I completed HS in Xavier University in the late 60's. Been in the States for more than 25 years. Wow, I can't believe you can live nicely for just $1,000/month. Thank you for your information. I plan to retire in the Philippines but my wife ( a Filipina) can't stand the heat there (she grew up in Manila) but trying to convince her, the heat in the province is tolerable.

Lucban, Quezon is also a cheap, cool almost daily throughout the year, beautiful, quaint, quiet, peaceful and friendly town at the foot of Mount Banahaw and near a bustling city, Lucena. The water flowing out of the mountain's many springs is the freshest and cleanest I've ever seen and tasted. The people are mostly pious Catholics and very welcoming, quite fluent in English, and love to cook for their guests at all times. Fresh fruits and vegetables abound - what a wealth of choices really. I hope you can feature it in your vast cache of profiles in the future before you leave the country - you're one of the most influential vloggers many retirees can trust.

Great video, but what about the beaches? You’re in a coastal city. Would have loved to hear about beach access (doesn’t exist in Cebu City) as well as if the beaches are rocky as in Dumaguete or white and sandy as in Boracay. Also… public access. Do you pay for a day pass at a resort in order to get beach access as you must do on Mactan Island across from Cebu City? Maybe in your next video.

Whaat 1000 dollars, that is more than I get in my retirentment pension in Norway. It just got more impossible for me to be an expat in Philippines. Now that this inflation is also eating up all the benefits. And many food types has gone up 50% last year here in Norway. Like food oil , canned fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, electricity bills are record high. But for a millionaire in Norway or other countries it is beneficial.

The minimum daily salary for people in Cagayan de Oro is around 400 pesos I think. That's just less than $10. And there are lot more who doesn't earn that much. There will be few locals who earn more that $10 but still not that much. Maybe a regular office worker might earn 15 to 25k pesos per month. That's around $500. That's why your American dollar goes a long way living in the Philippines. But if you choose to stay on those really high end resorts then expect to pay $$

    Any suggestions?

I keep my money in US banks. If I were opening a bank in the Philippines, I would just do a little research on where the most ATMS are. Since you are not putting a bundh of money in there, a bank run or collapse won't matter much.

Just google medical insurance for long term travelers. I don't buy it though. I just pay for care as I go. The monthly premiums in the USA are more than a week in the hospital in many places in the world. So I just pay as I go and spend less than 1000 per year all in. Even if I got something like cancer .. some of the top rated cancer hospitals in the world are in places that costs less than just the premiums in the USA. Don't believe the hype ... or just buy insurance .. whatever suits you best. I pay as I go. Plus, once you are 65, you have medicare in the USA and you can decide to fly back. I am in the Philippines at a resort today run by an American that is 82. He flys back whenever he needs back surgery.

Do you know where to find and how much it would cost to ship my new 2019 Jeep Wrangler to the Philippines in the Cagayan de Oro area ?
Would you recommend doing so if you were a Jeep fan so much that you really did not want to drive any another vehicle ?
Can Americans legally drive in the Philippines ?
Is it necessary to obtain a longterm Philippine driver's license if relocating there ?
Thank you in advance for any info you can provide in your answers by anyone who replies. I know it is more than DOUBLE the price to purchase a new Jeep Wrangler in the Philippines and as for me... $80,000.us is jussssst a little bit too high to pay. lol😭😂🤣

I am filipino and I live in Cagayan. I will try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.
Q: How much would it cost to to export your car here in the Philippines?
A: I don't know but, I have found results with a simple search on the internet.
Q: Would I recommend having your Wrangler here in the Philippines?
A: Yes, if you are staying for long term and not to mention brand new cars are more expensive in the Philippines than in the USA. Your Jeep Wrangler would cost 30-60% more with taxes and markup here. I could be wrong with other cars but, a good example I have is the Mazda Miata, the miata cost 30k in the U.S meanwhile here in the Philippines it cost 40k USD.
Q: Can you drive here with U.S.A. driver's license?
A: Yes, I heard you only have up to 90 days and after that you have to get the local driving license but, it is always best to ask local officers here.
Q: Do you have to get the Philippines driver's license?
A: I think it is obvious from the above answer.
Now is a good timing to invest in commercial/residential real estate. The city's economy is booming it is rated number 1 in 2013 as the most competitive city in the Philippines and the city has been consistent to be top 10 in the record.
3 Forbes 500 billionaires are investing in the downtown area with high rise buildings.
Cagayan de Oro is the gateway to Mindanao. Most well known companies always choose Cagayan as the first location in opening business here in Mindanao. Volkswagen, Starbucks, biggest mall in terms of land area in Mindanao is Limketkai Center, S&R (costco equivalent) etc.

@@thestud1881 I would say only a quarter, not "most" people in CdeO could live comfortably with $100 per month, average residential rent is already $300, you could find lower than that but don't expect a nice place plus water and electric bills. Not to mention during this pandemic, public transport fees have increased because vehicles takes less passenger and they have to pay for those vacant seat for health safety reasons.

You consistently miss details of returning to a country. When you get there, details of money, public restrooms, internal traveling restrooms. Can you tell I may want to poop? How far is the nearest restroom? How do you find one?
When you say mountains? How high? Snakes? Nasty bugs? Death by cute bug? Snake? Keeping an animal, dog, cat, bringing animal into a country? Interview an expat on these if you don’t have personal knowledge.
