Metal Guru was that before all the building started? A place I had an eye on to visit, then all I hear is a lot of negative things about it with all the buildings the Chinese are putting up.

@@keithy507 Yes. It was 8 years ago when I lived there. That was before the massive boom and influx of Chinese. Ironically, now many of the Chinese are moving out of SV because the government is shutting many of their casinos down.

Metal Guru very nice. It looked a lovely place to sit about and relax, especially that part right down at the beach which had those big comfy looking seats and numerous places to eat and drink. That’s what really appealed to me about the place. I couldn’t believe how it got taken over and basically demolished. With so many casinos, I can’t see them all getting many people inside to make a lot of money!? (I could be wrong) So much poverty around the place and then all the rich “throwing their money around!” It doesn’t seem right! But I guess that’s the way of the world.

I love Kep! This place still didn't ruin by the tourists yet, all you see is the locals with the big smile! This place is pretty laid back, sailing club is the ultimate sunset spot. If you go during the week (Monday - Thursday) happy hour. Good martini (USD3), try the kampot cider (7.5%acl) too!

True. I hadn't really thought many people would be interested in retiring in Cambodia. But then I read online that it is on people's radar. Plus Qiang Hui hadn't been there yet. Vagabond Awake Hi Dan. I believe many people would prefer Thailand as their first choice to retire in SE Asia, but with the baht so strong etc, it’s making others (especially those on a budget) consider the surrounding countries. I’ve been to Thailand several times in the past but not in the last 10 years (but will return again soon. Also Laos, Singapore and Malaysia. Wanting to go to Cambodia and Vietnam also next. It’s nice to hear what one could maybe retire on over there. Happy new year!

In most cases don’t buy only rent. I’ve lived in the philippines for twelve years so I’ve owned multiple houses and it has worked out for me.

Actually, I have made most of my retirement nest egg in real estate. I have been investing in it since the 70s. My advice is to invest in your own backyard where you know the law, customs, and market. I am sure someone is going to explain how they have made billions investing in foreign soil, but I doubt that is safe for the average person, But thanks for the constructive criticism.
