Going to be watching the next few videos with interest. The Extremadura region of Spain is the only part we have never visited and somewhere we need to go. Your pronunciation of the town was almost spot on, just pronounce "ciudad" as "thiudad" 👍... Straight roads as far as Alison is concerned are Roman and she is usually right, oh sorry I've just been corrected "ALWAYS right". Don't you just love places with stone and wood buildings, winding alleys and just randomly shaped houses. Much love Darren and Alison 🤟♥️
Hi guys, oh you two would be all over La Alberca, I thought of you both when walking around and feel like it's a must for you! Especially as you'll be able to park Persie. We see a couple of spots in Extremadura for next week's video which were both very special, before we had to cut it short and head east, otherwise we'll run out of time. But we can safely say it's worth the detour down into this region! Damn I knew we weren't saying it right. We try to find videos on RUclips of people pronouncing places, but it's not always easy, especially when it's somewhere more obscure 🙈 I think Alison is definitely right about the Roman roads, though I suspect it's also that the bigger the country, the more likely it is to find space for a road to go in a continuous line, e.g the USA. But roman makes sense here, as there is a huge Roman history especially in Merida just south of here. Anyway, thanks guys, take care and much love ❤️🤟
Aah thank you, but which one, Ciudad or La Alberca? 😁 We agree though, both very different but utterly gorgeous. I (Dan) preferred La Alberca - a timber framed building will always grab my heart 😍
Thank you for the tip! Sadly we had to skip Trujillo as we started to run short of time but we really wanted to go. There's a lot more in this region than it initially seems!
This was a brilliant, varied video - you gave us everything: delicious-looking food, really interesting towns and a lovely walk through some gorgeous countryside with great views. You are so right. We don’t get those wonderful, far-reaching views of uninhabited countryside here and the only straight roads we have are the ones the Romans left. The UK is the most nature-depleted (and totally over-populated) country in the Europe ☹️. The pig tradition is interesting but I don’t give much for his chances after the auction ☹️. I’m with you Stephen, I would have him as a pet - such wonderful intelligent animals. Thanks for today’s journey - looking forward to the next one already. Well done Stephen on your personal best. ❤️❤️
Good evening Irene 🥰 Thank you so much - we enjoyed these places a lot, and I really liked putting these clips together to showcase it all (a shame then, that so far it's one of our worst performing videos in months 😂 Sometimes I don't think we will ever "get" how RUclips works, but we keep on trying!). Being in France, Spain and even Germany, really made us realise just how depleted and crowded the UK is. We're such a small space by comparison, so we have been appreciating these long, quiet roads and miles in between towns so much. Yes I think sadly the pig's fate is likely the obvious one. They are indeed intelligent, beautiful creatures - even smarter than dogs, I think. It's why we stopped eating pork - we just couldn't do it anymore since they seem to have some of the worst conditions on farms for such bright animals. I appreciate that might seem hypocritical given we are not vegetarian (and still have eaten pork on a rare occasion, like with the free tapas, because it would seem rude to refuse it, especially when you can't explain your reasoning in Spanish), but we never actively buy it anymore. We eat other meat so we have no right to preach, but pork was one we have comfortably dropped - it seemed the "worst", if that makes sense. I (Dan) have managed periods of eating only fish and veg etc for a few weeks, and we do limit our meat days at least. Anyway, I'm droning on, but thank you as always Irene, I hope you're well and having the occasional bout of tolerable weather back there ❤️
@ Dan, you never drone on - I love your chatter. My OH and I are vegetarian - I will eat fish, but she won’t because of bad fish-farming habits - so most of the time I don’t get any either 😖! We had an unusual day here: 14 degrees and sunshine 🤣. Stay well both of you and safe travels. ❤️❤️
Aah thank you Irene. I do like a chatter although it probably needs some err, direction and editing at times 😂 Yes fish farms are another one, and I don't find it particularly obvious whether you're buying farmed fish or wild caught sometimes - but then with wild caught, it's even harder, because you don't know if they're ethical or dreadful trawlers. I really can see why people give everything up when bad practices seem to be across the board 😟 So pleased you've had some sunshine, and 14 degrees is nearly deckchair and beer in the garden level, surely 😂🤪 Take care both ❤️
First of all. Well done steve on your run under 30. The towns in this video are very York like. Like you said. I also have a Chinese feel to some of the buildings. Either way another lovely watch. Looking forward to seeing your next video
Hey Paul, Steve says thank you very much 🤗 He's done so well to get that far for someone who never ran in his life. We loved both places in this video, the buildings were to die for and there were so many different elements to them, especially in La Alberca. Hope you are well, have a good week 🥰❤️
