In my opinion, the best use for custom lego stickers is for small items. For example, you could put a sticker on a 1x1 brick to make a food box. I think this is ok because you would otherwise not be able to get that detail, and it doesn't really affect the realism of your city. On the other hand, I believe bigger stickers take away from the point of lego. You should create all the detail of a building with different types of bricks instead of building a simple wall, printing a sticker with the facade of a building, and placing it on top. After watching the video fully, I now realize this is almost exactly what you said
I think things like "Starbricks" are fun little nods to brands rather than being a bad thing - like you say, it's personal taste, if you want a more realist City then it's up to the individual.
@@SmallBrickCity And as long as you aren't in competition with the holder of the real trademark, I see nothing wrong with using it (and courts agree). That's why Leppin is a bad thing, but someone selling some stickers for Lego sets with the name "Star bricks" and a logo that looks different in detail from the official Starbucks logo would be fine (unless of course Starbucks themselves were also selling such a sticker set). Now, if only the official sticker set were available at a reasonable price (they're terminally out of stock from Lego directly and prices from 3rd party channels are going through the roof, now up to 25 pounds) I'd get a few packs...
I agree.with you. Lego is about creating. I got a sticker set quite a long time ago. The nice thing about them you could reuse them. But I can't remember who made them. I can't wait till the new lego stickers.
I'm not really fond of stickers because they tend to peel and fray over time plus I get them on crooked sadly but as for lego using full stickered or brick built or prints it really depends on the set and for the third party stickers real world or not I agree with you on that
thank you for sharing with us your thoughts on sticker use, I myself prefer to use Lego set stickers in mocs, atleast then I know for sure it fits the Lego theme to a T . When I design a moc in LDD I try my best at a brick built idea before I commit to a "rite that has to be done with a sticker :( " or "I can add a sticker there" to complete an idea. your vending machine and arcade games (which by the way are awesome! , love the pinball game) are a perfect example of a brick built Lego looking build that I would try 1st and as you say are "easily recognizable" for what they are trying to portray. Love your work, keep the videos coming!
Thanks for sharing and the kind words. There are some 3rd party providers who do excellent printed tiles that are in the vein of LEGO's artwork. Mainly smaller stuff but it can get addictive and it is easy to overdo it.
Great thoughts! I was planning on making a Tim Hortons in LEGO, but this inspired me to instead change the name to Brick Hortons. As for the sticker sheets my mind was working on where I could use them when I am getting into the further stages of my city! Man I can’t wait for that pack, I may end up purchasing more than one! And yes, that is exactly what happened, they saw your video and then made the pack.... for sure.....
You are so creative. Always pushing to build something new. Enjoyed the discussion and appreciate all the points that were made. I am not currently building a LEGO city however if I was it would be great to find someone who printed custom stickers or prints where you could get some specific pieces to enhance the city in a few areas. Ha ha LEGO's has someone watching your vids!
Thanks for your kind words! There are 3rd party vendors who provide printed tiles not in the LEGO catalog and there are some who will custom print your own graphics but it is very costly and you need a minimum quantity of a couple of 100s.
Im a bit like Switzerland...I shall remain neutral I neither like nor hate sticker...but it is very cool that LEGO coming out with those fun stickers..👍
I have to BOTH agree and Disagree ; sometimes when building something like aaaasa Bookshelves I don’t have all the plates for the books so what do I do leave the shelf’s empty or our a sticker for books until I get an order from bric link “NO “ I use a sticker 🤷♂️
I understand what you mean. If the choice is because you have no parts, then there is no real choice. But, if you have the plates, then I would always choose plates over the sticker.
I stopped applying stickers when I'm building new sets. My rule is when it looks good enough don't use stickers. If I feel something is missing I can apply the stickers later. But I'm lazy so I never do it later ;)
@@SmallBrickCity I'm actually thinking about applying at least that huge sticker on the 60197 train. I prefer prints over stickers but sometimes I'm glad that the pieces are not printed so I can use the pieces for something else if I don't apply the stickers :)
I believe that being a lego purist is one thing. But LEGO is ment to channel your creativity in any way weather it be homemade stickers or useing megabloks as structural blocks!
I have the same opinion on stickers as you do for your city. As long as the stickers are consistent as in the fact of lego style stickers carrying through in custom ones. That's why I am glad the extra sticker sheet has similar stickers as ones in sets. Are extra sets only in official lego shops? Because I have never saw any before in a shop as I haven't been to an official lego store since I went to legoland when they were not released as that was in 2012 and only released last year.😄
I meant that I haven't saw any extra packs before in shops, not only the stickers as you mentioned it is coming later this year, where as there are already some extra packs out such as the food one and the bike one which I haven't seen in shops so I presume the are exclusive to official lego shops.
I prefer military MOCs. Since LEGO doesn’t want to sell any military themed sets (franchises not withstanding)… my airbase/airport can have more realistic builds and stickers! I agree that LEGO offers something for everyone and we have no right to control want others like or build, but we can get cranky about it on RUclips while being respectful to our follow human beings.
For me the usage of stickers really is somewhat against the spirit of LEGO, because the challenge that I find is to work with what you have, not what you could custom make using a printer. LEGO for me is about 3D form of art and and unless the detail is really too small to be brickbuilt, printing a sticker is absolutely a pass. Also another issue is the quality - custom printing is usually done with printers that are less proffecional than the official LEGO ones. Those tend to look more dotted when you look closely and it seems inconsistent with LEGO's perfection IMO.
I don’t agree that making your own stickers that are “similar” to existing brand logos is the same as say Lepin making knock-off Lego sets. For example if you’re into making Lego moc’s and you create your own “Star Bricks” logo based on Starbucks, you’re not actually taking anything away from Starbucks as they are not competing with you for market share (in fact you could argue you’re essentially promoting their brand for them). Lepin in the other hand is blatantly stealing from Lego with like-for-like sets
My rule for my Lego Island is not to make copies of world famous landmarks that still exist in the world so I would try to make a landmark exclusive only to my island.
Heartily agree with your points. You can also get tons of Lego stickers in some of the books, though not all as relevant to a city.
True! I think I have seen Jang share a city sticker book that had all kind of city stickers but I have never found that book.

For the sticker sheet with the Joker and Catwoman, those are from the LEGO Batman Videogame, so I think that it is perfectly reasonable to use

What Do you think about custom Printed pieces ( custom molds)
I think that is crossing the link. I feel we must work within the parameters of what LEGO produces.
