- Canadian coloratura soprano Claire de Sévigné is busy preparing for a year abroad, singing in Salzburg and Zurich for the 2015/16 season. She still took the time to tell us a bit about how she does the vocal pyrotechnics she's known for.

OMG, she is sooooo young, and soooo good for her age!
She is good. Not for her age. For all. She is good.
I really like her voice.
This was so great to watch bravissima
Omg would be amazing if she could do your voicemail message!! Lol lol lol.
Wait. A. Minute! OMG, a nightingale! A just found a nightingale! 😍♥️🙏🏼
I'm just... Astonished
dannnggg girl!
This is the first time in my life, that I regret my younger self's musical choices. Should have listened to opera, not drum'n'bass, metalcore and rap. Oh well, I guess I had to grow to 27 years old to realise this.
Wise words from The Anal Xylophone
TheAnalXylophone Drum’n’bass is not bad. It’s just a music preference.I listen to rap and opera.I listen to the Sugarhill gang
There is no such thing as best choice in music. Its all so subjective and beauty lies in the ear of the hearer.Don't fall for the notion that just because stereotypically opera is the music of the upper classes,it must be the most superior BS!
FloatingMan YES
I jump from soprano 1 to soprano 2 in my choir. It takes so much work to sing so high! I marvel at her ability. She sounds stunning!
Takes much more work for me to sing the lower notes. The higher it goes, the more comfortable I am. I can sing sustained passages very high, but though I can reach low notes, I can't sing sustained passages in my lower register. Too much strain. No strain in head voice.
I'm a soprano 2 and jump from soprano 2 to alto 1 depending on the song (alto 1 on songs that only have a soprano 1 soprano part, because those C6's hurt unless we have the big soprano 2 range)
What an absolute class voice you have! Those high notes are absolutely astounding, out of this world! Love soprano's, especially coloratura soprano's like yourself.
@@freyawyttthegoddessandchip7764 What are you talking about ????
Freya Wytt yes i can do that, anyway arguing is useless
look's like you al'so love apo'strophe's
Yeah, I just loooooooooove her voice.
@@deyanncrete8030 what did she said?
Bet she is in the great stages now. She really caught the technique of “collocate” any sound of her string and develop the coloratura. Great
People say that the soprano range is:C4 to C6 😂😂
And here's a soprano comfortably hitting F#3s 😂😂😂🤣🤣
Maybe sopranino's range
@@aleksandarvelinovski8697 What do you mean by "SOPRANINO"?
Actually a soprano's range is: G3-C#6(passagio : E5)
@@newhope5729 Sopranino refers to a singing voice that is higher than soprano, it typically refers to a range of about E4 to E6, sometimes extending as high as G6. A sopranino voice type is rare. It is not considered a classical music part, but would be cast as a soprano.
@@aleksandarvelinovski8697 Well.....
But yeah, a soprano is exact replica of a baritone..... That too, an octave higher............
The funny thing is that most sopranos sing below an F#3
1:57 is that the doll song? I️ know the song but I️ can’t remember for the life of me what it is hahaha
Yes, that's the Doll song, by Offenbach.
La chanson de lolympia
@@silverkitty2503 No, it's not called "La chanson d'Olympia". It's called "Les oiseaux dans la charmille". In opera, arias are called after the first line of said aria. Der hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen, Casta Diva, Il dolce suono, O mio babbino caro, Un bel dì vedremo, etc. that's how all those arias start.
Yup
PlugInKali and in French La Chanson D’Olympia means Olympia’s song which is still correct. It is also referred to as the doll song. Someone, YOU, needs to take a chill pill and calm down.
Sopranos are the reason why I started listening to opera. One of my voice teachers was a soprano, who became the muse for several poems. I crushed on her for years and still do think of her sometimes. Female opera singers are always special to me.
its horrible to listen to IMO.gives me a fuckin headache
FloatingMan 😂🤣😩🤪😢🤧
@@o2xb it gives me a headache to sing 🤣
do coloraturas absolutely have to go to F? I have a very high tessitura and fast flexibility but I can only perform to E.....
I met a working coloratura (she does paid performances to this day) and she would only sing up to an E6. She couldn't sing things like Queen of the Night, but she could do plenty of other roles. I would say it depends on your region and what places/people you work with. You technically don't HAVE to do anything, but if someone else can sing what you can and better, you won't be first choice. If you have a high tessitura and a lot of flexibility in your vocal folds, you could very well take on a coloratura role. If you're under the age of 25, don't judge yourself too much. Just work at your technique and you might be able to get a few extra half steps. You look quite young, so just wait until your voice is fully developed. I know a talent scout for broadway/classical and she doesn't take musical theater students over the age of 20, but she also won't take classical students under the age of 25 lol
Dramatic soprano checking in... Damnnnnnn, girl.
