To Save, or Not to Save: The Rise of CS:GO's Most Anti-Climactic AWPer

- Every esport has that one, flashy role whose residents are rockstars. Mechanical maestros whose sole responsibility is to ship out savoury beatdowns.
And, lord knows, in Counter-Strike, it’s the AWPers.
From the flicks to the filthy nonos, there’s no denying that those who’ve been entrusted with the Mighty Green are the showstoppers of CS. Living, breathing highlight reels who’ll stop at nothing to churn out the most ludicrous clips imaginable.
Well, I mean all of them . . . save one.
Today, we’re here to pay our begrudging respects to - Dzhami ‘Jame’ Ali, the enigmatic AWPer who’s managed to cement himself as world-class not by taking fights but by avoiding them time and time again.
Despite being a more than capable fragger, Jame’s go-to instinct is never to lunge into battle. It’s to play with such passivity that, at the first sign of failure, he opts to retreat instead of retake. To save instead of slam. To instigate what the community calls . . . ‘Jametime’.

@@YunTaeGoO nope. Jame is an insane player and anytime he has AWP there’s a decent chance of winning the round. It makes sense not losing it in a 1v4 he won’t win.
I mean sure that’s possible, but you can’t claim that… it’s just as likely that if he didn’t save and sent it, he gets the kills wins the round, destroys the enemies economy, and they win matches they could have if he just went for it… or if he didn’t save as hard and got some exit picks, they win some matches because the enemies Econ gets messed up having to re buy
All are possible, but no one can say it for certain because only one option was taken, and no one can see alternate universes to see what the other outcomes would have been.

Jame is so underrated. People don't realize that he manages to play decently while he's also shotcalling and in PGL Stockholm he even clutched and carried so many rounds.
I have not played or watched cs go but from the clips and the stuff you talked about in my opinion personally it looks like Jame sees the bigger picture even for the next round
True, although it seems boring at times. To have an AWP in next rounds really helps the economy of team and the capability to compete in that next round. Additionally, adding Yekindar to VP as a supper aggressive and successful entry frager helped a lot to team dynamic.
Yeah, weapons like AWPs can be a huge hit to team finances so saving them is a big advantage. You might lose the round now but win yourself more rounds in the future off the back of a saved $5000

Seeing the new vp team is a bittersweet feeling. You know the team is heading towards a steady good direction, at the same time missing the vp’s golden 5

@@chessnoob5279 dayum. Didn't know that
The clip at 14:17 where the casters are saying "hes going for the lottery with those noscopes" is extremely ironic considering its against Navi and s1mple constantly hits lucky noscopes and laddershots XD
If you're on a pistol save, getting a pick on a fully geared player and then fucking off is a pretty good result - 2700 for an AK, -1000 for armor/helmet, 1100-1200 for nades, it's at least a little sting to keep them from buying nonstop once you're back in, hopefully.
"winning is great, but is it really worth being hated over"
Love your stuff and all your videos but to answer this stupid question.
Yes - It is definitely more important than being hated on, it's a competition with money on the line. If it works then why stop. If the fans don't like it, bad luck. We're not here to watch who's the most flashiest, we're here to see who is the best.
But they aren't the best ...

I think in a weird way it’s good to have a team like this, it shows that patience instead of boldness is also a just as viable strategy.
It’s probably also true that their matches are a lot more technical and detail focused.
dude if you simply count over the course of a match how much money jame makes his team by saving and dropping weapons to his team every round it would shut all the haters up. at katowice this year there was a match on mirage where krimz went 13-2 in first half on ct side dropping for his teammates every round. guess who out-ecod him? jame. he has now ascended to the level where he just buys a p250 every round, drops his teammates, and picks up weapons from the floor.
I think it's shocking that Jame is the exception and not the rule, you would expect this to be the norm in million dollar tournaments, but somehow the aggressive "pub" playstyle became the way to play a great awp - I'm thankful for it lmao
Truly their run was marked as a fluke bc of the “Krieg and AUG” Meta at the time and they truly just played greatly around Jame and Sanji
I had to save this video for the next day, so I don't fall asleep watching it. Yes, pun intended. Jame is sick tho, no doubt.

I'm getting back into CSGO after years of maybe playing a couple comp games a year, and even longer since following the Pro scene. I recently watched a highlight reel of the Stockholm PGL major, and saw an absolute madman, after killing an awper at the end of Apps, smoke his dead body, drop his own awp, bhop down apps into the smoke, pick up the enemy awp, bhop back, and throw it out of the map. That man was Jame. I thought 'holy shit, this guy's some freaking crazy risk-taker, I've got to look him up. Imagine how much of a vibe check this video was to me hahahaha.

Well, Jame is my favorite player in VP. He has this cool vibes in him.

That Kenny clip is amazing
TLDR: Smash Melee player Hungrybox is very similar to Jame. VERY similar.
In response to "Winning is great, but is it really worth being hated over?", I can only really think of the melee player Hungrybox.
Hungrybox plays Jigglypuff, which is essentially the most slow and defensive character in melee. In a game like melee where fast movement and things that are fun to watch are celebrated, many players hated on HBox for a long time for his slower and methodical play style, however he was good at it. Very good.
HBox has been the only Puff player in the top 35 best players in pro play for about a decade now, not to mention that he consistently wins tournaments almost to a point where if HBox is in a tournament he is expected to win. Hungrybox has gotten so good in fact that even though everyone loves to play Fox, Puff's hardest counter, HBox has learned to fight Fox players and beat them consistently.
While I believe Hungrybox got significantly more hate than Jame has, both players are similar for it, and both of their respective communities began to apprieciate them finally.
