If you already have the required platform for the 5800X3D, you can always decide to buy into the newer platforms when you need to - you'd have purchased the same number of new motherboards/CPUs at that point.. Sure, last-gen is a lot better in raw price to performance, but I didn't want to get stuck with no upgrade path on AM4, and I also wanted the power efficiency of parts lower on the generational spectrum. I don't like that you're comparing the 13600 on DDR4 to the rest. It's a DDR5 chip. Gimping it down to DDR4 to put it next to the 5800X3D doesn't make sense. The 5800X3D is meant to compete against the new chips in their optimal configurations. The heads up comparison should be 5800X3D on DDR4 to 13600 on DDR5. The whole point of the 5800X3D is that it's close in performance to these chips without forcing you to rebuild your whole system. It should be based on the products goals and the company's intentions. Instead we have a comparison based on what's good for content creation and talking about trendy parts in a way that frames them in a better light then what they really are. If you pay attention to the video and look for the DDR5 result you can clearly see that the 5800X3D is handily beaten and costs about $100 more than the 13600K. That should be the conversation here. Gamers Nexus made that exact point.

Because things are so close this generation for gaming, for me, I’m looking to AM5 - I want to be able to upgrade long term, and the 13th gen Intel chips are great, but the platform is dead next year. Same as 5800X3D. Being able to amortise my platform cost over years is important for me: but it’s also why I’m not upgrading yet! My 5600X is more than good enough right now :) it’s a good time for consumers in the CPU space.
It’s about the motherboard feature set for me. AM5, the current releases are crazy in terms of future proofing. So if the extra cores in 13th gen are good like you said for future proofing, then the forward looking functionality of the AM5 platform also should be IMO

10:25 it's only half-correct for AM4, honestly as I personally experienced it myself. I hope that AM5 wouldn't be the same.
Started with MSI X370 SLI Plus and R5 1600 back in 2018 thinking that I wouldn't have to upgrade my motherboard, it turns out to be untrue as 1st gen Ryzen AM4 motherboards (A320, B350, and X370) are severely limited when compared to the 2nd gen motherboards (A420, B450, and X470). Fortunately the 3rd gen motherboards are quite good, especially the B550 boards as they're more or less on par in terms of features when compared to X370.
Down the road, I've upgraded to R5 3600 in 2020, then switching up the motherboard to MSI B550 Gaming Plus in 2021, and finally put a stop at R7 5800X3D back in January this year.
