    One of the main reasons I hunt with a 300 blk sub is so the guys I hunt with can have a chance to hunt. I usually go 1st thing in the morning and they hunt about an hour after me. Where we hunt you will only get 1 shot per day if its supersonic. The subs I use work great, never more than 75 yrds. Game drops within 10 ft. Plus 2 small holes and not alot of ruined meat.

      Absolutely correct sir and thank you for attempting to show the physical differences as best possible . Like the man said, some ppl live to argue and stir the pot . Hydrostatic and hydraulic shock from the super sonic rounds plays a huge roll in shutting the central nervous systems down . As you said the 200 Grn subsonic is about a 45 acp worth . Which has been scientifically proved that there’s negligible shock associated with the pistol round velocity and energy . Just not enough speed to introduce the shock effect. Thanks Adam . Just curious which do you prefer in the 300 blackout, the Ruger American or the Savage Axis I’d love to see a head to head comparison and hear your preferences . Thanks

    As I recall, the entire idea behind 300 Blackout is to make a round roughly equivalent to the 7.62x39 that will function better in the AR platform. The primary reason is that it would be better primarily for suppressed use in CQB situations, while still having the option to fire high velocity for other purposes. A subsonic 5.56 is like shooting a .22 Long Rifle, while a subsonic .30 caliber bullet is more akin to typical sub gun rounds. Your AR would be better for multiple purposes in a single caliber. It wasn't meant to be a deer hunting round. Much like the7.62x39 that it was made to mimic, it'll do the job just fine... provided you're not trying to use the subsonic rounds, meant to mimic performance of a sub gun round.

      As we all know the .300Whisper (.300-221) is the parent for the .300BLK. AAC were just smart enough to take the .300Whisper from a Wildcat to a Commercial cartridge with SAAMI approval.
      .300Whisper was very popular with many handgun hunters.
      In South Africa, the .300Whisper was a bit of a fad in the early 2000’s when matched to a sound suppressor in the handgun hunting circles.
      It was particularly effective in commercial culling operations.

      You got it backward.
      Just like the name, Whisper and Blackout, supressed subsonic was the intent. And only later when people load it with lighter projectile and realizing it has identical ballistic to kalashnikov at supersonic speed.

    I hunt with .300 BLK supersonic ammo, and it has proven very effective on hogs and deer at shorter ranges. I believe subsonic would be deadly too at shorter ranges since the heavier bullet will penetrate well. The profile of a .300BLK subsonic bullet is much different from a .45 ACP and will penetrate better. Shooting reasonable distances for the cartridge and bullet placement are important. Lots of hogs of all sizes have fallen fatally to .300 BLK subsonic ammo. That being said, I prefer supersonic for my purposes.

    • @audrybella6405

      Ditto. Supersonic 150 gr loads are lethal within 100 yards every time. Still pretty good out to 150 yards but that is where we try to draw the line. We did have one kill close to 200 yards on a small whitetail (thanks to a lucky shot right through the heart).

    I use subs .300 supressed while hunting behind a residential area that is farm land. The Makerz REX perform better than the Hornady SubX, based on personal experience. Shot 4 deer with subs, and wouldn't hesitate to shoot a trophy if within 75 yds. But yes, if noise wasn't a concern sure I'd choose supers over them.

    • @davidsonfitness318

      No one should use SubX for hunting. Solid copper expanders like Makers, Discreet Ballistics, Cavity Back and others are the way to go. It's like bow hunting with a gun. You get a solid copper that expands to almost an inch, 3X caliber expansion, with a fast twist to cause massive bleeding

    The subsonic is about like a.45ACP. I won’t get a .300 Blackout because I already have a CMMG Banshee in 9mm. With 147 grainers I don’t see enough of an advantage to justify the extra expense of.300 ammo. (Lol. I wrote this before I heard him say the same thing)

    Well now this was a interesting video in a very interesting comparison. I already knew what the results would be because velocity wins every time. I have messed around with hand loads on the 300 blackout and when I want a subsonic round I load a 200 grain bullet and it's fun to play with. It's so quiet with my banish 30 like you say it' just makes hardly no noise at all.

    That was a really fun video!!! I need a .300blk bolt gun. One thing to consider in your .45acp analogy is the shape of the bullet. .45 is basically a ball of lead hitting with a much larger surface area. .300blk is a sleek pointy tip. More concentrated impact.

    Well, energy is mass x acceleration. Slightly less mass, but significantly higher speed = more energy on target, especially at longer ranges.
    One significant benefit of the subsonic round is potentially greater accuracy than a round where the bullet slows from supersonic to subsonic through it’s flight, as it will become unstable in that transition. This is common in the 22rimfire rounds, but as the 300BO supersonic round is generally used at ranges far shorter than where it transitions, this wouldn’t be an issue.
    As a military cartridge, it is designed for a specific use, being sneaky, and taking out the enemy without alerting their mates. As a hunting cartridge, with a properly loaded bullet, it is great for minimising the risk of alerting other target species when culling, but as a specific hunting round, I want a more definite, humane, rapid kill, with minimal damage to the carcass.