Thank you girls! Aaah no I hope you're managing okay up there, I bet it looks pretty spectacular if nothing else! Stay safe, sending good wishes to you both and hope you're settling in okay ❤️
Thank you so much! And Steve says thanks too 🤗 We've both slacked a bit with exercise recently but we'll get back on the train soon enough I'm sure. Spain is just full of temptations I'm afraid 🙈
Completely by chance I watched a documentary about the pig! It's a series called Omnivore, on Apple TV, the episode called 'Pig'. I've enjoyed the documentaries and style, well worth watching if you can get AppleTV for free or have a subscription. I added the town to our list of places to visit when we finally get travelling so it was a real surprise to see you in the same place (or at least a town with the same tradition)
Hi Jamie, oh that is strange! How cool that there's a documentary on it though, I wonder if it was the same place, and more importantly, was the usual fate of the pig actually revealed 🙈 We don't have Apple TV but I'd be curious to see it. La Alberca is absolutely gorgeous though, I can highly recommend it and there being a free aire is the icing on the cake 😍
Aww thank you Christine, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and the music 🥰 This part of Spain is very underrated, so we're pleased we've been able to visit and see some of the lesser known places ❤️
The town looks absolutely lovely Dan and Steve, I love the Pig roaming around however I don't think I'd like what may eventually happen, sadly some Spanish traditions are cruel, but for now at least he/she gets a some freedom
Hi Michael 🤗 The town was the picture-perfect fairytale location, and felt very unique to us. So glad we found it on a whim! Yes, the fate of the pig is likely inevitable, however it will at least live a life better than any pig bred for slaughter on farms, so there is that at least. Anyway, hope you're well and thank you as always 😍 🙏
Yes, when you came across that little church and well, I thought it looked like something out of D&D. I'm a rock gnome bard. :) Jon in rural BC, Canada
I tried a bit of D&D once, but I think I joined the wrong group, as no one helped me understand the rules so I never went back 😂 I'll stick with my role-playing videogames every so often, which so many of these locations remind me of too. Which makes sense I guess, since most fantasy is inspired by history. A rock gnome bard sounds like a somewhat different and fun role from a quick google 😁 Hope you are well, have a great week 😊
@@comealongdear I tried before and it wasn't my cup of tea, because, as a writer, I'd rather create my own characters and situations. But my daughter is the DM and roped me in. So we play whenever the four of us able to be online at the same time. Me (gnome bard), my son (Lunar cleric), my Swedish son-in-law (warrior elf) and my daughter (DM). She writes the games, trying to plan for all contingencies, but we often go in a different direction. Healing potions are life savers. Literally. My most used spell is casting fireballs. :) And playing my magical Elvin lute has even charmed a god. It was hard to escape her. Cheers. Jon in rural BC, Canada
Oh it sounds like a lot of fun, especially when someone really knows what they're doing. I like that it gives you a template to choose but you can adjust it to make it more of a unique character to you. I would absolutely give it a go again under the right circumstances. And who needs an armor-clad warrior when you have a musical gnome to bewitch the beasts with 😍😁
@@comealongdear Oh, trust me, I have a sword and bow as well. A lot of times they are needed more than music. But there's only so much a 4 foot, 6 inch gnome can do. I'm glad for the human and, especially, the elf to do the heavy lifting in a battle. Even after a couple of years of playing, I still have to ask the experienced players what I should do. It doesn't come naturally to me. Although I did give the cave full of ravenous spiders my rations, avoiding the planned battle, and thwarting the DMs plans by making spider friends. It's fun, most of the time, and a good way to connect with the kids. And for them to check on an old man. Jon in rural BC, Canada
It sounds brilliant Jon, and I'm glad you get to do that to connect with your kids across the ocean, whilst having fun at the same time. I'm sure it does get confusing at times, and I would be the same as you, having to ask a lot of questions as I go. It sounds like there are rules, but that you have to kind of "wing it" as we say here. Incidentally, I'd have given those spiders the rations too, spiders are better as friends surely (but kept at a safe distance 😉). Take care
That looks like proper spaghetti western landscapes. AND you found a parasol mushroom! People say it's one of the tastiest mushrooms, but I don't like it, I go for chanterelles and porcini. People who eat parasol mushrooms fry the entire "hat" and eat it as is, fried in butter seasoned with salt and pepper. The landscape looks very dry but maybe the images are deceiving. New places for me and very interesting! Today most Swedes put up advent stars and advent candleabras because it is advent 1st. I just put decorations up because they look pretty and also to signal to potential burglars that hey, people live here. 😂😂😂 Have you found any Christmasy decorations in Spain? Safe travels and many thanks for another lovely video! Cheers from Skåne!
