      The motherboards are expensive but I don't get why people keep talking about the ran if you dont have ddr4 you'd still need to get it on a ryzen system and ddr5 is not only worse but also more expensive so why get that now?

      But I notice something at Intel, different from the politics of the past. Something that betrays a little despair. All the performance boost they get over AMD is done by the crazy increase in power. That is, an increase of + 15% in performance is made with an increase of + 80% in consumption. Which in terms of efficiency is terribly stupid.

      @@AlfaPro1337 You're saying AMD is milking their architecture despite actually giving us good gains from generation to generation. Whereas during the Intel era we only saw like 7% gains MAX per new gen.
      I'm not an AMD fanboy as i would always go for what's best and Intel is looking really promising again now. However you should be damn grateful for AMD pushing Intel actually make a change.

    Leaving out DDR5 for the moment, the price of the Intel motherboard vs AMD B550 plus 5600X is a big factor here. You need to price up a 12600K plus motherboard plus DDR4 (if you already have DDR4 even better) vs 5600X plus motherboard plus DDR4 (again if you already have DDR4 even better).

      Yeah intel will probably cost a bit more but the 12600k looks way better than the 5600x.
      Not entirely sure how I feel tho. I miss the days when a flagship cpu costed 180 euros and would easily last 13 years and still be going strong.

If you look price/performance of whole package (MB+CPU+RAM+GPU) , AMD still has advantage and if they lower prices (as they would probably do) this advantage would increase. We have come to a point where few people actually use their CPU at 100% processing power.

      @@tilburg8683 12600k itself does look better than 5600x, however, the more expensive Z690 mb and a good cooler(can handle 150w) does add up the price. AMD just need a price cut on 5600x, and it can still be a very decent choice and save around 150-200$ compare to 12600k.

      those Z690 boards also are a lot better equipped vs B550 and X570, as far as I/O and power delivery goes.
      Gigabyte's cheapest Z690 (Z690 UD) is a 50a 16+1+2 phase VRM, which is already better than a vast majority of their previous boards, and completely overkill in general, especially when you consider the heatsink and airflow.

      @@xzm996 Even against a ryzen 5800, the mobo is roughly $90 more than a b550, .......$140 more than a b450. at the current prices I'd still do a 5800 or 5900 over the 12600k.

      12400 has 6 cores and12600k has 6c+4e cores. the cpu brnchmark score for the extra 4e core is about 7800. thats an extra 7th gen core i5

    Thank you, again, for testing overclocking and voltage adjustment. No one else ever does, yet this is all I want to know. 170W power consumption is okay for 6 cores running at 5.2 GHz and 4 efficiency cores running at 4.2 GHz.

      @@jayvee8502 This is at maximum overclock tho, if you dropped the max clocks by 200 MHz from both types of cores, power consumption would go down significantly.

    I have a suggestion: at 8:25 we can see the performance for gaming while recording, but referencing the original F1 2021 results requires quite a bit of skipping back and forth.
    I think it would be helpful if we could more easily see how much performance is lost from recording as an additional reference point.
    Thanks for the review, I really enjoyed it! Also, your test bench looks way too good for a test bench… haha

    Sounds like if you're only into gaming, a R5 3600 I still perfectly capable unless you have a crazy fast GPU like a 3080 or higher. Even then, at higher resolution it may not even matter still.

      I can tell you...
      I had a 6700k at 4,6ghz (4corres)
      And a 3090fe
      My friend has a 9700k 5ghz (8cores)
      And a 3090fe (same clockspeed 2ghz)
      The Max fps around 4k gaming was the same.
      But the mininal fps are higher with more cores.
      In 3440x1440p in Far cry 6
      43/76/98 versus
      54/88/100

      I have a 5600x paired with a 3080 at 1440p and it feels like a pretty good combo to be honest. I used to have a 3070+5600x combo and that made more sense, but the 3080 works great with the lower end cpu’s too at higher resolutions.

