I did a bit of research and realized 1:5 twist rate barrels are what you want for subsonic 300 Blk rounds to get the best accuracy. I bought a 1:5 twist barrel for my build and so far it's spot on with accuracy, often shooting holes nearly on top of the hole before it.

I believe you want a higher twist rate for the slower speed ammo to stabilize, alternatively, use the blunt nose stuff which has a more fwd CG than the A-max and will stabilize at the lower RPM. I'm shooting the Ruger ranch bolt gun in 300 AAC 16" barrel and 1:7 twist, sub MOA groups.
@@BuffRANGE waiting for some ridiculously high priced ss190 black tip 5.7x28 to show up. Got my 5.56 can on the Ruger LC carbine. Hardly silent but hearing safe with no ear pro.
Berry plated 220g is cheap and the softer plating allows for expansion at low speeds especially if you just file the copper off the tip, it expands better than the majority of .308 offering apart from maybe sub x.
I wouldn’t blame the ammo for a PSA build not liking the ammo. I get sub 1’ groups out to 150y out of my 10.5 criterion core barrel with hornady black 208g amax. Tho it definitely could be a different in hornady vs AAC. Great vid.

Its a pressure issue with the buffer. The pressure comming off the blast of the bullet is JUST short of it at the specs this bullet is at. One slight step down in weight should solve the issue. Or adjust your has block to hold in more pressure (if you have an adjustable one) Literally he just said this after I typed it 😂

It’s a lack of gas. Some subs right a line of being subsonic in all barrel lengths or possibly going super. If you loaded this specifically for a 7” barrel and got 1050 it would cycle. Having an adjustable gas block would also have helped.
Good video! Just wondering if an adjustable gas block would help give more gas? Seems like the only thing it could do for you is turning down gas. The gas port hole would need to be bigger to help right? I’m learning still so wondering. Thanks!
Can confirm at 300 win mag velocities these are deadly. I push them around 2900 at the muzzle and theyll kill a whitetail deader than dead at any distance you can ethically hit them
Would you recommend for home defense suppressed? I’m building an indoor rig. I have an 8” build I’m more than likely going to switch to a 10.5” barrel with adjustable gas block and top it off with my omega 36m suppressor.
In my opinion, no. Given these are subsonic bullets and the massive amount of penetration you would be better off with an expanding 300 BLK load. Will these work most definitely, but would say something like from Discrete Ballistic would perform better for your use parameters.
Most of the 200+ grain loads for the blkout is poor accuracy because it just doesn't like to stabilize at such low velocity. I dont go above a 178 grain and it can be fired subsonic.
Theres a whole lot of choice with .308 but the fact is that most of it is meant for those higher speeds. Alot of the soft point and otm have virtually no expansion. I like the berry 220g bullet just because its design for the caliber and the softer plating actually expands at low speeds especially if you file copper off the tip. Sub x is way too expensive amd they dont even have anything above 200g
is there a load for subsonic that expands at all? I get that its basically a pistol round, and they are meant to expand at their velocity, is anyone making a for sure expanding 300bk? Like the Hornady's?
I honestly want to know what the appeal of .300 Blk is. Yeah, you can get supers, but from the barrel length most people are shooting them from, they still aren't above the minimum threshold for cavitation damage from a spitzer projectile. It's okay ballistics, if you think of it more as a magnum handgun round. But let's face it; the cartridge exists for the subsonic offerings, which almost always suck. On paper it is matching a .45 ACP. But in reality, most loads use heavy match bullets that don't perform well at subsonic velocity, whereas at least with a .45, or even a 9mm, you can count on bullets designed to perform at those velocities. Without expensive specialty projectiles, the .300 Blk always seemed like a solution in search of a problem to me. I'd honestly rather have a legit pistol cartridge for suppression and a legit high velocity rifle cartridge for everything else. The .300 Blk falls in those over-hyped niche rounds, like 5.7x28, that never seem to perform well in testing.
I don't disagree with you. For me I've found validity of using AP 30 cal laods in 300 BLK and them defeating plates that advanced 5.56 bullets (M193, M855, and M855A1) couldn't defeat, but that's not a common use case for everyone. I do like me some 5.7 but it in the grand scheme of things will never = even the most compromised 5.56 load.
Adleast your aac fired.. I bought the 110 vmax awhile back and literally half the ammo wouldn't fire the primer was struck and I even ran the ones that didn't fire through the mag a 2nd time and they were just duds personally not a fan of aac at all
@Buffman - R.A.N.G.E. .308Win kurz lol. Yup. If one is gonna shoot heavy boi subs, it makes sense to have a specific upper built for those loads - barrel twist rate and gas port size. The ammo performance did what it was supposed to do. It's a good offering. Although, I don't see the point of using an A-Max bullet. The same performance could be achieved with standard fmj.
@@Enjoyer.762 In all honesty that's where I'm at. These bullets at subsonic speeds lack terminal performance. Why spend $$$ on Amax and SMK when an FMJ can do what's needed.
