      My friends and I built a full scale FT 17 without instructions.....a matter of doing some research and making deductions for measurements and stuff, sometimes folks at museums will help or even other enthusiasts....if you want it you can do it . Tons of material out there. ruclips.net/video/_sc594ut1BY/видео.html

      Don't tread on me
      I don't. I just do it as a hobby I've thought about doing it as a business but the cost of materials alone is usually around ten thousand. so I don't think too many people would be interested after factoring in a wage for time.

    • @donttreadonme4355

      Don't tread on me
      all materials I keep a file with all the receipts for everything I buy for each tank. so everything from mental to spray paint to the paintball guns mounted in them. then when the build is finished I add up all the receipts and it usually comes out around ten thousand. the Sherman was a little more it was 12 and some change.

    Your 1/2 scale sherman is pretty neat. Personally..I want to build a scaled down version of the British MK I. I can't see myself wanting to build a drivable replica of ANY other tank. I know pretty much every other tank on earth (except the A7V) is better than the British MK I...but I don't care. It is and will always be my favorite tank of all time for the simple fact that it looked so absolutely beautiful!! I want a miniture MK I tank to drive around my property. It will plow/disc the garden. It will haul stuff in a trailer (that I doctor up to look like a radio flyer wagon). It will be the most beautiful tractor that I can imagine!! Since the original thing was so darn big, I think a 1/4 scale version would be plenty. Unfortunately...there are no blueprints left in existance. :'( I will have to rely on very old pictures or visit a museum in England to aquire measurements. Tis a small price to pay for the sake of realising my dream of having a miniature MK I tank lumbering around the homestead!! By the way...your miniature Sherman is more than neat. It's pretty wonderful. Great work.

      thanks. the best way to get measurements I've found is to use a 1/35th scale model then just scale up the measurements. for 1/4 scale you would multiply your measurements by 8.75. I hope this method is useful to you and I wish you the best of luck on your build.

    • @williammanning3174
      @williammanning3174 7 лет назад

      TinyTank428 Thanks mac. I've looked for models of the MK I before. 1/35th scale is standard for tanks and military ground equipment (yet for some strange reason airplane models always seem to be 1/48th scale). I found a MK V one time in the normal polystyrene kit form but the only MK I model I could find was a ridiculously overprice solid polyester resin kit. :( Oh well. The actual measurements aren't as important as the proportions are. I think I can make due with old photographs. I'm clever that way.
      Tell me something...did you ever consider canibalizing a used ZTR lawnmower for its hydraulic motor drivetrain system when you were building your replica? That seems like the easiest way to go about it to me. Set it up just right and you could even have a mower deck on the underside. Just think...not only would you have a really nifty drivable model tank...but also the coolest lawnmower on the block. Heck! It would be the coolest lawnmower in your county.

      William Manning
      I have thought about it but where I live in Wyoming they're not real common In the scrap yard. The setup i use is pretty similar and with the added advantage of being new and not having to worry about why it was taken to the scrap yard in the first place.

    • @williammanning3174
      @williammanning3174 7 лет назад

      TinyTank428 I said used...not scrapped. I meant used like second owner kinda situation. Sorry if I sounded snappy just then. I only meant to clarify, not insult you or disrespect you. My neighbor runs a lawnmower repair shop in his barn and has lots of working surplus stuff sitting around that I can get pretty cheap so I guess my perspective is a little biased. I have a ZTR with a 23 hp engine. It doesn't seem to have a whole lot of power at the wheels but I think that could be improved upon with a little gear reduction. I don't know a whole lot about hydraulic motors but I do understand that tremendous forces can be generated by hydraulic pump. If I ever do build a "toy tank" I would try to keep it as light as possible. It wouldn't actually need any armor. Nobody's gonna be shooting at me...I hope!! Anyway I just figured ztr components would be a quick and easy way to get it done.

      I would if I had any but I'm not much of a drafter. I just use two 1/35th scaled models one assembled and one disassembled. Then measure the various parts with calipers and multiply the dimensions by 17.5 to get half scale. So all I really have are the models and some pieces of scratch paper with a bunch of numbers on them.

      @JamesCookTinyTank428  8 лет назад +2

      Sweet! I more or less do free hand I use a 1/35 scale model and a pair of calipers. Then I just write my measurements down and go to building. I measure as I go and I have a assembled model and a disassembled model for measuring various parts. Blue prints would be nice but I'm not much of a drafter. The best direction I can point you in for the cad file is scaled tanks.com. I'm not sure if anyone will have a whole cad file but it's the best place to look that I know of.

    Hi James, It is a Great work. It seems very heavy. What is the weight of your sherman jumbo?

    • @JamesCookTinyTank428
      @JamesCookTinyTank428  8 лет назад +2

      +Fullway Shee
      That I do not know I have never weighed any of my completed tanks (don't have a scale big enough) I would guess around 1500lbs

    • @fullwayshee2350
      @fullwayshee2350 8 лет назад

      I also have watched Dave's Sherman video. His tank seems lighter than yours. But your tank is full metal, maybe you can install a more powerful engine

    • @JamesCookTinyTank428
      @JamesCookTinyTank428  8 лет назад +3

      +Fullway Shee The engine wasn't the problem with the slow turning, it was the hydraulic pumps we used. We tried using some cheaper belt driven pumps instead of the tandem direct drive pumps I normally use. We ended up replacing them with the hydrogear tandem pumps I used on the other tanks, because every time it would torque up to turn the belts would either slip or break. Also it was the first time the tank moved under it's own power so we weren't really pushing it too hard. If you look at some of the newer videos of the sherman she moves much better now.

    You should really try building some german prototype/paper tanks, the Maus or The VK.45.02 B (Its Predesesor) for example

      TinyTank428 blue prints on how to build one

    • @JamesCookTinyTank428
      @JamesCookTinyTank428  7 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately I have no blue prints never was much of a drafter. I used two 1/35 scale models one fully assembled and one left apart for measuring individual parts and pieces. I took measurements with a pair of calipers then multiplied the dimension by 17.5 to get my half scale measurements. So all I really have is the models and a bunch of scratch paper with numbers that wouldn't make sense to anyone but me.

    Just looks so under powered, and hydrolic drive so unrealistic. The most important factors are looks sounds and scale performance..
    If it cant be driven in a realistic manner then in my books its a dud. Sorry.
    Also with a steel shell construction, why make an inner frame. Just build it from the outside in. Keeping the weight down it can perform better.
