I live in Wellington have for 16 years, Wellington used to be a whole lot busier before Covid is really quiet now. The best Duck Island ice cream is White Chocolate Pomegranate and Macadamia flavor the Duck Island ice cream is sold in supermarkets too. 😊
That's good to know, we'll have to try that flavor!
You two are always excited when walking around Wellington. "But whatever ."
That's what I like about your videos. Just never gets boring. Thank you for putting a smile on my dial... Regards from South Africa 🇿🇦.
at 10.50 you said 'lovely building here.. that building is the largest wooden building in southern hemisphere.
Your videography is just KICKIN! Thanks!
0:50 if you're still in the Wellington region you got to come to Owhiro bay & see the eels and the seals 🦭& community gardens & much more!
Rain or Shine, Wellington is always fun. Bye the way I have stocked up on tissues for your final NZ screening. Great video as per usual
YOU GOT that correct Richard! Definitely a great city to live in :) I know its going to be heartbreaking making our final episode to finish up this series aswell :( still need to make our question and answer video! and a recap of our trip!
The first building you thought was Parliament is the Court buildings. Also the big wooden building is the Law Faculty for Victoria University( Wellington Uni). The actual Uni is up in Kelburn. I don't know if you went up on the Cable Car, but halfway up you would've seen the main old brick building of Victoria Uni. The Railway Station is Art Deco built in 1932, I think.
I definitely know what the Bundestag is. I hope to go to Germany in 5 years time to see where my family came from.
As a kid I used to take the red diesal bus up Cuba Street to the Zoo. Cost sixpence!
Love the content team 👌
I am kicking myself as I walked right past you in Cuba Mall!!!! Mado, I have never tried the pizza or the ice cream-but promise that I will. Both of you are great ambassadors. Question Time between 2-3pm at Parliament can be very "entertaining
Hey Glen “ n “ Mado there is no path or distance that is difficult to get a cup of coffee those sceneries absolutely awesome have been following your travels continuously 👍👍
Mado was getting hangry lol we've all been there 🤣🤣 And well done, my fav Vietnamese eatery in Welly 😋
She knows what shes doing lol
@@GlenAndMado 🤣🤣🤣
Mado being cheeky with glenobird is her sweet spot for entertainment, funny 😁
Across the corner from Pomodoro is craft beer bar called Goldings. You can order a Pomodoro Pizza at the bar and they'll deliver it to your table.
I worked in Welly a lifetime ago and worked with one on the 2 Massimo's who opened this Pizzeria, Massimo T well done on still being the best pizza in Wellington for 24 years. Cheers Richard.
Dunedin had 'street art' *way* before Christchurch or Wellington. As always, we get left out, but we are a small city 😓 Te Papa is the best. I lived in Wellington when they moved the whole Museum Hotel (wasn't called that then!) across the road to make room to build Te Papa - I think there were about 20 massive trucks involved, all perfectly synchronised. It was incredible to watch - never seen anything like it! ❤
I wouldn’t say way before Wellington. They have always had street art around being the cultural and arts capital of NZ
Not sure if u noticed the hand on top of building! City art gallery 😆✌
For the parliament tours, if you go on the 3pm tour on the days where the Prime Minister is giving his press conferences to the Press Gallery after cabinet meetings (not sure what days those are) at 4pm, you can generally get to meet him as he has to go through the reception area to get to the press conference room and he stops to talk to people on tours.
I think if you asked Kiwis what their capital is, at least 90% would say Wellington, but I totally agree that most Kiwis wouldn't know Canberra is the capital of Australia (it is a pretty random place, with nothing much going on but parliament, but I believe that was because every state wanted the capital there, and no-one could agree, so they created a new town 😂). So glad NZ said "thanks, but no thanks" to becoming a state of Australia, back in the day!