    The supersonics will always do more damage and have more range. If you are shooting in a blind with other people or kids or culling multiple animals, the subsonics give some benefits. I use the subsonic for interior defense, because they don't pop your ear drums in the middle of the night when you don't have time to get on ear pro. With my silencer, my .308 subsonics sound like a pellet rifle going off, but produce about 545 ft/lbs of energy. It's better than many 9mm supersonic loads as it has more mass and yet won't pop your ears. If you shoot in an enclosed blind, it's also nice not to hear the supersonic crack. If you are walking, using an open blind, then you are likely better served by the supersonics. If you have any chance of a shot past 150 yards, you definitely want supersonics in my opinion. Honestly though WhoTeeWho, it doesn't really take that much energy to drop a deer. I shot one through the heart with a subsonic NON expanding .45 colt bullet that went in .45 cal and came out maybe .50 cal and punched through. He went 3 hops and dropped dead. It's really about shot placement and if you are smart with the range, the subsonics can be a great tool to add to your arsenal, but they will NEVER perform like a supersonic. They have minimal hydrostatic shock because they are below 2100 fps.

      @@WHOTEEWHO I've helped many friends try to recover deer they shot in the heart with a 30-30 or 243 etc. Sorry you had a bad experience, but that doesn't mean it's all inclusive. A Bullet like that sub-x from Hornady or Maker bullets subsonic expanders are much better than just using a subsonic match bullet, which is what a lot of companies sell as their subsonic loads. ;). To each their own though.

  • @davidsonfitness318
    @davidsonfitness318 8 месяцев назад +1

    Neither of these and I have been hunting with 300blk exclusively for several years. SubX is substandard for hunting. You would be much better off solid copper expanders like Discreet Ballistics, Makers Rex, Cavity Back, and others. These bullets will expand to 3X caliber and will be approximately 1 inch. Its like bow hunting with a gun. Your not depending on energy to kill, you are cutting and causing massive bleeding. With a proper bullet just like a proper broadhead and good shot placement, subsonic ammo is fine and the subsonic 300blk will nearly double the range of your bow

    Id be no more confident using .300 blk subsonic vs .45acp with the exception of superior bullet placement/ aiming potential of a rifle.
    Imo .300 blackout is popular solely for quiet, short range in a familiar platform. I still don’t own one. I think it’s gonna be around a while. Will stay with tried and true hunting calibers for deer. It is fun to shoot subsonic with a supressor. It has its small niche. I think suppressed .45 acp w a micro red dot is as good or better due to light weight and conceal- ability. (For close range deer).
    With the right bullet. Thank you Adam. I enjoy your thoughtful content.

    Subsonic is for doing the needful without alerting the rest of the rio-- erm, pack. Supersonic is for stacking things in a bad situation. If you catch my drift.
    Or for hunting, I suppose. Either way, having the ability to have a little mag of subs for when bad things are happening in your house, or you need to be shush shush AND the ability to have your other mags full of supers for going hard in the paint is a hell of a thing. Not the biggest thing, but a thing none the less.

  • @natjonestower3035
    @natjonestower3035 9 месяцев назад +1

    Some of those subs will go through as many milk jugs as you can drink in half a year, hard to say why you'd need something like that other than target shooting quietly. Big boy should hit like an AK round.

    Great video. I’d love to see a gel block test to see how the subs perform, if they expand. Supers are still the way to go for hunting game.

      Sub X sucks and would never use as a hunting round. Solid Coppers from Discreet Ballistics, Makers Bullets, Cavity Back and others are the way to go. These subs will expand to over 3X caliber and will be right around 1 inch. Now match that with a 1:5 twist. It's like shooting a broadhead out of a bow

  • @butchersblock4539
    @butchersblock4539 9 месяцев назад

    Treat the Sub as you would a compound bow and it has a place.
    Or very close head/ neck shots

    Can we get a 300BLK vs 450 Bushmonster, super v subs video?

  • @rangetime6779
    @rangetime6779 9 месяцев назад

    You are correct, the 300 Blackout subs are like a 45 ACP. The only way to get more power in subs is increase the bullet weight. The 450 Bushmaster with the Hornady 395 makes the power of a 44 Mag and would be adequate for deer.

    • @jasonauchmuty1617
      @jasonauchmuty1617 5 месяцев назад

      they are definitely still better than .45 acp especially if they tumble.

    Sub-sonic blackout is very equivalent to big bore air-gun hunting. If you haven't tried it, do it, it will expand your horizons.

  • @chrissewell1608
    @chrissewell1608 9 месяцев назад

    .300 Black was designed for the military, for use in urban combat situations and being suppressed. Not for big game, long range, hunting. That being said. If your hunting woodland areas in the South East, you'll probably not get any 300 yard shots! (We all dream of a long range hunt, but Rarely get the chance, here!) So, most hunting is done within 100 yards. A suppressed .300 Blk Out has enough velocity, and energy to harvest a whitetail deer at the range.
    We just saw you blow a hole, in clay, big enough for a coffee can to go through! And soft tissue reacts way different than clay.
    I agree that the supersonic round will provide a fast & clean kill.
    But at close range... I'd hunt with subsonic! Especially for ferrel hogs & coyote, at night.

    with decent shot placement I would take the less shock and have less damage to the meat as that is why I hunt.

  • @briangabriel4165

    From those numbers you posted in that other video id like to see this at a hundred yards because it would become way more apparent why you shouldn't use subsonic for hunting.