Greetings to you in Skåne! 🥰 Haha well we have seen some Christmas stuff, but mostly we have totally avoided everything to do with it being out here, which is quite blissful really, and I say that as someone who likes Christmas! Now it's December I don't mind, but it's rammed down our throats from the start of November in the UK 😬 Good idea about putting the decs up to put off intruders! The landscape was certainly dry as per Spain's usual climate, but I think this one felt less harsh than some of the rest we've seen - those deciduous trees grew there in abundance, and I assume they need more water than the ones you see in the really dry areas. Or maybe not. But being slightly hilly, it looked like a place that still got some rain here and there. Aah that mushroom was fabulous! We knew it was a parasol but just didn't feel brave enough to take it. We've never tried them either, but that does sound tasty in the butter as one whole piece. We loved visiting both places in this video, it feels like we've got to see a side of Spain a bit less touristy in this area. Anyway, thank you, and best wishes to you in Sweden 🇸🇪 Hopefully you've had a sunny day or 2 to savour as the long winter sets in!
Oh the strange breakfast? I definitely recommend and should think it's great for diabetics...well, I'm guessing. The other day I had similar but raspberries in with sardines...it shouldn't work but it weirdly did 😁
Hi Mattias, thank you 🥰 We have loved this part of Spain, its every bit as interesting to explore as any of the coastal regions we think. Hope you got back down south safely ❤️
Cheers Gareth! Yeah I think anywhere here beats being back in the UK's never-ending wet, cold and gloom to be honest 😂 Not looking forward to that in January!
Hey Ashley 🥰 We were so tempted because we knew it was an edible parasol mushroom, but we kind of chickened out just in case we were wrong 🙈 I was also being bitten by something really vicious every time I got near it, so we just decided to leave it be. I bet it would've been delicious though 😋
Hi guys, you are living the dream - visiting so many lovely places that most people have never heard of. Do you never run together? We do 5ks but I need the motivation of the hubby to get me off my fat arse! x
Hey guys 🥰 Hope you're enjoying that Mediterranean weather out there, assuming it's still holding up for you! We do feel very lucky to be exploring places off the beaten track, it feels good to go somewhere just a little bit different to the norm in Spain 😍 We don't run together in the van mostly because someone has to hold the keys and that's too annoying, and we do tend to go different paces, but I agree, for motivational purposes, it would feel better to be doing it at the same time for sure, as we all need that to kick start us when it comes to exercise. Thanks guys, take care 🥰
Aah so it isn't just the Spanish saying it quick, it really is "laal" as one word, I thought it sounded like that! Thank you 😁 Albarracin looks splendid and we've seen it on other videos, but I'm not sure how much time we'll get to go there. There's so much to pack in, we feel like kids given a jam-packed toybox of goodies and told you've only got 2 minutes to play with it. Never mind, we are thoroughly enjoying what we've seen so far and grateful for that 🙏❤️
MB G Wagons. a very capable 4wd passenger vehicle .Mercedes would be hosting motoring journalists in that town so they could test drive on the local roads. Why do you shave the tops of your heads and not your faces? Or perhaps I just need to get pissed occasionally like you blokes and I wouldnt be so nosy? 🧐 You ended up so drunk you dont know where you were going, that must be interesting in a foreign country in a campervan. Poor old Daisy wont know which way to turn. 😄 🍻
Good Afternoon 😊 Yes that all makes sense about Mercedes, and was confirmed when we looked it up afterwards. We have zero interest in such events, or cars in general, but I did find their presence such a contrast to the historic yellow buildings all around them. We quite like the beards so that's why they stay 😁 The hair stays short because it's easier in a van, mostly. I love Steve's beard, although (spoiler alert) he had a slight accident with it yesterday so had to remove the lot 🙈 Haha I shouldn't think getting drunk would make someone LESS nosy, that's surely not how it works 🤪 Sober, drunk or otherwise of course, we never really know where we're going until the day before usually or sometimes on the day itself. Much more fun that way, I'd find an itinerary to be too full of pressure to keep to a schedule. By the way, I forgot to say, I saw that video you sent - dear god 🙈 How on earth did she get in and out of that. Does anyone ever see her when the shop's open? The cigarette dangling from the mouth whilst rummaging just completed the look. I guess she feels she has to do it, but it must make life more difficult for you guys in the shop. It would surely just be better to have people bring items straight in rather than leaving then in those boxes, at least that is my experience from the UK.