Also, Russell was the first capital of NZ, and Dunedin also was the capital before Auckland got anywhere near it. Wellington works perfectly as our capital because it's right in the middle of the country (and it's a bloody brilliant and beautiful city - love it there!) ❤
Nostalgia my old hometown in the 80s-90s. Another excellent video Glen and Mado! Mauri Ora ❤
True yeah. But the challenged .can be well overcome. These us true. Pow! Bang! The government ministers sing their powerful songs. Bring me my derring the catty carries far. Throw a fruit.
So good. Miss you guys!
Mado saying:little walk wil do you good glen, that was funny😂😂😂😂
Good blog again. I've been to the parliament which was a great experience. Wellington is where i was born and raised. Also been to the Bundestag. When i wanted directions i asked a local where the Reichstag was? Many times I'd hitch-hiked home to Porirua from at the side of the station after the last train. Very dangerous as you were usually given a lift by a guy who was twice as drunk as you.
Really means alot for your kind words :) keeps us motivated to make more videos! love the story though, pretty funny all the same but noting to worry about in new zealand! most will be nice to give you a lift without any issues even if there drunk 😂😂
A museum must-see for Mado. If you're in the Taranaki area near Hawera time is well spent by visiting the Tawhiti Museum. It's a small, privately-owned museum and the work of an enthusiast and has such cool things inside. Lots of displays of NZ life in settler days and miniature dioramas depicting Maori life in the pa, the Maori land wars plus the early whaling days. There's a gift shop at the entrance, the little steam train might be running - depends on various factors - and last time we visited there was a nice little cafe called Mr Badger's. It would be a shame to leave the country without seeing it but you'll have to be quick and check the website for opening days and hours as they're about to switch over to winter hours at the end of May. Maybe give them a call. In my opinion it's right up there with the best museums in the country.
When I go to the CBD, I usually drive up Mt Vic until the coupon parking ends. It's a little bit of a walk, but it's better than paying for parking.
Oh no im sad for you about Molly's!!! That place was epic its been closed for a while
Hello Glen and Mado! Glad to meet you at MNL PH! You guys are awesomazing! How long you been vlogging?
Jerald here by the way the one you meet in BGC.
Victoria University is not a centralised campus. It has different departments scattered all around Wellington.
we didn't know, thanks for letting us know. we basically just found out about the university while filming the video :)
Great vlog as always guys.
Antipodean Capitals ! :)
Both New Zealand & Australia, you could ask a cross selection of people walking the street anywhere,
"What's the Capital City of Australia ?"
How many say Sydney ( not Canberra) ?
Where it used to be Melbourne ! :)
Many would say Auckland for New Zealand, not Wellington.
Back in the day, it WAS Auckland ! 🙉 🐦
Cool mates, so cool
It's hot stuff.
Three of my favourite things. Ireland, Germany and Wellington. Spoken as a Kiwi.
wow really??? hahah there has to be a reason why you have made that choice 😭😂
Going to miss your N.Z videos.
no the parking used to be great until recently they are removing our parking more and more all the time.
It is having good vibes.
Wellington is lovely....
Tip Top ice cream is the best.
wow compared to the U.S it appears incredibly organized and super clean
Sitting here, in wellington, in August, watching you eat ice cream, just ain't making me warm.
VERY AMAZING YOU BOTH AND WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT SUICIDE RATE IN OUR NZ NEEDS SOMEONE JUST LIKE YOU TO BE THIER FOR PEOPLE .OH YOUR BOTH REALLY AMAZING LUCK OF THE IRISH YOU BOTH ARE AMAZING .ME IVE GOT IRISH AND GERMAN ACESTRY. THANKYI
OUTH TJ HOOKER THANKYOU BOTH
Hey just a heads up that what you thought of as the university is not at all! the actual campus of both Massey and Victoria universeity are in Kelburn and Mt Cook. What youre seeing is an extended resource of it. I cant tell you what the building is. I can tell you its definitly not the university campus
Remember, if you order a large flat white, make sure it has more shots of actual coffee and not just extra milk, otherwise it's not a flat white, it's a latte!
