    I surf at Castlepoint fairly regularly. The Gap has the most refreshing water in New Zealand! It's like a dream...

    You guys walked past our house! in Castle Point; such a great location. If you go to the lagoon at night and shine your high beam into the water, you'll see fish jumping.

    So when are you crazy kids coming south? I’m a Dublin man, been here for 27 years and the South Island is the most amazing place I’ve ever been! Wellington is pretty cool too.

    if you are still in Wellington/Eastbourne you should take a bike ride out to Pencarrow Light house then continue on to Baring Head Light house
    drive as far around Eastbourne and you can, their is a little bike shack where you can hire bikes, grab a ebike for an easier riding experience and make sure you pick a nice day to go, pack a lunch and plenty of water

    • @GlenAndMado
      @GlenAndMado  9 месяцев назад

      We actually went to the bike shack before to walk the dogs and thought about to rent the bikes and visit the lighthouse but then completely forgot about it as we were busy with other things🙈

    Cool trip. As a kiwi, you must have tomato sauce when eating fish and chips. An additional treat is making chip sandwiches with fresh buttered bread.

    I stayed in one of those holiday homes…in the 1980s. It was okay there, although I wouldn’t bother writing home to my mum about the place! I was quite pleased to leave and go home to Wellington! Good to see the fishing boats still there. They are commercial and quite large.

    An epic day trip guys. Castle Rock looks a bit of a knee-shaker at the edge of those cliffs on top but the views are breathtaking. Fish and chips at the beach is so Kiwi on such a beautiful day. Cold now for 2 days with snow on the mountains then return to summer weather.

    I’ve been to the top of Castle Rock many times but I was getting the willys when you took the camera to the edge of the cliff! It is a stunning view and I’m glad it wasn’t windy. I’ve been up there on a windy day, and it gets REALLY scary. Castlepoint is known for high winds. On a bad day, walking down the beach is like visiting a sandblaster turned on full

    when we were kids. we used to climb the rock. but straight up, from the lagoon beach. nice to see a path and seat up there..lol..
    i tried to get to the cave a couple yrs back. but the mouth was guarded by a giant sleepy seal..lol.. so i ran away and so missed showing my kids the inside of it..

    Wonderful visit thank you Mado and Glen. You took me back 60 years and more.
    Our family used to holiday there every year, Fishing off the reef you visited, climbing the cable up to the lighthouse, doing my athletics training by running along the beach all the way to Whakataki (where the hotel/pub is) then back over the hill on the road into Castlepoint.
    Even explored the cave where Kupe chased the weke (octopus). Kupe had chased that weke all the way from Polynesia.
    We also surfed on the seaward entrance to the beach between the lighthouse and Castle Rock, known as the Gap Big party location in summer!
    Glad you enjoyed this very special pace

    I live in the general area of Wairarapa after being raised in Wellytown. Really miss the sea so going to Castlepoint is a treat. Named by Captain Cook and the Lagoon is called Deliverance Cove. You can park on the beach as the tide doesn't cover the sand. The boats are fishing boats propelled by Hamilton jet engines. On the first part of the beach there are horses races when there is enough sand. Some years if there are storms it's too rocky. the Clydesdale races are fantastic. They can motor! I believe the lighthouse was the last manned one in NZ and became automatic in the 1980's.

    Kia ora glen & mado hope all is well, now if theres any good to come out of a earthquake it can produce new lands with uplift👍👍 wellington, napier are prime examples 😍, but unfortunately the downside is they can also twist it shift it or worse take it away ...hehe😭😢, however what your mostly seeing around you at castle point if not the entire world is coastal erosion, rising sea levels sea surges and weather have definitely affected coastlines world wide, glad yous enjoyed the rugged beauty of castle point iv been there a couple times but checkout wharariki beach nelson near farewell spit its my pick of the bunch, you can both thank me later, cool video take care guys🇳🇿...

    The shells way up there are probably there from seagulls, they take various shellfish from the sea/slash water front and becuase they cannot break them open, go up high and drop them on rocks to break them open, then eat the flesh.

    A very dangerous place, people regularly lose their lives out there. Not from falling, but drowning while fishing lower down and being swept off the rocks by freak waves
    Also don’t keep fish you’re not going to eat. The carpet and spiney sharks should’ve been thrown back instead of left to die in that pool

    • @GlenAndMado
      @GlenAndMado  8 месяцев назад

      That's really sad to hear and we fully believe it as it felt definitely dangerous, especially if the weather is pretty bad! The guy mentioned that he will eat the shark I think!

  • @Riverwild01
    @Riverwild01 8 месяцев назад

    There is not a lot of fish in the ocean, we have had pods of dolphins and whales landing on our shores dying, we had seals travelling through our cities. The species are crying for help to stop fishing, it's very sad nobody listens to their cries.