      It depends. I thought CPU wouldn't matter at 4K but I was wrong. Multiplayer games are a whole another ballgame, my Ryzen 3600 had hard time with BF2042 beta for example. 80-90% CPU utilization with RTX 3080 while often dropping below 60fps. Friend with a 5900X had a very different experience.
      DICE said consoles won't have a 120fps mode because their CPU isn't fast enough for large scale 128-player matches. Looks like I have to choose between new Intel or upcoming Ryzen refreshes.

    For the 12900k review coming up, I'd love to see how it performs under the 125 TDP Power Limit. Interested in using it in my SFF build, and will definitely not be able to tackle a higher TDP.

      @John Hooper Tons of productivity and emulation apps use all cores at 100%. So I need a machine that can handle full load like that as well. I know during gaming it's sticking to the TDP, but for productivity it goes crazy high. Wouldn't work at all in my build, so that's why I'm curious to see how it would stack up against it's siblings and AMD alternatives within the same TDP limit.

      @@ThunderingRoar Based on Benchmarks I've seen so far, the 12700k draws about 160w under full load, scoring 22700 in Cinebench R23. 12900k scores about 26000 at 160w. It also showed 12900k scoring 21500 at 125w power limit. So the question becomes, what would 12700k score at that limit? 12600k scores about 17000 at 115w, which matches the results Ali got as well. So the point is, 12700k with same limitation would be somewhere above the 17000 score, but below the 21500 125w PL score from 12900k. If it's significantly lower, then it means 12900k can be a good option for a more energy/heat efficient SFF machine.

    I can't wait till we get cheaper DDR5 + AMD APUs with lots of RDNA2 cores. You would very likely be able to achieve GTX 1650S level performance, potentially wayy more.

      I highly doubt rDNA 2 APUs reaching GTX 1650 levels. That simply means AMD has no plans to sell cheap GPUs anymore.

      @@NawfalHasan I did talk to an AMD rep last week and asked him if AMD's next APUs will have similar performance to an RX 480 and he said it's very likely that they will, and possibly more than a RX 580 because of the RDNA2 cores.

    Wasn't too impressed by the 12900K performance benchmarks elsewhere but the 12600K looks like a really decent pick or it will force AMD to drop 5600X prices which IMO are overpriced to begin with compared to 3600X and you can pick that up on a better budget. The only downside for this which wasn't covered here is that it does significantly consume more power than a 5600X until heavy workloads but it's still about 5800X levels which isn't that bad.

      The lowest lga 1700 with ddr4 mobo is $199, I can do a MSI b450 for $50, price wise amd still has the advantage. But I still hope their cpus come down.

      @@lonniebeal6032 Agreed on that. Overall platform costs are still lower on AMD side and there is still a final vCache upgrade left, albeit they are keeping very quiet if it is for 400 series as well or is it 500 only.
      Without a B660 motherboard series, Intel still has much higher overall cost and early adopter fee right now.

    Just an observation man. You are the gigachad of RUclips tech reviewers. Deadset. You always look big on camera, you're actually good at FPS unlike most reviewers who I internally cringe watching play during b-rolls, you have good taste in peripherals and products, visuals and shots are always clean, you don't rely on clickbait, don't make annoying faces on your thumbnails to draw in viewers, don't rely on putting massive impact font writing on your thumbnails. This is king shit, this is how tech reviewers should be.

    Zen 3 was unbelievably fast in valorant. I really wanted see FPS different in valorant between Ryzen 5 5600x and i5 12600k. Hope it will come soon. May be in ddr4 vs ddr5 video.

    I'm feeling very happy about my 5600x purchase earlier this year. The new Intel processors seem fine and nice enough but it is exactly like you said Ali: "It's not an evolutionary leap". I'm going to keep this CPU for a few years at least. Who knows, maybe by the time I'm going to upgrade it will be time for ARM desktop PC's. Thanks for the great review as usual.