Aha never ever got a flat white before, always a black coffee no sugar! 😂 mado just gets matcha always usually
first settlers arrived in Wellington .Petone in 1840 1841
Hello from Timaru 😊 where is Mado from? I can tell what country Glen comes from haha that lovely accent ❤
Germany I think
I use to live in wellington for 10 year and now im in Melbourne Australia and it isgood to see not much changed
Like molly Malones and reading buildings are still there
I agree about icecream cones haha
Wellington looks better then any city here in Ireland, bigger buildings too 😂
The council are trying to discourage anyone from coming into the city unless on a bike or bus . So parents with young families, contractors, people who cannot use public transport because it isn’t convenient or exist in there area are basically not welcome . Stay in your suburb and go to your local mall.
As a Wellingtonian I agree that the Council doesn't want cars in town. Unfortunately, public transport isn't cost-effective, reliable, or frequent enough to utilise.
Wellington is still the best, despite its problems.
Most people know what the Bundestag is I would think
beutyfull city
Now i know bundestag is parliament if it comes up in a quiz 😊
Anyone not familiar with pleasant weather will find the quirks of Wellington enjoyable.
Hi team, you looked more comfortable walking around our scenic tracks than Wellington City.
Be careful and take care
hahha we still had a wonderful time exploring welly again. I mean of course its more comfortable walking on a track 😉 nobody around, less confidence needed to make a video and also all them endorphins from hiking haha 😆
you should go to a Hurricanes rugby match possibly the most entertaining Rugby team in the world it doesnt matter you dont know tje rules
Oh yeah zabbadak!
Glen, you're too polite saying hi to almost everyone who walks by, you're definitely ole school
The Truth about Wellington ,it's windy as hell & cold i lived there for 5 years in the mid 80's but was real easy to get a job well back then it was the people were great & pay rate was good too a lot of money to be made there back them days ,good hard workers were rewarded i was from the coast & had been a bushman so i did tree felling & limbing on the weekends for extra cash all the hard jobs local tree guys didn't want or couldnt do or wanted a fortune for the job i even did jobs for DOC & they & people loved me & my prices & firewood was so easy to sell i made a killing from it ,but real estate & rentals were crazy prices but i made enough in 5 years to buy a house & land back down the coast .So any budding entrepreneurs out there i recommend for that .
Mado; you get addicted to 'hot/spicy' food, and it actually stimulates your taste buds, so you can't say 'you can't taste anything for the heat'
Wellington, a great place to visit, a gale strewn place in which to live. Don't ever live here! I'd leave tomorrow if I could.
Come and see australia I think you like it
awh we just were there for a week :) will be back in September for 9 months or so! :)
Wellington has had a succession of very poor city councilors/mayors. They are deliberately making it less car friendly as they think people should cycle and use public transport. A vocal minority support this, whereas the rest suffer as parking is removed and replaced with underused cycle ways. The public transport is not cheap and regular enough to compensate for this.
The current one is probably drunk right now
Bloody cycle ways…lucky I live in Porirua
Go woke go broke, well done Wellington
Yes but look they are having big rugby . It's power guys growling can be heard. The terrain is terrific. Pow! Mate. Can it always win it can so strong. Bang. Pow!
In South Island you will see a lot of the old Round-ball rugby.
Wow. It entrances you.
I really appreciate the cycleways and the public transport, and it’s helping reduce emissions, which is ultimately saving us all.
I like Wellington although i find it to big and to many people. Although this is coming from someone who has spent most of there life in small south island towns. I just find the people in Wellington to not be very friendly or helpful
If you find people in Wellington not friendly wait until you visit Auckland..
So glad i grew up in Wellington in the 90s and 2000s before liquor laws/fun police/leftie governments ruined this amazing city
If you say in your next one that Christchurch is your favourite city, I think I'll vomit 😂🙄
Parliament is just a bunch of adults acting like there in kindergarten in New Zealand unfortunately
Aussie pollies worse! See J Lambie, Albo, 🤦♂️🤮🤡
You having to wait and watch him eat, when youe hungry too. Don't have kids with him, he's unable to be selfless in pressure.
What ever you say about Wellington
That’s your opinion
People from overseas what dummy’s they are
Cheers have a great day
