singer to overeat.
+Henry Carey please explain me scientifically how weight loss negatively affects the voice. And also how can these obese singers can be healthy. A!!! They didn't develop diabetes yet and their cholesterol level is not yet 400 and their blood pressure not yet 180. Yes. That's possible because they are very young. But they ARE NOT healthy!
To see this is really heartbreaking. Their capabilities so far below the standard of the previous generation opera singers. Even their attitude while having interview is none of proper. I even just knew Beverly Sills vibration by moving the jaw. It is so not correct.
So your telling these singers how to sing? What are your qualifications? Nothing worse than some RUclips troll saying a great singer was doing it all wrong.
But do you know when that Sills clip is from? It's the late 70s, about a year before she retired....she was almost 50. She was not a young singer in her 20s.

Yay Laquita. We love you. So proud of your accomplishments. Beauty in and out
The Met is quite the stage, its huge and its acoustics are fabulous, and I particularly love watching the ABT perform its great repetiore there
Only the best sing on that stage. I’ve stood on that stage and it’s quite an amazing spine chilling view.
I love seeing a young Tamara Wilson.
Wow this must be old. Beverly Sills passed away 15 years ago.
This is what a competition is supposed to be. Not American idol.
So much tension!!!!!
Two contraltos. I understand, everyone is very happy if able to hear a real contralto not a mezzo who sing the contralto roles.
Sills was never really excepted by met
Why do all their jaws shake and tongues waggle?? You never saw that in the singers of the older generation.
I suppose their teachers don’t know any better.
Sills' jaw was shaking as bad as this "newer generation". It started all back when she was still singing the decadence of the singing technic.
Beverly Sills' jaw was shaking too.
@@francoisbessing yes. She too pushed her voice behind where nature meant it to go.
Jaws have shook and tongues have waggle all the time.
meh have to do this for school, anyone else?
yes, we all have to
I liked the mezzo best
im doing this for schoolwork XD
LOL same
Bravi ragazzi!
I wonder where are they today ?

They’re all doing very well
greatest opera house in the world, right behind sydney.
The greatest in the world? Hah!
Delfin Jr. Acuna it is.
It is the greatest opera house in the world... I'm guessing they turned you down.
was one of the greatest

La Scala and La Fenice are the oldest but not the greatest. They’re quality in production have dropped,
Fascinating
Of you Want Sing opera you must learn Italian...in contrary case ....
All these voices sound artificial, and their vibrato is Bad, I prefere a more natural singing tecnique like the old school of singing.
Listen to Monserrat Caballe or Franco Corelli. Jussi Bjorling, Fritz Wunderlich.
Renata Tebaldi
The old technique died with the old singers. They were not always great.

Listen to Leonard Warren.
They’re all dead. Your living in the past.
Are wrong:the most important is la scala in Milan because opera is italian.keep in mind.
And French, German, Russian.
La Scala is not the most important. It has lost its luster in recent years.
It's not the greatest opera house in the world.
It is one of the greatest
Have you sung at a better one?
Papabbbbohn

When I lost 70 pounds so did my voice. Your ignorance is very evident