@@comealongdear Yes it seems the donation bins have been removed, I havent heard it officially yet, heading off for my death defying trip in 5 minutes so I will get the news. I hope the shop front isnt now a dumping ground! That woman in blue has never been seen in the shop! I do wish I could be traipsing around Spain right now in a van like you two. I have a small world but it is complicated so that makes it more interesting. I would go bananas without content creators and their antics. Will I make it back 🤞. 🍻
That sounds wise then, but yes there is always a risk of bags being left outside - followed by said bags being raided, sometimes thrown around for ultimate chaos, and either way leaving very little of use to anybody. If it's like the UK, it really depends on the town you live in as to how often that happens, and again if its like the UK, the sensible folk will drop stuff in when the shop is open bypassing that risk. I do miss all that nonsense sometimes, but hearing you talk about it reminds me exactly what I don't miss 😂 Well, we we know we're lucky to be doing this van travel thing, even if we did everything to orchestrate it happening, but I'm pleased if we can provide some entertainment and take you to places you otherwise can't see. Other subscribers have said similar about us and that really does make us happy, even though we're a small channel, that makes it feel like something good has come out of it. I'm sure you'll make it through the drive from hell again 🙈 But a cautious good luck regardless!
@@comealongdear Made it back, I just dont understand how someone can lack mechanical sympathy to that extent. Always the wrong gear, over cautious at the wrong times and careless at others. 🤯 Yes public liability was the decider with the bins, they finally checked and discovered if someone injured themself whilst in the bin the shop would be sued and after seeing the videos realised it was possible. This town has 15% unemployment, highest crime in the state, lots of drug abuse and chop-chop shops making a fortune. Old girls at the shop setting the windows for christmas, they win best in town quite often. Anyway I am eating too much lindt chocolate right now in an attempt to settle my nerves, bloody stuff is so morish at times. Keep the fascinating and amusing content coming fellas, its much appreciated by all. How many k's does Steve run now? he is bound to start losing some weight soon, most distance runners are thin? He will save money on trainers too. hasta la vista
A safe return after that is deserving of some Lindt chocolate I'd say! (Also a favourite of mine - nothing quite like that melt in the mouth style they create). It sounds like he really shouldn't be driving, but I wonder if it's a case of not always having or finding anyone else who can do the job so they have to use what they've got. Good news about the bins - your regular bin-raider could easily have slipped in there on a sharp donation (I'm sure people give knives etc, as they do back home 😬🙈). Ridiculous that the shop would be liable for something that someone has deliberately chosen to do to themselves however 🙄 Christmas windows, always a favourite of mine! And then would be annoyed when someone wanted something out of it, ruining it in seconds 😂 Steve's lost a few stone, but he's not updated much of his wardrobe so he's wandering around in oversized trackies and t-shirts which ironically make him look bigger! I can't remember his ultimate goal, but he wants to lose a few more, and aims to do more 10-15k runs I think. Take care down there ❤️

But roman makes sense here, as there is a huge Roman history especially in Merida just south of here.
Anyway, thanks guys, take care and much love ❤️🤟
That town is amazing, it does look like a magical medieval era town. Beautiful.❤
Aah thank you, but which one, Ciudad or La Alberca? 😁 We agree though, both very different but utterly gorgeous. I (Dan) preferred La Alberca - a timber framed building will always grab my heart 😍
I agree with you Dan, the timber adds so much character and charm.❤️
Definitely!
If you are still in the region, Trujillo is nice too.
Thank you for the tip! Sadly we had to skip Trujillo as we started to run short of time but we really wanted to go. There's a lot more in this region than it initially seems!
Lovely video
Thank you, Sally 🙏😍
Gre video Guys steve you are looking good xx
Thank you Pat, and Steve says thank you too 🥰
This was a brilliant, varied video - you gave us everything: delicious-looking food, really interesting towns and a lovely walk through some gorgeous countryside with great views.
I do like a chatter although it probably needs some err, direction and editing at times 😂
Yes fish farms are another one, and I don't find it particularly obvious whether you're buying farmed fish or wild caught sometimes - but then with wild caught, it's even harder, because you don't know if they're ethical or dreadful trawlers. I really can see why people give everything up when bad practices seem to be across the board 😟
So pleased you've had some sunshine, and 14 degrees is nearly deckchair and beer in the garden level, surely 😂🤪 Take care both ❤️
First of all.