    I think 12700 VS 12600k OC will be an interesting comparison, as most user won’t be overclocking their cpu. Pairing a B660 mb with the 12700 should be priced relatively similar to pairing the 12600k with a Z690. I wonder which one will perform better and which one is the better value.

    I would still go for the 5600x. Still more efficient, less heat, doesn't need Windows 11, more mature and cheaper platform (MOBO, RAM).

      Agree. Love my 5600X! 280MM radiator keeps it at 54C all core load too.

      @@trixniisama AM5 is another good option. But I’m waiting for 2nd gen AM5 which by then (hopefully) DDR5 will be better priced and any bugs ironed out. I was an early adopter of the 1700X and I said after that “never again”. The 3D cache will do fine till they release 2nd gen AM5. As for MLiD all he does is throw shit at a wall and hope it sticks. Too early for realistic leaks of AM5

      I also don't want to get the first AM5 generation (so Zen 4), Zen 5 in 2023 seems like a good choice. Or if Intel actually have something to compete for cheaper and that uses less power, I'll go with them, but I doubt it

    Yeah but can it handle gaming AND streaming with a bunch of apps running in the background without having to lower details to a mixture of medium to low settings at 1440p to maintain that 100+ FPS to enjoy 144+hz gaming? If not, then I'll go with the Ryzen 9 5900x.

      5900X is more expensive than 12700K, this video is talking about 12600K which have the same price range as the 5600X

      @@SuperJosteen Yes I know that but as the video showed that it was faster in some regards to the Ryzen 9 5900x, I made the comparison to the Ryzen 9 as a more complete CPU even though it - as of this generation of Intel chips - seems to be a bit slower than Intel, but a better work horse overall.

    Really looking forward to the DDR4 vs 5 face off. There is limited info out there atm, with some reviews not including any comparison, or some with a single kit of DDR4 that seems oddly weak. Add to that some fake looking videos showing very large differences (Im guessing trying to get you to use their affiliate links :S). I game at 4K, Im aware differences will be low, but Id still like to get the overall fastest I can anyway.

    I really hope Intel sticks with this socket for the next few generations. AMD currently has the crown on upgradability. Sucks having to dust a perfectly good Mobo. Not to mention the astronomical unnecessary cost, especially when compared to an AMD upgrade with a B550m.

      13th and 14th gen are confirmed 1700 compatible. Funny enough, both generations are launching within 1 year. 13th gen around November and & 14th gen mid next year. Intel on a roll.

    This is very interesting. I want to know what AMD has in stock for their future lineup. The hybrid cores approach is pretty innovative for desktop processor by Intel. Idk if AMD will go a similar approach or will stick to just performance cores

    Sure but you can use the 5600x with a 100 bucks b550 (or even a $75 b450) and you don't need a cooler, so is still cheaper to go for a R5. But im hyped for the 12400f, it could be the new price/performance king.

    I think it was Linus that said the time to switch over is about a year and a half into production that switching RAM made sense with the DDR3 to DDR4, everything in-between was riding the line between slightly better or on par with well developed previous gen memory. This may not hold true with DDR5 for the simple fact that they can probably charge more for DDR5 and they may phase out DDR4 (or reduce available kits) in favor of the more profitable one.

    Any chance future cpu benchmarking could include world of warcraft? I know it's a hassle to create the most intensive graphics in that game, but it's got some specific hardware usage and it'd be nice to know what the differences are instead of just assuming single core performance is the only metric.

    So I'm convinced the i5 12600k beats the R5 5600x.
    But when you test the i9 vs R9 can you turn PBO on, so they pull similar power?
    LTT and JayzTwoCents for example seemed to test it with PBO off - 5950x only scored 25k in R23 because it pulled 100W less than the 12900k.

      I suggest getting a complete CPU upgrade if possible (more cores + more IPC + higher frequencies) with a 5800x instead of just a slight upgrade (more IPC + higher frequencies)