Claire, you slay me -- your vocal flair (and personality) is absolutely delightful... all your years of diligence are paying off, from that initial klutzy wobbles to the now amazing trills and runs, give yourself a pat on the back.
I was here to gets some tips how Dimash manages his breath support to sing like a coloratura soprano in his higher range. I heard he sang with the soprano section during High School. I can't get over the Bb 5 barrier. It just seems to clip off.
You need whistle voice. Look up tutorials on YT to find it
I just love female Soprano voices!!!!
this bitch ain't no soprano much less coloratura, bruh
@@666Nightbringer666 what is she then?
@@2016tumblrs She is soprano for sure.
Marc Steel BM What are you hearing? Of course she's a Soprano.
Marc Steel BM
the only bitch I see has the username “Marc Steel BM” And much like the last two letters of your screen name you are shit. Not to be confused with “the shit”, just shit.
Oh, and yes, she is a Coloratura. What planet do you live on Neanderthal?
Wonderful! I would love to attend one of her performances, the world needs more Opera!
Charisma!!!! She has it in spades along with her talent and professionalism. Beautiful voice as well. Impressive
1:15 - a very important point
Omg such a beautiful and powerful voice!!!!!!!
lmao powerful my ass.... As a matter of fact my ass produces more powerful sounds than that.... And her voice is ugly and common..
@@666Nightbringer666 you definitely dont know anything about singing technique and it shows... Im sorry for your ignorance
If I see one more video using ¨Der Holle Rache¨ as an example in opera, I'm going to puke.
as many GREAT high notes this amazing young lady sang in this lovely video... she saved the VERY best for the end when she bid us "good bye to SCHMOPre"...
I really like her voice, looks and class. You're definitely a high class note!
You should play Christine Daae.
TheMsiaddict and Madame de la Grande Bouche the Wardrobe!
*yawn* If you're already doing the queen of the night, I don't know what else there is left? Bell song maybe? Probably done that too....
This girl can sing as high as the sky, literally! I bet she can also sing as low as the ground when she wants to!
Luke Warren I’m just like her! I love seeing that I’m not the only one haha
An average coloratura soprano s range is from f3 to an f6
I mean not literally
Lmao NO. she sings in an average range and forcing a few higher notes like all other delusional mezzos trying to sing outside their range in order to fool you, gullible fanatics. and she fvcking sucks bruh, is overrated af so I have no idea why the fvck y'all are praising her so much . even in opera there's singers that are way better than this opera wannabee
Yes, but too low, or, she'll lose her top notes. Very high notes like hers are very delicate, and you have to treat them with care. LOTS of care.
What are your dream roles in opera and/or musical theater? You have such a great voice!
What's the difference between normal vibrato and trill?
Ada yang kesini gara gara adelways?
thanks, Claire for sharing some very effective techniques which I have tried and really WORK!!You are the best and I love your tone.Nice clean quality......xxx
Brava! Love your voice and enthusiasm. I was so excited in school because my instructor said I'm a dramatic coloratura. Ranged B5-F1.
First of all it's brava and not bravo, you stupid. If you want to use Italian words, use them correctky. Did you see how this idiotic beach pronounced staccato, legato? Are you fucking kidding me?
+Denya Gantenbein
Why are you so rude?
Denya Gantenbein Rude. Oh and, why don't you apply your own advice to your english ? ;) just a thought...
F1? and you're a girl?
F1 is a contra note that is a basso profundo note
Oh so good, what a lovely voice to listen to on a Sunday morning:-)))
Un believable. You are so lucky to have such a beautiful voice! (although it's probably also a lot of work!)
Wonderful voice, and such talent for someone so young.
OMG how unreal I am gobsmacked ! She is camp I love her !
Claire, you are a goddess! Your tip about breathing in from the top of your face makes so much sense! :)
She’s ridiculously talented. And apparently so down to earth
So this what Ironmouse wants to be... too bad, life circumstances broked her dream
Your Königen is E'RYTHANG!
Can your voice break or shake glass? Did you break any in this video?
Quiero ser ella. Pero no puedo
Does anybody know the title of the aria at 1:20? Thank you!
I think it's part of the presentation of the rose scene
OMG this might be it bro. When I'm singing super high my voice feels relaxed and not strained at all. So this might be for me.
Stray dogs must follow her everywhere.
What is your advice to somebody who wants to sing opera, can sing high notes but is still a beginner?
"lagadou, stacadou"... Jeez, why don't you learn to pronounce one Italian word or two?
