    why did you choose sealed enclosure? how do you find sealed compared to ported? thanks for your experience!!

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  4 года назад

      Well these would require at least a 20 cuft box to really benefit from a deep tune in a ported enclosure. So space was one issue. But honestly you don't really need to go ported when you have this sort of displacement. Movies have a lot of subsonic material that most ported boxes wouldn't be able to play. These are playing 7 Hz at 115 dB, and are pretty flat at 120-125 db from 10 Hz up.

      Yea... I'll let you build a 38 cu ft enclosure and move that around your place 🤣 again, output is not an issue with 3 of these. I have 4 now for symmetry. "Small" sealed enclosures work very well for these drivers

  • @zerotohero7449
    @zerotohero7449 5 лет назад

    Amazing setup but a few questions if I may? Why do you not use screws on a box that will be subject to massive amounts of force? Mounting your centre speaker on the subs will affect the centre speakers performance - have you thought about building some kind of 'legs' onto it so it can contact the floor instead? What have you planned for isolation between all your speakers and the floor like spikes - this will give a huge improvement to sound quality.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 лет назад

      Thanks man. I've said many times before to others that my setup is not perfect. Gotta work with what I have. but regarding your questions... So I didn't use screws as they don't work well in MDF. Tend you split the wood. Plus once the glue dries, it's stronger than the wood itself. I brad nail things to hold joints tight while the glue dries. The isolation pads the center channel is on work pretty darn well. Little to no vibration. And everything is sitting on a concrete foundation.
      I'm not saying that there aren't things that could be done that would slightly increase sound quality. But honestly how noticeable would it be? I do what I can to improve the SQ in my room, but there are many compromises I've had to make and I try not to get wrapped up too much in over analysis.

      Its all tuned to blend fairly well. I run my bass about 10-15 db hot depending on the material, but you need they increase in output to make everything sound level. Hi mate, the Sinbosen amp - does it clip the subs at all? Also, does it's fans sound like a jet enginer? I'm considering the same amp or a slightly smaller one, all my research seems to say the copy amps can be loud. Also, you're using the Emotiva for your main speakers, curious as to why not Sinbosen again - sound quality issues? Your advice would be a great help, thanks!

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 лет назад

      The amp itself has clipped before I got the miniDSP and tuned everything up. I think the output voltage is a little higher on the minidsp vs my receiver so that probably helped a bit. But it's pushing the amp damn near it's limits per channel. I've bottomed out the sub once before tuning when I only had 1 box made up. Haven't done so since. And yes, it sounds like a jet taking off lol. Best to have it in a separate room or it will be very distracting. I really didn't feel the need to get a super high power amp for the mains since they are 99db efficient. Might get some feedback noise from them due to that as well, not sure though. 200w per channel with the emotiva is more than enough to push my mains over 120db if needed, which is stupid loud. I'd only push the sub frequencies that loud and it still hurts my ears after a few short demos! I love the amp though, would buy another in a heart beat. 2k watts x 4 channels rms only taking up 2u of each space!

    • @danielmuggeridge3919
      @danielmuggeridge3919 5 лет назад

      @@LifeofBliss Awesome, thanks for that - I was worried re: the fan noise, I don't have the opportunity to place it somewhere else currently - might look into a different cooling solution on the case, larger fans and graft them into the lid or some such using the existing wiring to ensure they don't cause an error - thanks and keep the content coming!

      They are great with anything I've thrown at them. I've listened to quite a bit of music and the best word I can describe them as is effortless. Playing soft, loud, and everything in between. With the multiple subs and after tuning, they just disappear in the room (sound wise lol). And they sound as natural as subsonic sounds can be I would assume 😉 thanks man

    why not fill the box from polly fil. from what I have seen in demos with and without polyfil. the polyfil dipped down 2hz lower and had slightly lower resistance. Also where did you put the mic during the rew graphs. how far from the subs roughly? trying to figure out if I will be happy with 2 sealed hs24 subs near field.

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 лет назад +1

      I didn't have enough polyfill at the time to fill both. I'll probably add it in once I disassemble them for painting. I added some in the little extension area but not in the main chamber. Will probably add poly to 1 box and test the difference between the 2. Mic was in the listening position roughly 10 ft from the subs

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Ralph. Look up room EQ wizard (REW). It's a free software you can use with a measurement mic such as a UMIK-1. I have a link for that in my description if you arent familiar with those as well. You can take frequency sweeps and adjust your EQ settings on your source to get the desired response. In the case of my subwoofers, they are all ran through a miniDSP HD before the signal is sent to the amp. That box is able to accept a file that REW makes after taking measurements to automatically tune them to a flatter response. Makes it easier, but costs more to have that minidsp obviously... that's the super short version of what I use and how it's tuning things. Good luck man!

    What do you do to keep noise down from rattling in the theatre room? Does it genuinely sound good? Do 24” subs just offer a completely different sound from 12”? I’m not being facetious, I’m genuinely asking. I recently built what I thought to be a nice home theatre til I saw this. Nice work!

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  4 года назад

      Lol thanks man. These genuinely sound great and has been the best upgrade I've done. A single 12 vs a single 24 is a whole different animal. It would take several 12s, like 8 or more depending on the model, to equal the output of a single 24, especially down below 20 Hz where these shine. It takes a lot of air movement to get any sort of spl down that low. To put it in perspective, the dustcap on these are 12 inches in diameter 😅. I would highly suggest demoing one of these if you happen to find anyone local to you that has one. There are a lot of people on AVS Forums that have them and movie nights. It's a fun community to join if you haven't. And rattles? Ha, yea there are rattles. I've fixed a lot of them (gasket tape in the door frames, rubber isolation behind surround speakers and panels...). But unfortunately there are some things that still rattle at over 120db of bass lol. Doesn't really bother me cause it's just the price to pay, but yea there are some. Hope that helps bud

    • @LifeofBliss
      @LifeofBliss  5 лет назад +1

      Yea they do... most movie watching is short bursts of power, so should be fine for the most part. I built the basement from the ground up and prewired everything in the walls with 12 gauge. Didn't plan on such a big setup to be honest, was really thinking I'd do a few 18s like you have. Just working with what I got. Next home I'll know better and run 8 or 10 gauge for the subs 😅
