Brandi is an amazing artist. She has received ten Grammy Awards. The Joke is a beautiful song with an important message and I'm glad someone requested it.
I very glad it got requested! 10 Grammies and I've never heard of her before! Geesh! I happy she's gotten the recognition she deserves and I'm looking forward to more. Gwen, the person that requested this gave me a nice list to start my journey. Danke, Michael!
The version of this song she sang at the Grammies is absolutely drag out GORGEOUS. You get to see tons of today’s music stars standing up and singing and clapping with her. She’s been in the business forEVER and has put out some amazing stuff.
I recommend The Eye if you want another beautiful, haunting song.
Thank you, my friend! This year was the first year I watched the Grammies in over 10 years! Probably why I never heard of her before this. I will check out The Eye and give you a shout out! Much love ❤️
Incredible artist. Collaborated with so many artists... she and the twins (brothers who play with her) all split all rights and proceeds of the music evenly no matter who wrote what.
All her songs are great. Some big ones
The Story
Raise Hell (look for the live version from the cave in Tennessee)
The Eye (studio)
Broken Horses (fairly new)
And I love love love her interpretation of Joni Mitchell's Woodstock (she's worked with her too!)
Activist,philanthropist ... very cool
Brandi keeps getting awesome with every comment I read! I just did Raise Hell but not that version (I'll do the TN one, eventually) and the next is Woodstock from a PayPal donation that will be up very soon. ❤️
She and the twins are ones you truly need to see live. She is even better! If you want to hear harmonizing listen to "The Eye" no words.
Thank you for the recommendation, my friend! I have on the list!! 🤘❤️🤘
I have to agree "The Eye" is gorgeous Harmony. I have followed Brandi since she sang in local bars and coffee shops and she always sounded great but her with the twins are next level.
Thank you so much, Bill, for reacting to this very powerful song, this is Gwen by the way. Brandi is one of the most underrated singer/songwriters. She has produced music for Tanya Tucker, Joni Mitchell, and Brandy Clark. If you want to see a great live performance, watch her Saturday Night Live performance of her song The Story. It may get blocked initially, but it is usually released within a couple of days. Brandi and her wife l live in Washington State with their 2 daughters. She and her wife did a rendition of the Indigo Girls Closer to Fine for the Barbie movie. She won 2 Grammy Awards for this song and a few more for her song Broken Horses. She is considered to be in the Americana genre. You were so right on with your analysis of this song. The other recommendation for a live song would be her cover of Joni Mitchell's song Woodstock from Austin City Limits 2022 concert. And just one more l little fact about me, I'm friends with your buddy Gaye.
Thank you so much, Gwen! Absolutely loved her voice and the message of this song. I wrote down all of your recommendations so I can check out more of her catalogue. Hearing your friends with Gaye lifts my heart! That makes us family ❤️❤️
You're the best!
check out 'right on time' done live in howard stern's studio. amazing. that voice.
Brandi Carlile is relatively new to me. As a matter of fact, it was Gwen's request on another channel that introduced me to her. I'm not an expert on her, by any means, but I have never heard a song from her yet that I didn't like. She is a rabbit hole well worth going down and Gwen's suggestions will be spot on. And, Bill! Your discussion of the lyrics was wonderful, so compassionate and spot on. Thank you, Gwen, for the suggestion, and Bill for that excellent reaction.
Thanks Gaye, my sista!
I just found out you and Gwen are buddies! That is too cool! I can't believe I'm only discovering her now! But the same could be said for all of the artists I've discovered through my channel. What a great job I have! 😁
Thank you so much, my friend! ❤️❤️
Brandi has killed it for years....whether its her own songs or covers she kills it every time! It's crazy how good she is and her band is loaded with talent. The twins in her band(Tim and Phil Hanseroth are crazy talented as well. The twins did a great version of the Sound of Silience.
Thank you for the info, my friend! I didn't know about the twins so now I have a better understanding of her band. ❤️
There's so much power in her voice, while at the same time conveying a deep vulnerability. I adore her. Within seconds of this song starting I have tears in my eyes.
What do I hear when I listen to this song? I feel seen, even though she's never seen me. I'm trans, and living in a country where a large portion of the state, and federal governments want to make my very existence illegal. I'm a truck driver, so I'm travelling all across the country, spending weeks on end away from my family, and getting verbally attacked simply for existing in public. Fortunately it hasn't turned physical yet, but I know that's always a possibility.