I've never heard of her, but she's VERY good!
shes ok ..i don't like her staccato at all though
A lot of people need to understand that high notes for some people are like ten thousand times easier than low "normal" notes.
Surreal, é de assustar de tão incrivel
I wish I could sing that high and have that much control and breath support which is more important
BRAVISSIMA!!!(muchas gracias!!!)
Anybody who knows the aria of 1:20?
Its the Presentation of the Rose duet from Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss. Technically not an aria, but its sometimes excerpted to be a solo because the role doesnt have a traditional aria.
Good luck with your career you have a very promising future!!
I'm a lyric soprano, so it's almost middle voice most of the time for me, hehehe...
I dont know what I am but I'm a soprano I can sing ariana grande notes
@@taehyungslove1236 i'm boy and soprano and don't know what kind of sopranos i am like you but i would like to ask you to have more knowledge about soprano voices so.. do you sing more easily in the middle or high notes and another question do you have a strong chest voice

It just so fascinating to hear a coloratura talk then sing haha
She's magnificent!
a gridare sono bravi tutti ...sono le agilitá e le quartine infinite a fare la differenza
Grazie per le indicazioni, date da una cantante in piena carriera come te🙏🎼👏👏👏👏
She's amazing! 💕
But I couldn't help but think about Miranda Sings at 1:07 - 1:13 😂
I don’t know anything about opera but anytime in choir that we “sang opera” type performances I was given spinto soprano. Like in plays I was mostly given spinto or lyric or dramatic whatever any of those mean.
Dramatic is heavier than lyric. Spinto is a lyric that can be pushed to dramatic for short passages.
NOW I KNOW HOW OPERA SINGERS SING TRILLSSSS!!!!!
Oh, Clair, that's so beautiful! Just your exercises...
well she is not just coloratura soprano she is soprano ligero so she can sing so high but not because the coloratura just like Mar R says coloratura soesnt mean high!
Gabriela Perales Soprano, coloratura soprano DOES mean high. If you studied in musical school, you know the range of coloratura voice and its characteristics.
Gabriela Perales Soprano, also, just to let you know: coloratura and soprano ligera are the same things.
Here is an example of coloratura that to my ears does not involve high notes: ruclips.net/video/m2zX8yE067Y/видео.html
She is a Coloratura soprano. She's got a lot of movement in her voice.
"Leggiero" is Italian for "light."
What is the name of the song in 1:52
« La chanson d’Olympia «
Dans Les contes d’Hoffmann !
3 losers disliked this vid =/
Excuse my french, but holy shit.
Amazing control. Brilliant.
You're so amazing! =)
Intenta la triple coloratura como ymac sumac
1:54 whats the name of this piece
Hey thank you for the video! Claire is absolutely adorable and talented. Does anyone know where to find the video in which she performs the doll's aria?
What are you singing at 1:52?
Good ligth soprano
Here you can learn how to make your voice small and constricted. Listen to her speaking voice, strong and quite low. Not to compare with her singing voice, specially the high ones. Its a kind of squezzing instead of opening. Im pretty sure she would be a liric soprano or even heavier if her voice would be properly developped
Agree, her voice lost core in the high notes, is thin and small. I think that she is lyric coloratura soprano. I'm dramatic soprano.
I think I'm a coloratura soprano but I'm not too sure... My range is F3 - G6 on good days
+L.e. Kevin I know that... But in my comment I was speaking in terms of classical and/or choral vocals.
+JoAnnxYZ Most women hit the sixth octave, but by singing in whistle tone. If you hit it in your head/mixed voice, you certainly are a soprano - maybe not a colatura
+L.e. Kevin that's why I said that sopranos hit the sixth octave by singing in their mixed/full voice. Other women like mezzos and contraltos do hit the sixth octave but by using falsetto or whistle. I can't see what you didn't understand in my previous comment.
+L.e. Kevin Ewa Poodles is a Dramatic Contralto. Not in mixed, but in head voice.
+L.e. Kevin *Podles. And she can go up to D6, not C#6.
Amazing!! So beautiful!!! She truly projects, she doesn't shout. Very beautiful.
Her voice is .... Wow!
I cant believe how casually she turns on high notes and power. I also can't believe the armchair critics having a got at her about what coloratura is.... i think someone with a voice that trained knows what she is about. She was just speaking casually to presumed non experts.
And Dimash?
Miranda sings can do dat
LOVED the Glitter and Be Gay reference at the end, SO COOL!
She sounds great!
I like very much Colaratura Sopranos. Colaraturas very nice voices. Good voice.
she's charming

I am studying musicals and saw the reference to coloratura in Richard Kendrick's book on musicals. Is coloratura like improvisation in instrumentation?
That was delightful! Thank you for the explanation and demonstrations.