Some lovely places. Hats off to Steve for a PB. Funny to see you’re both in shorts whilst we’ve been knee deep in in snow 😂
Thank you girls! Aaah no I hope you're managing okay up there, I bet it looks pretty spectacular if nothing else! Stay safe, sending good wishes to you both and hope you're settling in okay ❤️
Steve is looking very slim.. his hard work is showing 😊 well done ✅ Great video guys 👏
A great video and I loved the music you used to a accompany it.. You really do visit some beautiful places. Safe travels 😊
Jon in rural BC, Canada
I tried a bit of D&D once, but I think I joined the wrong group, as no one helped me understand the rules so I never went back 😂 I'll stick with my role-playing videogames every so often, which so many of these locations remind me of too. Which makes sense I guess, since most fantasy is inspired by history.
A rock gnome bard sounds like a somewhat different and fun role from a quick google 😁
Hope you are well, have a great week 😊
@@comealongdear
I tried before and it wasn't my cup of tea, because, as a writer, I'd rather create my own characters and situations.
Now it's December I don't mind, but it's rammed down our throats from the start of November in the UK 😬
Good idea about putting the decs up to put off intruders!
Wow looks lovely x
Thank you Denise ❤️
12:36 I love mashed potatoes soooooooo much.
Aah they are just the best, aren't they! 😍
@@comealongdear Yep, delicious.
No that looks good, must try it as I am Diabetic X
Oh the strange breakfast? I definitely recommend and should think it's great for diabetics...well, I'm guessing. The other day I had similar but raspberries in with sardines...it shouldn't work but it weirdly did 😁
The mercedes were updated recently so its just a product launch.
Aah yeah that makes sense, thank you 😊
Good to see you having a nice time in beautiful España. 😀❤
Hi Mattias, thank you 🥰 We have loved this part of Spain, its every bit as interesting to explore as any of the coastal regions we think. Hope you got back down south safely ❤️
I am back home in Andalucía, and thats really nice. I hope that you will have lovely days in front of you 😃@@comealongdear
Ah good to hear it. Thank you 🤗
19:55 Oooooh I love a big mushroom
🍄😁
@@comealongdear lolololol
Yeah that town was a propa mish mash of different styles. But hey, beats being stuck in old blighty I guess. Great vid and all the best lads.
Cheers Gareth! Yeah I think anywhere here beats being back in the UK's never-ending wet, cold and gloom to be honest 😂 Not looking forward to that in January!
Morning! ❤️
Hey guys why didn't you pick the mushroom and cook it up?
We do feel very lucky to be exploring places off the beaten track, it feels good to go somewhere just a little bit different to the norm in Spain 😍
We don't run together in the van mostly because someone has to hold the keys and that's too annoying, and we do tend to go different paces, but I agree, for motivational purposes, it would feel better to be doing it at the same time for sure, as we all need that to kick start us when it comes to exercise. Thanks guys, take care 🥰
Those Mercedes are pretty much the most expensive ones that you can get.
😂 That certainly explains a lot then. They looked so bizarre to us plonked in that ancient square
La Alberquilla, pronounced laal-ber-kee-ya is nice but not as nice as Albaracin. Great video!
Aah so it isn't just the Spanish saying it quick, it really is "laal" as one word, I thought it sounded like that! Thank you 😁
Albarracin looks splendid and we've seen it on other videos, but I'm not sure how much time we'll get to go there.
I love Steve's beard, although (spoiler alert) he had a slight accident with it yesterday so had to remove the lot 🙈
Haha I shouldn't think getting drunk would make someone LESS nosy, that's surely not how it works 🤪 Sober, drunk or otherwise of course, we never really know where we're going until the day before usually or sometimes on the day itself.
I do miss all that nonsense sometimes, but hearing you talk about it reminds me exactly what I don't miss 😂
Well, we we know we're lucky to be doing this van travel thing, even if we did everything to orchestrate it happening, but I'm pleased if we can provide some entertainment and take you to places you otherwise can't see.
Ridiculous that the shop would be liable for something that someone has deliberately chosen to do to themselves however 🙄
Christmas windows, always a favourite of mine! And then would be annoyed when someone wanted something out of it, ruining it in seconds 😂
Steve's lost a few stone, but he's not updated much of his wardrobe so he's wandering around in oversized trackies and t-shirts which ironically make him look bigger! I can't remember his ultimate goal, but he wants to lose a few more, and aims to do more 10-15k runs I think.
Take care down there ❤️
Really enjoy your vids, Dan n Stephen. Saw a tip on another video re parking for longer in UK supermarkets. Might not be news to ye but here's the video link. Best wishes for all yer adventures. Shay

Hello, thank you so much, we're pleased you're liking the vlogs 😍 Oh no we didn't know about that tip at all - thank you! I will look into it some more, that could really work for us! ❤️