This song gives me hope that it won't always be like it is now. That eventually, maybe even in my lifetime, kindness, compassion, and empathy will rise above the hatred and division.
I hope so too, my friend. All I can do is wish you the best and hope that one day you'll be able to live in peace. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers while you're on the road. 🙏🙏❤️❤️
Go listen to her sing this live on the grammys.I paid almost four hundred dollars to go see her in a small venue and it was worth every single penny
Wow! that's a lot of dough but it's Brandi Carlile!! I'm sure it was worth every penny! ❤️
If you want to go back to earlier Brandi you have to listen to "Turpentine" It gives a good foundation of her and the twins. Honestly there isnt a bad song on The Story album.
Thank you, my friend! I appreciate that!
You must hear "The Story" by them
Thank you, my friend! I can't wait! ❤️
She's one the greats! I love her.
Me too! ❤️
Love Brandi and recommend checking out more from her. As well as performing with the twins, she’s also part of The Highwomen.
I promise there will be a lot more Brandi on my show! ❤️
2 words powerful moving
As my Aunt Angie once told me, if everyone was the same it would be boring. Such a profound song that is simply pushing empathy and sympathy, which currently in this world is sorely lacking.
Another amazing choice! You nailed this one. Brandi sure knows how to write em. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thank you, my friend! Much love! 🤘❤️🤘
Brandi!!! So glad you enjoyed this! I love this song, but never saw the video before. Crying in my coffee. Love & thanks to you & Nancy❤❤
Oh no! Don't cry in your coffee! It'll get all salty 😁All our love to you, V! ❤️❤️
Brandi is amazing. She is an independent voice and a force.
I love that you immediately picked up on the voices in the background, and that the people who we see are outside of that community… left out.
And yes, I believe she’s referring to refugees, including those that come across the U.S. border with Mexico.
She really is amazing, the more I learn about her. Such a beautiful song. Thank you, my friend! ❤️
Spot on
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you so, so much my dear friend! You are Awesome! Much love! 🤘❤️🤘
Another great reaction. Love it.
You have great taste in music, my friend! Brandi, Dan Vasc, Joe and Beth. That's fire!! Much love ❤️❤️
The song is definitely referring to refugees and immigrants in the second verse. Brandi and her wife, Catherine, have a charity called Looking Out that raises lots of money for children all over the world affected by conflicts and wars. She's a champion of the misfits - and her fans call ourselves the Bramily - Brandi's family. Her concerts are love fests. Check out more of her music, you can't pick a bad one 'cause there are no bad ones.
Bramily- love that! I knew she was a good person! Thank you so much for the info, my friend!
❤❤❤
OMG…I was going to suggest you listen to her. I’ve been listening to her music since 2008 and have so much respect and appreciation for her. Her song “Party of One” on that same album is beautiful. That whole album is amazing. Her song “Sugar Tooth” will hit you in the gut if you’ve ever loved an addict who was probably the best person you’ve ever known, yet sadly, the drugs/alcohol got in the way.
Sometimes some artist comes across my path that I want to check out and sometimes people recommend an artist to go check out. I take those recommendations and start an index card on them for the near future and sometimes people request an artist like Brandi and Beth Hart. I'm really grateful for those because it puts me right onto the artist right away.
I did not have those songs on my list but now they are! When I do Party of One, I'll give you a big shoutout, my friend! Unless of course, I get a donation request for it then I'll thank you on Sugar Tooth. Thanks and much love ❤️❤️
@@BemusingBill that would be great! I learned about Brandi Carlile from a concert she performed at for The Indigo Girls. Their writing is like poetry, very similar to Taylor Swift. I’ll definitely subscribe soon. I took in a friend of mine who was down on his luck and didn’t have a place to stay. He stayed with me for 4 months. Of course, people cost money, but he left last week so I should be a bit more flush soon!💗
@@BemusingBill Hey, check out Fulton County Jane, too. Her self-titled and Giving Up The Ghost albums are amazing, too. Like many here, I've been following Brandi for years. I travel far and wide to see her live; she's that good. Oh yeah, That Wasn't Me (video features Kris Kristofferson); don't sleep on that one.
I agree about a lot about you are talking about And we should discuss this more deeply.
Right! A deeper dive is needed.
