    Just an idea: Would love to see a temp to performance efficiency comparisons for the latest CPUs (AMD and Intel). Tested in a 10-12L case, with a low profile cooler, all capped to the maximum TDP you're able to get away with while keeping it for example below 85 C. Then seeing how they perform. Could be a good guide / reference or SFF people to figure out which CPUs to go with and what cooling is required.

    • @coolhand4598
      @coolhand4598 2 года назад +4

    • @HitoriGnocchi

      @odinsplaygrounds 2 года назад +2

      @@HitoriGnocchi Nobody ever said it's rocket science. As well as I have obviously done my research on the matter. A temp to performance test with the latest CPUs would be a continuation to that. Very few outlets ever test within heavy thermal and size (cooler) restrictions, and how much watts a CPU gets can have different effect of impacts to performance, in combination how undervolting works with that particular chip.

    • @odinsplaygrounds
      @odinsplaygrounds 2 года назад +2

      @@coolhand4598 First of all, I said all the latest AMD and Intel chips, not this CPU only. Enthusiasts don't just "forget it", they try to cram as much as possible into the smallest machines to see what they can get away with. Lastly I'm unsure what you mean by doubting there will be many ITX board available. You mean for the entire 12k series? No clue why you'd think that.

      There seems to be a lot of joy in some circles regarding Alder Lake, and Intel certainly deserves some credit. Looks like Intel is competitive again, and I think that's cool, but there is no "knock out" blow to AMD. In addtion, there is the overall consideration for upgrading existing AM4 platforms and getting a respectable boost with something like a 3950x, which is likely very competitive with Alder Lake in some apps, like Blender. Hopefully, AMD will drop prices, or used market prices will drop. And that would make it a no brainer if you've got an existing AM4 system.

  • @kenneth6102

    Intel is pretty much running at 4x the electrical resistance of AMD. The electric bill, the temperature, the cooling system, size of the build…
    The total cost margin is massive if you account for all those things, and whether the slight performance gain is justified.
    Never mind that fact that you can just swap out the CPU with ryzen but replacing the motherboard as well with every generation of Intel CPU.
    If money is not an issue, yes, but you have to be absolutely certain that it's a non-issue.

    what do you recommend regarding the cooling, since the 12900k wants to get really hot and has been given a rectangular design compared to previous CPUs, so that most AIO coolers don't seem to be able to keep it in check well. Do you perhaps also know whether there are already AIO coolers who connect well to this processor? I know that there are upgrade sets/kits, but I mean really made for the 12900k given its design
